This wasn't today- do I still get to write about it? Just reminded of it by NamelessPhil's excellent story.

I was at a friend's house with the labrador, had introduced the dog to her cats, all was going peaceably. They were all lying quite happily in the garden together. Once the dog's introduced she'll do her best to make friends and is pretty trustworthy. If she's not introduced, it's an entirely different story.

There's a local cat that bullies all the other cats, will try and get into houses, has injured other cats and is generally the terror of the neighbourhod. A vicious little thug in feline form- even by cat standards. He appeared up and started quietly sneaking up on my friend's little cat who was sunning herself quietly under a bush.

From behind her rises the large dog. The dog makes a run at the newcomer, who is suddenly rapidly re-assessing the odds here. You can see it in his face before he runs- that "Oh, I made a mistake..."

My friend's cat doesn't even budge as they fly past her. Never seen a more smug cat. "Ah, I see you've met my new friend."

Edit: Aonb- you can get collars that break open at a certain amount of pressure, or ones that have a stretchy section. Neither is fail-safe but they're safer than ordinary collars. You can get them in tesco.

I rescued a kitten who was abandoned at the side of a road last year, only about 4-5 weeks old at the time. I worried about bringing her home to my big dog who is a little spoiled and loves attention.. but they get on well :) The kitten snuggles into him and sometimes licks his face. She even climbs on top on him and goes to sleep until he rolls over for attention and she falls off. Very cute :)

I can't remember whether I posted this before, but I think about it every so often and it makes me grin. :D

I have a small flock of chickens who I let roam freely around the garden when I'm there. One day they were out having a wander and my cat Freddie decided to go and have a snoop around in their run. The chickens saw what he was up to, gathered together and made their way back into their run. They pretty much cornered him and the boldest hen stepped forward and started flapping her wings at him. My jaw was literally hanging open watching this!

Poor Freddie scuttled off giving them as wide a berth as possible. He hasn't gone in there since and now checks the garden carefully before crossing their patch.

I was absolutely shattered last night and fell asleep on the couch. I woke up this morning to find my African Grey Charlie had got hold of my phone and picked off all the buttons (think old school nokia phone :o). Now I can't make or receive calls. It's the second phone he's ruined and I don't know whether to laugh or cry. He's such a cheeky bugger though and it's hard to get mad at him. He's like a bold little boy who gets at everything he shouldn't :pac:

My cute Collie-x Theo does the same with my earphones. He got to my bose over-ears before.. Just laughed at the whole thing. :D :pac: :pac:

Ghost is a husky/retriever cross, just turned 1. He thinks that the washing line is just where I hang his toys up, he will race me to the line when I go out with washing, and bounce around, waiting for me to hang it up, then pull it all off and run around with it. I decided to try new tactics a couple of weeks ago, and shut him in the house while I hung it up. So far, after 6 attempts of this new method, it appears to be working - if he doesn't see it being hung up, it isn't there. Just as well he's cute!

My cat was in the dogs bed in front of the stove tonight, having a good wash.(While the poor dogs have to sleep on the floor - she kicks them out!)

Suddenly she went berserk - I ran to see what the heck - her TONGUE had got tangled in some of the fur on her chest :eek::eek::eek::eek: Cats have these kinda bony ridges at the back of their tongues, Ive read, she must have gotten snagged on a bit of matted fur!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was quite dazed after I'd 'freed' her... wierd!

Yep, their tongues are like carding brushes, which is something you'll discover for yourself as soon as Tux one day decides to wake you up by licking your eyelids... :D

I had been doing some gardening at the weekend and bought a Buddha statue for our patio. I noticed my 7 month old puppy through the window, she was outside wagging her tail, wiggling and greeting the Buddha and licking its face as she does when she sees a human she loves. She literally circled it about 20 times all excited then napped with her head on his feet. She's been doing the same thing every time she's seen it since. I'm convinced she thinks it's a real baby or something. Either that or they are actually communicating :/

Either way, it makes me smile every time I see it :)

My cat Gizmo was lying fast asleep on a stool today. He woke up and did a huge stretch and fell right off the edge. Didn't even have time to roll his body to land on his feet, he just went plop right onto the floor. Then he gets up and strolls off nonchalantly as if it never happened while I'm still burst a gut laughing at him!

My boyfriend is working late and the cats are missing him. They jumped up on the bed and stared at his side for ages. Pepper even started to hit the bed to see if he was under the covers ha!

