Can someone add my time please. 3:43:35. Had a ball the whole way round. Took good advice and soaked up the atmosphere. Probably wasted ten minutes high fiving kids and generally acting the clown with the crowd who were amazing, I'm hooked!!

3:39:05... Enjoyed the first 18, ran well, 3:24 was on the cards. 5th Gel made me throw up at 19... went rapidly down hill thereafter, last 5 horrendous! Shattered crossing the line. Looking back overall brill day tho.

3:54:40 Was on track up to 30km then slowly lost the pace and the last 10k were like hell while in 2009 I had a smile on my face all way long.I think I paid for a week of stress before the race, too scared to get sick like last year,as a result couldn't eat as much carb as I wanted as I didn't have appetite! ANyway, one thing and I will always remember is the crowds, they really carried me to the finish line and thanks to those amazing people I still got a PB :) Just thought to myself, If I don't run it in 2014 I will for sure be on the side of the road!

1st of November => time to kick you guys out of this thread* :P

One of you needs to bite the bullet and start your own thread similar to 2012 and 2013 Word on the street is that Blockic is all ready to give ye a helping hand as you all continue on your running journey. It's important to build on what you've achieved in Dublin and the best way to do that is to keep running. Consistency is the buzz word for success ;)

Congratulations to all of you on the fantastic performances in Dublin. I know some of you were disappointed but try not to be too downcast. Even if you didn't get the time/performance that you dreamed about you still have every reason to be proud after all the training you did and you can use that as a foundation for further success.

I've really enjoyed being your mentor and it was a privilege for me to share this amazing journey with you. I had to laugh at the large number of people who seem to think I'm a patient understanding person - the reality couldn't be further from the truth :D But I guess that means it's been good for me too. I'm looking forward to following your success in the next thread!

*You can finish filling in the table though :D

Well done everyone, and thanks to everyone on this thread for help and advice along the way.

Well, I learned some lessons the hard way too! Was aiming for 3.45; finished in 3.54.

Mistakes: The big one: I didn't adjust my expectations to take into account the training I missed with a sprained ankle, so went out too fast. Had two mental wobbles - one when a bit of water table barging meant I turned by bad ankle and spent a mile or two thinking of nothing else, the second when I got to about mile 17 (near my office) and got weirdly upset that I didn't get more of a boost from familiar territory. Came back from both (thanks to all the advice before that I'd have ups & downs) and felt pretty good then till Merrion Road. From Merrion Road onwards was a slow slog, feeling very ashamed of my speed in front of the cheering crowds.
Other mistakes: drank too much water and got a stitch - what am I like? Spent too much time trying to relace my shoe to give my sore ankle support - should have just run through it as it was hard to get going after stopping to relace. And I did that THREE TIMES - obviously my faculties were going!
Good things: finished it, didn't walk, didn't mind Roebuck Hill or the breezy day. Loved the support - the people of Dublin were amazing! Loved the Wall of Support at Roebuck, loved the zoo keepers in the Phoenix Park and the nuns (real ones) near Clonskeagh. Running through town and through Walkinstown and Kimmage, and coming out of the Phoenix Park it was like being in a parade or something everyone was cheering so much! My clubmates seemed to be everywhere & I could not have finished without their support and the support of my parents & my sister and nephew who were all in the last two miles. I would have been ashamed to walk past them, so that kept me running. My physio was also out cheering, which was so nice of him!

Bad things: there was nothing bad about the race, the course, the supporters, the day. I just wish I'd HTFU-ed and ran harder for the last four miles. I didn't feel elated or full of achievement at the end, I just felt I'd let myself down.

I'm so glad I did it though, and after all the talk about medals etc over on the other thread and me saying I didn't care - it turns out my t-shirt & medal actually mean a lot to me, because I keep thinking of how I would have felt seeing all my friends wearing them if I hadn't managed to finish. I also bought a mug at the Expo that I wasn't allowed to use until after I'd crossed the finish line, so I'm proud of that too!

My husband finished in a fantastic PB, so I'm so proud of him, the speedy thing, and lots of my friends did really, really well too, so a great day was had by all!

Next year I'll train harder & more consistently, do more speedwork, and I think I might try taking gels as well. Onwards & upwards!

    Well done, all fellow novices!

:( Suppose I have to take this thread off my favourites bar now!

Can someone add me in for 4:22:10 . Comments - "enjoyed every bit of it and can't wait to do it all again!

Would be grateful if someone added me too!
4:27:12 - Was hard hard work, but delighted at the end!

Just wanted to say aswell, someone asked me during the race if I'd done all my training on my own - and I had to think for a minute, cause while I was by myself for all those loooooonnggg runs, I really didn't feel I was on my own!
Soppy, I know, but actually true!

Well done HelenAnne, I was wondering where your report was, you're a very good runner which can be seen from your times for shorter distances.
You just need some luck with the injuries so that you can get some confidence from the training. I'd say you'll put in some very good performances in the future.

Thanks! That's very nice of you to say. I have had a few things this year, but last year I was completely injury & illness free, so fingers crossed 2014 will be like that. And now there's cross country to look forward to!
