Hope you get round without any puntures- it's like following the route of the national hedge trimming championships.

Soul destroying trying to remove a thorn with frozen fingers.

No punctures thankfully but it was tough going in the wind and cold.

Orange warnings a plenty & with a risk of ice in shaded areas too it’s a 3 day turbo block for me sadly. I like my shoulders & bike in one piece so it’s the correct decision.

Yeah, that's looking like my reluctant decision too unfortunately. Probably my worst Christmas for getting out, so was looking forward to gravelling*, but whatever my heart is saying, head is telling me to cop the feck on!

*have to get between gravel on back roads, and I have come off on ice on a fire road in the past!

I’d rather be sorry I stayed at home than sorry I went out is another way to summarise the weekend ahead.

I'll be tidying up the MTB over the weekend and leaving for work earlier. Took the lazy way out and drove the last two days. This is officially the longest I have been off a bike in 20 years if my memory serves me well

Unless you like hospital food. The main roads will be gritted anyway. Lunacy to try and ride on back roads.

i just nearly went arse over tit putting the bin out.

Serves you right for cycling with a bin in your hand. Hugely irresponsible.

Yeah I prepped to cycle Friday but hadnt quite got the alarm clock routine sorted post christmas so I hopped in the car. Think this was wiser.. considering zero traffic.

Ended up getting out around carton this morning on the mtb and it was an awesome spin.. frosty ground but loads of grip.

I'm hoping for some snow tomorrow. I like cycling in the snow

Big snow in 2010 and I was the only one who made it in too work some nights. My boss rang me from the top of an off ramp on the M50 and I told him to go home if he could. Great craic, fixed gear and cable ties round the wheels for grip.

Abandoned the club ride this morning. My feet and hands were frozen with no sign of them thawing out - then it just became all consuming. I was overdressed yesterday so wore less today expecting it to be much warmer. It's very rarely that I get very cold feet.

If this becomes an ongoing problem then perhaps you could consider buying some dedicated winter road cycling boots (Northwave Raptor or similar). I have been using winter boots for years and they make a big difference vs standard road shoes with some type of cover.

That said, I have yet to find a combination of inner & outer gloves that keep my hands warm.

Heated Gloves, and Heated Socks. The socks made far more of a difference than boots for me.

Not sure I'm on the wimp list or sensible list, but still a bit too icy for me up here this weekend. They weren't lying about a slow thaw anyway…

Ah yea, I've been using winter boots for years and rarely have cold feet but today was an exception. I also didn't use my heavier gloves thinking it was going to be milder.

You can also block up the vents in normal shoes with blue tac and tape. Some cling film around the shoes before putting on shoe covers is another trick I've seen lads using

I was overheating on spin this morning.

I lost a kilo in sweat on two days last week by not dressing right
