I am always like that before a race, I’m feeling anxious about the Waterford ½ as well. I think a combination of a couple of niggly injuries and worried about lacking speed runs since DCM. Also, I’m not particularly motivated at the moment, struggling to find my enthusiasm for running on these horrible evenings.

All you can do is start out with the 1:40 pacers and if worse comes to worse, you can drop back a bit if the pace is too much. No-one will think any worse of you if you do 1:45 instead of 1:40! I bet you any money that you will do a sub 1:40, but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t, don’t put so much pressure on yourself!

    |Mon|Tue|Wed|Thur|Fri|Sat|Sun|
    |Rest|3 mile easy|4 miles easy with strides|rest|2m easy (optional)|RACE|2 miles recovery
Wednesdays strides can either be 6 x 20 seconds (walk back recoveries) at the end of your run or 1 set of Pyramid strides if you prefer it.

I'm having a minor crisis of confidence tonight. Normally when I start questioning myself I just think of something else but that's not working at the moment.

All I can think of is 13.1 (minimum) x 7:30 min/mi. Can I do that??? If I can do one then I can do 13.1 but have I enough training done at that pace??? Mentally can I push myself that hard???

I do realise of course that nobody, except for me, gives a continental what time I get but still I just feel so.....anxious or something. Definitely more disturbed than usual anyway! I wish I could just switch my brain off!

And there's 6 more days to go...... I'm going to be wired on Saturday!!!

All those feelings are totally normal. I've often gone into a race saying 'how the hell can I run that speed when I can't even do it in training'. But somehow on the day adrenaline kicks in and if confidence is good, then anything is possible.

You're slacking these days, dazza is beating you to it in the mornings!*

My last 2 pairs of runners gave me blisters but the mizuno's are fine for me. I've learned once you find a pair that works for you, stick to them.

I have however just ordered the inspire 9s in a 'go faster' blue colour! Think Im going to get another pair of 8s too and alternate between the pairs. My current one's have hit the 500mile mark now.

    *sh!t sturring

Is he? Huh! Note to self - must get voodoo doll of Dazza and pull its legs off

I'm getting a lot of blisters with them and they don't feel great. I think I'll wear the other pair of Mizuno on Saturday.

I don't think blue is your colour by the way (also you don't need to go any faster!)

Ah now leave the legs alone!! Us morning runners have to stick together!

+1 maybe you can direct your voodoo doll blocky's way!

In fairness that looks good, nice and consistant.
You are allowed to do them a little faster than 5k pace ;)

    Here's what I've done today:

single leg extension x 20 reps each leg
press up + side stand x 20 reps
    torso + waist twists x 12 reps
    standard crunch x 50 reps
knee up crunch x 60 reps
lunge x 20 reps each leg
side lunge x 20 reps each leg
triceps extension x 20 each arm
    straight plank 90 secs x 2
sideways leg lift x 20 reps each leg
single leg twist x 20 reps each leg
    rowing squat x 45 reps
arm and leg lift x 20 both sides
single arm stand x 6 reps each arm
balance bridge x 10 reps each leg
single leg reach x 20 reps each leg

    :D

I wasn't working today and the gallop was frozen so couldn't exercise any horses => lots of energy!!!

Best of luck tomorrow, I know you’re going to smash that 1:40!

Unfortunately, I’m a non runner for tomorrow, just can’t get out of this stupid stock take in work. I feel really bad as I was looking forward to meeting you and all the other Boardsies running. Plus I feel awful that I’m taking up one of the places when I know there were so many disappointed to miss out. I suppose these things happen though.

Looking forward to your race report!
