Who in your opinion was the worst human being to ever walk this planet regardless of any innate mental health problems. I was thinking Hitler, what makes it even worse for him was that he wasn't suffering from psychotic tendencies, he was born perfectly normal. Another person I think of is Thug Behram, who was responsible for 931 murders in India in the 19th century, his name is the origin of the word thug in our language.

Stalin killed at least ten million of his own people, probably more than double that.

That's pretty good going for a madman I reckon.

A psychopath is born with the problem. Historian's in psycho analysing him found no signs of mental illness in his early development and early adulthood, he developed his crazy views over time. His final mind state was subject to outside influence, a psychopath is born bad. It's an innate feature.

Some estimates put that figure above 60 million.

There're plenty of Popes, Kings and Immams who're known only to historians... A few Chinese emperors maybe.

The only thing Hitler and Stalin had on their sides were notoriety and industry to make for the megadeaths. Pol Pot comes close. Maybe a few African generals.

It's hard to beat Pol Pot for sheer malevolence.

Difficult to say. Hitler or Stalin never underwent psychological assessments to declare whether they were outright psychopaths or just delusional and misguided, products of their time. Of the two Stalin is the most likely as he reportedly never expressed any emotions.

    Hitler was not born normal
He grew up basically a midget with a gimp leg
    Chap was nuts

Psychopath wise I'd go with likes of Charles Manson
    And Jeffrey dalmer
And any Cnut that killed children in my opinion

Ted Bundy is another good example of a person born with psychotic tendencies. Jeffery Dahmer like somebody mentioned is another. The one striking feature about Dahmer was that he expressed remorse for his actions and was cleared to stand trial as a sane person, this bucks the trend somewhat. I think in his case there was a sexual aspect to his crimes, he achieved sexual gratification from dismembering bodies.

Yes I put it out there for a discussion. It's purely opinion based, I don't expect us to agree on any one name.

Salvatore Gravano of the Gambino Mafia Family is another one. Jimmy Coonan the leader of the Irish mob 'The Westies' in Hell's Kitchen Manhattan was another deeply disturbed individual, his captains described his sadism in dept when Jimmy stood trial. Coonan came from a good middle class background but yet found a way to indulge his diseased mind. Gotti Jnr stated in court that the Mafia only took on the Westies because they were afraid of the consequences if they didn't.

No it's an innate feature in a person. The word is often misused in modern media.

It's a personality disorder characterised by shallow emotions. No empathy, no fear, irresponsibility, egocentricity and lack of remorse. It often leads to anti social behaviour, because they lack such features as empathy or remorse they tend to veer off in the wrong direction in life. It's a recognised mental disorder, the person can't help the way they act. In most cases it's untreatable.

I watched a programme about Bundy, he was a well educated guy who socialised in well to do circles and was a sadistic killer behind it all.

He admitted to 30 murders I think but it was reckoned he killed well over a hundred girls.

Superficial charm is another characteristic of psychopath. They're manipulative and often use others. The scary thing is the symptoms aren't always easy to pick up on, we all know assholes in our lives but do we assume that they're psychopaths?

Like you mentioned Ted Bundy, he was popular intelligent and good looking, he didn't have to coerce any girls to go with him, his charm led the way.

An interesting fact is that during his trial the court was full of "groupies", young women who were nearly fighting each other to get his attention.

They didn't seem to realise that if he met them on a dark night they would be dead.

Yeah I remember reading about that. Isn't it strange that some women are attracted to this type of person, is it the bad boy image or what?

Another interesting case is the Green River killer, married twice and had a family, he was only caught by pure chance.

Every country has a lady killer like Bundy. Larry Murphy here is rumored to be responsible for what 6 disappearances and was only caught by pot luck. Didn't he get back into bed with his pregnant wife after spotted by the hunters.

I heard that it's not that a psychopath doesn't know right from wrong it's that they don't care (unless something affects them directly) . A total lack of empathy . Many people in society have a tendency , a lot of business people , risk takers , leaders ect.
Many fake empathy as they believe society demands it and an absence would hinder their advancement... Try Wikipedia

It's not a total lack of empathy. But you are right about risk takers. There's a book called Risk whick goes into some detail about them.
A good point he mentions is that many of our hero's In times of danger where most of our heart rates may rise, theirs slow down. It beause it's how the view risk and rewards and their lack of fear.

An important thing to remember is that psychopathy is not a personality disorder. It's a personality type. Anti Social Personality disorder is the actual disorder.

Yes but we know that the psychopath learns our moral code. They'll break it because they don't feel the same emotions as you or I. You can compare characteristics to people in the corporate world but only to a point, there's a line that's crossed.

This guy is pretty bad. He personally killed tens of thousands of people. Not just ordered, but actually pulled the trigger.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasili_Blokhin
Blokhin led a company of executioners that performed and supervised numerous mass executions during Stalin's reign, mostly during the Great Purge and World War II. He is recorded as having executed tens of thousands of prisoners by his own hand, including his killing of about 7,000 Polish prisoners of war during the Katyn Massacre in 1940, making him the most prolific official executioner in recorded world history
