    My city
Looks tiny. I would like to build a city, not some small town.

    EA has killed SimCity :'(

It does not look kind of small, is that the limit to a single city ? What are yere views on the game in general , worth getting ? my internet connection is reliable but it looks like they really reduced the size of the cities to lower the system requirements required to run it. Surely an option for larger cities will be added later ?

Have they said if they're going to release a demo of this down the line?

Prob not as it's now released and considering the problems they're having with their servers and that fact the had a BETA test of the game as well.

I think the smaller towns will be more of a challenge!

Polygon changed their review to an 8.0 because of the connection issues http://www.polygon.com/game/simcity-2013/2630

And also because they got caught out hyping pre-release buggy code, and numerous gameplay restrictions, which pr handlers assured them would be "fixed" by launch.

Oh and that they totally underestimated the user lashback against stupid drm restrictions masquerading as design choices.

And the nickel and diming with releasing already built features as dlc packs. Or forced Facebook integration.

Basically, all the usual things lazy game journos ignore whenever they're pampered and instructed to parrot the company's pr line.

Looking forward to get this. The city size is small but if you build a top end hospital - it benefits the whole region. If you look at Boston, it consists of loads of cities connected together, and that is what SC looks like to me anyway, all cities can benefit from the infrastructure in one and vice versa

    From IGN:
This, by the way, is the third time around this 20-minute clock. Each time I think I'm getting close to playing, I'm booted back again. And this is after EA added a second server to both the US West and US East regions, both of which are at least as full as this one.

Um, did they seriously release the game with only enough server coverage that when even doubled it would not handle launch day traffic? Seriously? I don't think EA/Maxis are that dumb surely. It's hardly a lack of cash with EA behind it, it's hardly intentional because of the reputation damage so wtf happened?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,911 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

I havent had any trouble but probably because nobodies on the EU servers yet

There is no real reputation damage. Thats the point. Not monetarily anyway.

Every year with fifa, the servers are an absolute mess for the first few weeks. Clubs, ranked, ultimate team etc. It's a disaster. And yet we still buy EA games. And Fifa is a franchise that nets them several hundred million dollars through micro transactions. Sim city is dwarfed by that sort of income by a factor of several hundred.

The bottom line is that financially, buying or even renting enough servers to cover the first week rush is a waste. They simply wait untill it calms down and count their money.

You can hardly blame them. If people spoke more with their wallets, practises would have to change. But they don't. I'll buy next years fifa and im buying SimCity. Speaks for itself.

I managed to get the US version pretty easily yesterday. For anyone looking for a VPN to do this, try TunnelBear. The free version gives more than enough so you can get access.

I got my key from Green Man Gaming, while using TunnelBear to access it from the US. I happen to have a US Visa card, but I've heard that you can use one from anywhere. I got my key right away, then opened up Origin (while still connected to TunnelBear), and put it in there. Once the download began, I turned off TunnelBear. The download continues anyway. Once it's finished, you're good to go.

As others have mentioned, the EU servers are already up, so you can get going there right away. It probably will change on Friday when everyone else comes on though!

So, what you're saying is that we can blame FIFA players for all this? Works for me. :D

I'm in from Friday if I can join the region!

edit: I'm either Newaglish or ptar86

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,734 ✭✭✭Newaglish

Also: How are people using the EU servers already? I understand how you would get onto the US servers but how do you even get a product key? Will Green Man Gaming send them out early? Or can you use a US account to access EU servers?

  • Registered Users Posts: 761 ✭✭✭youreadthat

The servers have geographic names but they are essentially the same thing and anyone can go on any server.

  • Registered Users Posts: 761 ✭✭✭youreadthat

I'm up for the region play. I'm getting this as a gift on Friday (was my birthday the other day).

    Origin name: nichollz

I ordered off Gren Man and my key popped up yesterday. There is no US/EU version its all the same game just gets unlocked at different times depending on what geographical region origin thinks your in. And yeah the US EU sever thing no idea about that but guessing its just so the US guys dont get pissy when people start speaking a foreign language

    Keep getting error:

Any idea on what I should do?!
