25% off Powerlift 2.0 limited edition shoes if you use the code 'FRIENDS' on www.adidasspecialtysports.ie. Works out at €67/68. Code only good until midnight.

Just saw there's 30% off the Powerlift 2s so they're 63 and a better selection of sizes than there was recently

    2 question about snatch grip deadlifts;

Should I be doing them from a snatch-like upright start postion. Or just whatever hip angle feels strongest as in a regular deadlift?

Straps to focus on the target muscles, or no straps to build grip?
I usually warm up double overhand and switch to mixed grip for last warm up and work set. Grip isn't a limiting factor with deadlifts, but it probably will be with snatch grip

You could just hookgrip?? Although I always use straps for them since they're an accessory
Whats the goal with them, to deadlift more or to snatch more? if its to snatch more then you should try to emulate your snatch pull as much as possible, keeping the hips down, lats tight and back, shoulder over the bar and pulled into the hip crease with you still over it.

If its for deadlifts i dont know since I cant actually really do normal deadlifts :P

My grip is relatively okay but i always use straps for these as i cant do any sort of heavy rep work on these without my grip failing. I usually set up like a standard deadlift rather than like a snatch but with hips pushed further back to keep my back flatter.

I'm doing them as a deadlift variation for a few weeks. Goal is to get stronger. Stronger deadlift, stronger snatch, I'll take both if they're on offer.

I'll be lifting more than I'm even close to snatching so might just use the straps.

It's a deadlift variation so go with straps and do something else for grip if you want.

Otherwise you just end up with some grip work and little benefit for your deadlift

That's what my initial thoughts where too.
And it's more so that the grip smashes the side of my hand than anything.

Farmers Carrys again for grip I reckon.

Holding bumpers in your fingers is a good one I did a spell of doing for grip. Different grip work to farmers walks obviously but just wanted to change focus.

Maybe it's an age thing or maybe I never noticed before but my joints are cracking and popping more since I started taking the gym seriously in the past year.

Last night I was foam rolling my back as it felt tight and the loudest pop ever from my shoulder blade area. My ankles crack on a daily basis every morning when I get up and hips pop from time to time.

I'd actually be relieved at this stage if it's just age.

There was a poster on here who was concerned at the sound his knees made when squatting, despite not feeling any pain. Physio pretty much said that he could ignore the noise if it didn't hurt. He even linked a squat video and the knee cracking was really audible.

Ahhhhhh that's horrifying! I find it very hard to believe that's not doing damage. Like, I won't argue with a physio but what on earth could be grinding that badly without causing harm.

I actually get a very similar noise in my knees.

Not anywhere near as loud as his appears to be, but I can hear it. I get it in my left knee on the way up from a squat, and the right knee on the way down (but i dont just mean squatting, i mean day-to-day life whenever my knees do those positions.. kneeling for example).

I mentioned it to my GP and he felt the knee area, etc. but said, as above, if there's no pain there's nothing to worry about. He reckons it's swelling or wearing away of the thingymajiggy that separates the bones. He reckons it'll never get better but that it's not a sign of anything being terribly wrong either, so just try to ignore it (but if it becomes painful, go back to him).

Yeah, I've done that in the past. Good way to train "pinch" grip strength.
Farmers carrys (and hanging off a bar) is good for "support" strength.
And hand grippers/crushers train the third type.

I've decent grip strength, but wouldn't mind it if was better.

Fulfil protein bars have launched 4 new flavours and have opened a pop up cafe on South William Street this weekend to promote them.

I'm a fiend for white chocolate so the white choc and cookie dough flavour intrigues me greatly.

I shall sample tomorrow and report back. :D

Saw that alright. A pop-up protein bar shop. The world has gone mad  Tried the purple one (caramel cookie dough or something) and found it like a poorer version of a caramel carb killa. I don't get what people find so great about them compared to other protein bars tbh.

Personally I would put the whole carb killa range and the robert irvine fit elite bars way above them with similar macros. Maybe it's the marketing and #fitfam buy-in.

I think it's cause before when there wasn't much protein bar selection they where way above the par. Now the market is fairly saturated and they're all decent enough.

Tried out both the caramel chocolate cookie dough and the white chocolate cookie dough. White chocolate one is yummy. I had it in frozen yoghurt, but I can imagine it going down very well with a cup of tea. The caramel one was fine, but I'm not a huge caramel person anyway so maybe I'm not the best judge of it.

Talking of protein bars, Elvery's in Dundalk were selling Quest bars for €1.75 today. I'm going to assume that they are on sale in elvery store of theirs but I can't say for certain. Nice bargain considering the usual price.

Make a batch! Takes 5 mins and taste delish. Guessing they're less that 15 - 20 cent each
