98.4 90s Network - I think they added some Orban into their chain earlier in the year.

Is the one on 99.3 a new pirate or has the mainly weekend relay station (of Energy Power AM) that was on 99.5 moved back to 99.3, where it was previously? Sometimes there seems to be tests done on the relay frequency.

92.0 is occupied by Retro FM which is rarely if ever on of a Friday. I think Club FM, which was on 107.1, has stopped FM broadcasts.

The Unid Dance station does not appear to have been on 105.2 on this occasion - it was on yesterday apparently. That would have been some mess had it been on as well!

Iúr FM in Newry very strong this last few days 101.4 compared to previous. I'd say being picked up anywhere Mt. Leinster is sheltered

If it's the same station, then a move to 99.3 makes sense because I expect that Christmas FM will be on 99.5 in a few weeks (Bray?).

It’s quite literally a pop picking relay of Charity FM.

No sign of Energy AM today. Storm damage perhaps?

Just as an aside, why did satellite radio in your car take off in the USA and not in Europe?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭JDxtra

Charity Radio on 88.1 and 94.3 this afternoon.

100 million + installations with >60% of new cars having satellite radio.
However SiriusXM is a subscription service with 20 million subscribers despite having eg Howard Stern
The services have struggled financially however and with investment in billions required a service in Europe was never a runner - iirc the Japanese service went into liquidation.

Who is using 88.1 now? That's interesting.

It was on for me this afternoon, relaying Charity Radio on 1395 kh as per the other frequencies.

That's an impressive number of places. Taking into account adjacent areas to allotted frequencies as well, this means it will be almost nationwide on FM this year.

Snap, we must have both been watching bai.ie ;)

Some of these coverage areas are a bit misleading. The Donegal outlet on 105.7 is a NE Donegal outlet, whereas the Clare outlet on 105.2 from Ben Dash actually covers a large swathe of Kerry & Limerick. The Kerry 105.0 outlet really only covers Tralee/Killarney/Mid Kerry

I presume they’ll want to avoid having presenters coming to studio where possible, so it’ll be interesting how they manage it this year. Maybe a combination of limited on site presenters, voice tracking and some home studios?

Apart from the obvious 105.2 FM frequency, Dublin pirates, or those that can be picked up in Dublin like RetroNow, should stay away from frequencies in adjacent areas, especially 88.1 and 99.5.

Absolutely. It's not worth the risk going anywhere near those frequencies. Some stations in the past had to get a friendly reminder.

Speaking of 88.1 specifically, has anyone any idea who was relaying Charity Radio on it last Saturday? It has not been one of the usual frequencies (usual suspects!) this year, anyway, for joint relays or joint broadcasts.

Came across a blank carrier on 107.1 for a few minutes this evening on the M50, It stopped at Lucan but faded very quickly.

    87.6 Chill FM (Blank carrier)
    91.0 Hot FM
    93.2 Extreme
    103.0 Energy
    104.2 Storm NE
    105.2 Retro Now

On my travels today I came across St. Ita’s hospital radio on 89.5, who looks after this station now? I wasn’t far from Donabate/Portrane but the signal wasn’t great, I remember it being better, plus there was no RDS it had before, The left channel was higher than the right and at the time of listening there was a recorded show from June. To me it sounded like the station was just let go to waste which is a pity because it was a good station at one stage.

elsewhere in Co. Kerry, Killorglin Parish church radio has been broadcasting mass to that town on 105.0 for the past while, probably will have to move...?

Most definitely. The 105.0 outlet from Knockmoyle would romp into Killorglin.

Plenty of free frequencies around there though. Apart from 105.0 and 105.7 the entire 105-107 is free in that area

Did a bandscan this morning. Energy AM were on sounding good. Seemed all local FM pirates were off but a good few UK stations coming in. Didn’t get to check this afternoon. Anybody do a scan?

I found largely the same earlier today except that I picked up Extreme on 93.2. Since yesterday, I have noticed UK stations coming in on 94.3 FM and 99.5 FM and also today on 92.0 FM. The Beach were on 105.7 yesterday, but I could not pick them up today - this was near St. Enda's Park, Rathfarnham, so might not have picked it up anyway, as they are more south-east oriented.

This is what I heard over last day or two...

    87.6 - Chill FM
    91.0 - Hot FM
91.6 - Phever (for a time on Fri. evening)
    93.2 - Extreme FM
    104.2 - Storm NE
    105.2 - RetroNow

Hot and Extreme are on 24/7.