They're all cuddled up asleep now, I don't want to wake them to put them to bed!

My little pet hen is broody and has been sitting on her eggs for the past three days... and her 'husband' sits right beside her to keep her company and to keep guard. :o:) To see the two of them so concerned for one another makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.... :o

I've seen a human, foal, calf, lamb and puppy born but I'd love to see an egg hatch.

We bought the cats one of those balls you can put treats inside.
    https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/kolpakov/orangeslimcat._V398607070_.jpg

Henry dismantled it in the first 4 hours.

We glued it back together. Henry is all over it, knows how to get all the dreamies.
Swanson just follows him around. He doesn't know how the ball works but knows ball = dreamies and that Henry is some kind of mad dreamie wizard.

My kitten Fluffy (well she's 8 months old so maybe teenage cat) is so sweet. I can't sleep and I'm a bit teary because I've been really ill with a vomiting bug and now a bad headache. She's just come over to me, headbutted me and then went to lie on my tummy. She must have heard it gurgling because she got up and is now sprawled over my legs. She's calmed me down nearly straight away.

The nice thing is that Fluffy never sleeps on us, she'll come for a quick cuddle and then go sleep at our feet. What a sweetie pie she is tonight <3

Poor Pepper and Luna had to be shut outside the room because all they want to do is play very noisily.

Not 5 minutes after I posted the above, Fluffy got up, walked on my head and then stuck her bum in my face. Charming!!

When I walk my little one in the morning before work, there is a set route we take. "Mom" was running late this morning so I had to cut the walk short a little. Normally if I try this she'll stick her little bum to the ground and wont budge (which in itself makes me laugh, and I am guilty of pretending to cut the walk short just to see her doing it and then saying ah sure we'll keep going then :D - terrible pet parenting I know!). She loves going up the road to "see the sheep" (this is our "walkies" code) and I'll say to her when we come across them "look at the sheep, oh my god, look over there quick!" and she stands watching them for ages. This morning when I needed to turn back I said to her "oh my god there are sheep over there, look!" and led her around in a semi circle. She was ploughing "on ahead" (which was now back the way we came) and was too busy looking for the sheep to notice we had turned back :P Then when the sheep didn't appear she started looking at me out of the corner of her eye with this "Ive been fooled" expression on her face and by the time we got home she was in a right sulk. Problem is, a Jack Russell never forgets so that trick will only work the one time.

Don't I know it. She has me wrapped around her um....dew claw :) She definitely knows how to push my buttons and I'm a sucker. She's so bold sometimes but I just cant do angry with her. I'll try, like if she chases one of the cats or rolls in the cow shít I'll tell her she's going to the bath but sure she doesn't believe me anyway :P

Willow cat is great for smiles, yesterday I got my long hair cut up short, Willow has never shown any interest in grooming a human before but the new haircut caught her attention for some reason, planted both paws on my head and proceeded to groom the 'do'... Didn't do much for keeping the salon look, but didn't have the heart to stop her 😂

Following up on this, earlier this afternoon you could clearly hear the chicks peep-peeping very loudly - they're still in their eggshells!!  :pac: I think they'll hatch tonight, I can't wait... :o ... and neither can their dad, he's watching them all like a hawk (excuse the pun), he's very solicitous towards his little family, making caring/concerned sounds and standing guard beside them. They're wonderful. :)

Waiting for one more - you can hear it tap-tap-tapping gently through the shell. Can't wait! I'm only hoping they're not all male, or we'll be in trouble...

    They're adorable :D

What are you gonna do with the males if there are any New Home? I know you won't be doing what everyone else seems to do...but I'm not sure how well males get on together :/

Males are fine together provided the are brought up together and stay together ALL the time. Spit them up even for 24hours and they'll start fighting.

That's very good to know, My3Cents, thanks for that. :)

I'll do what My3Cents suggested, if they do end up fighting for the one and only hen, I'll either have to get them a wife each ('7 wives for 7 brothers' minus 4, kind of a thing :D), even though that could be more than I can manage, or I'll have to build individual accommodation for them and let them out to roam one at a time... I don't think they'd like it, though, they're sociable animals, aren't they? I'm praying there'll be more girls than boys, though. My great-aunt, who gave me the original couple and who kept lots of them, used to let them roam free around the field, and at night time they used to perch all the way up a tree, each couple beside the next one - it was great to see. :o:)

If this is cockerels- we had brothers, raised together, together all the time, and at a certain age one of them remained calm and the other one started attacking it quite a lot.
