But are people not just shoehorn into the smaller plane, less comfort, less leg and shoulder room, not as smooth a flight compared to the a330.
Yes they want to save money in operating costs, so is it though luck for the passengers, also will they pass on the reduction to passenger ticket prices.

Seats should have close to identical width, legroom and shoulder room to a 330.

Passengers wouldn't have the flights to go on *at all* without the 757 - they'd remain summer-only.

Pass on the savings??? They're a business, not a charity.

The savings will result in higher profits on the route, the price as always will still be set by supply and demand.

The "saving" to pax is that they are getting a year round service and won't have to transfer.

Just because the plane is smaller it doesn't necessarily follow that passengers will have less legroom or smaller seats.

If you are travelling as either a pair or a single the a330 kicks the 757s ass in terms of comfort if you manage to get a two seater non middle seat which is not that hard

Personally I think if you live outside the great county of Dublin, thats your fault! :P

So the choice is, pack your hang sambos at stupid o'clock, drive to the capital and fly the A330 across the wide atlantic OR fly a 757 direct from Shannon which has new seats, the same seat pitch, personal in flight entertainment and a lot less of a headache to get there.

The single aisle v dual aisle debate is as old as the jet v turboprop debate.

Does this mean EI will be keeping these birds from another few years? I know they got rid of three A321's a few years ago now..

i wonder will they look at getting some more tbh, if there year is as good this year as last

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭basill

At the time the decision was made to get rid of them they were flying around half empty burning more fuel than an A320. Roll on a couple of years and with the benefit of hindsight there are a number of routes they would fit given the improved load factors and the sophisticated booking engine. However the NEO is on the horizon and if it lives up to its promises then the resale of old 321s will no doubt plunge which could make it an expensive move grabbing some 321s at this point.

Of course nothing ever stands still in aviation and if an attractive lease deal came up in the intervening period I am sure it will be considered.

At least one of the A321's sold by EI are now operated by Ural Airlines based in Yekaterinberg in Russia.

Some routes really need the extra seats hence A330 doing a FAO rotation from DUB in summer

Malaga is also served sometimes by EI A330's. Back in '05 and '06 Nice was too.

Aer Lingus are using sleeper pods in the cargo hold of the A330 on the new long haul routes (Denmark to Mexico?) with multiple crews. Any pictures of the inside of these and how big are they?

Since when did they do Denmark to Mexico

EI-DUO has the crew rest areas I think, a legacy of the west coast routes.

It might actually be Stockholm Sweden to Mexico as well, pretty long routes.
Aer Lingus tendered for these routes last year to provide aircraft and crew for
some other airline, the hostesses are not Aer Lingus. Part of a new outsourcing strategy they are trying and it seems to be working.
You wont find these routes on the Aer Lingus website to book them :)

Since November last year. The aircraft is leased to a Swedish airline for the winter months to earn some money.

    Yes.

    Novair:

    Airbus A330-200 x1
    Passengers x267
    Leased from Aer Lingus.
    Registry EI-LAX.

Aer Lingus has leased the aircraft to Novair for a short term wet lease for the winter months on ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance) terms, and as such are supplying the flightdeck crew.

The aircraft retains full Aer Lingus branding, the flight deck crew are still Aer Lingus staff, but the cabin crew are being provided by Novair.

Is EI-LBT, the fully painted 757 in service yet? If it is, I'm surprised there are no youtube videos of it yet?
