Apparently this has been fully cracked now, allowing for indefinite offline play, saving, apparently it makes the population count accurate and allows for bigger maps as well.

So basically the pirated version is possibly superior to the legitimate one?
    EA, you're doing anti-piracy wrong.

  • Moderators Posts: 5,554 ✭✭✭Azza

    Possibly.

But bare in mind a few factors.
The population accuracy issue isn't a bug but a design feature.
Secondly not sure what the cracks compatibility with current and future patches is. Or how stable the crack is.
You can only properly pirate the game almost 2 full months after release. That in itself could be perceived as a a victory against piracy. Potentially some people who where intending to pirate game had there resolve broken due to the lengthy time they had to wait, caved in and bought the game.

As far as I can tell its actually a mod for the game thats out. Still no fully cracked pirated version(if there is ,I haven't seen it on any of the usual sites and no one is posting it). The mod will allow all the things stated but there is a chance that ea will lock the game if you use the crack.

Turns out that offline mode mode I mentioned was a fake.

    Patch 4.0 out tomorrow.

Only important fix is the global markets, getting close to having all launch features finally re-enabled i think?

The update notes show that the vast majority of fixes are targeted at continuing complains about traffic and congestion. Examples include allowing traffic to make a right true at a red light, as happens in major US cities. It also addresses some of the issues with upturns.

Yet still the main issue with regards to one entrance per city hasnt been fixed which has always been the main traffic complaint

I read that 4.0 is released. Is it safe to buy this yet? Are there many other issues besides city size?

Wait until it's dirt cheap. And I mean €5-10. While it's fun to a point, it's design is a mess and they'll be patching this long after the next Sim City game is released.

I started a new city today and had a highway through the middle of the map so had two entry points technically. Not sure if that's new but I never seen it before.

A couple of maps had that at launch. They may have increased the number of them though.

Anyone know if its safe to start up a new game?

My great works site was driving me nuts - having differnt quantities and being all over the place!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Origin is down however the game connects but wont let me access it because of Origin!

Having a great time at the moment with a city I built - I must be getting better because its very profitable, has over 200k residents, investments are paying off. Even with top of the range police, healthcare, and fire services it remains profitable, as well as a near perfect education system (one high school & community college.

I then jump over to my first city, monthly its profitable from my business investments but daily its screwed. Have 180k pop and over 3 million in the bank. I have a uni too! My city specialisation is over 19k which is probably crippling me. What do i do to fix it? I'm thinking of bulldozing the lot and trying to start again. Any tips?

Yeah that was probably a mistake

Over-riding disappointment will be the fact that you cant expand the size of the city "town"

I had a small bit of hands on at the very start, didn't play it enough to notice bugs

With all the latest patches.. is the game actually enjoyable? i.e. is it worth getting

    or should I keep waiting?

    Keep waiting imo... indefinitely. Probably.

Hopefully you're in the minority who seem to genuinely enjoy it. I hope you're not like me and go from quite enjoying it on day one to being quite disillusioned with how shallow the simulation is by the end of the week.

  • Moderators Posts: 5,554 ✭✭✭Azza

What was the simulation like in earlier SimCity games, I haven't played any of them?

Statistical mostly. Instead of trying to model individual agents things like traffic and zonal demand were generated by the engine from what it thought would be statistically realistic based on certain factors in your city. All numbers like education levels, health and so on were also generated this way being affected by hospital or school coverage. There were issues with this definitely, you got some really strange weird traffic problems where there shouldn't be any and traffic could behave quite oddly at times. Also there was the issue of bus stops actually having zero effect on traffic when the game shipped and not being "fixed" until the expansion.

However, for its flaws, it was still a deep game in terms of optimisation. Many, many years later people were still discovering new layouts that optimised this or that aspect. Plus the engine itself was fairly moddable so the community made improvements over time to the simulation.

This sums it up for me, having a great time with city i built then something unbeknownst to me would start screwing it up, and i go and start a new city only having to turn the game off because i got annoyed with only having so much room, i think there is no longevity in the game, ive done pretty much everything

It's definitely a game that loses appeal pretty quick. I like it now and again in short enough bursts but it kinda feels like a facebook app game with improved graphics. Would rather play SC 4 with mod's, at lease it tries to be a simulator game. After enough game play and them trying to fix it, I would barely give it a 5/10 so probably a 4. Wish it was better, I really do.

I have not been back for a long time, still waiting for the bigger space. I had hoped the Theme park amusement park DLC would essentially let you build a theme park in your city. It kind of does but they are all pre set plopables. I would have loved if you could make your own roller coaster etc.
