Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If the modem is a upc one will it not work though?

No, quite possibly they'll ask you how you got hold of it as it's UPC's property and therefore shouldn't be resold. I heard of one person being asked to return it.

So there's no chance I can just plug it in and it will work?

Nope. The modem will receive the cm_unknown.bin config file and you'll have no internet access at all until you put your EPC2425 back in.

If I phone Upc will they upgrade me to a modem that I can Bridge?

Can't say for sure. Their official line is that they don't support bridging.

However, as you're on a 2425, I assume you're on the 30 meg package? You could upgrade to Fibre 50 Chat and they'd issue you a Technicolor modem. While you can't officially bridge it, there's a workaround that currently works fine. Just be aware you'd be tied into another contract if you choose this option.

We are in lusk and I don't think the cabling supports above 25 mb. Best I ever get on a speed test is about 15 mb

I might be able to work without bridging. I bought a secondhand netgear. WNDR4000 wanted to be able to use it to get wireless n speeds on all devices that support it and g on those that don't. I've flashed ddwrt on the netgear. I know I could configure it as a wireless Bridge but is there anything I can do to get it wired to my exiting cisco and connect everything wirlessly to the netgear?

    Hi guys
Have to give big shout out to upc. Phoned yesterday expecting a blank refusal. I explained I had the older router and had a mix of wireless g and n devices in the house and wanted to buy a third party router with dual band support. Guy put me on hold, came back to me said they would send me out a ep3925 today. Was a bit sceptical but got a call at 3 from driver to say he was on way. Swapped over the router and brought old one with him. For craic I did speed test when I got home and got 29mb. Only ever achieved max of about 18 before.

As it happens I also purchased an Asus rt66 router today which I should have by weekend. To setup I just need to switch the Cisco to bridge mode? Plug in the Asus into lan port on the cisco and the rest should work automatically?

Does enabling Bridge mode on the Cisco automatically disable wifi on the router?

My pc is in a different room so can't connect via cable. Once in Bridge mode I should still be able to connect to the Cisco via the Asus?

    Cheers Mick

No, read first post - You will have to turn off few things.

Wow, they sent you a 3925 that easily? :)

When you enable bridge mode, you can still access the Cisco via http://192.168.100.1. This is the standard IP address for DOCSIS cable modems.

The first post describes how to put it in Bridge mode via a html hack? I think from reading the thread it was enabled in drop down via firmware update

Yes, you don't need the HTML hack anymore, but you'll still need to disable the Wi-Fi yourself.

But I should be able to disable the wifi once I've bridged and set up the Asus by going to the ip you specified in the previous post?

I'm not that familiar with the UI on the 3925 but I can't see why not.

    Hi Guys,

I got my ASUS RT66 yesterday. Setup was very straightforward - connected its wan port to a lan port on the cisco, piped all the ethernet cables i had to the cisco into the lan ports on the asus. Connected wirelessly to the cisco's SSID and changed the mode to 'bridged' The modem rebooted, and then I booted the ASUS. Setting up the ASUS was a breeze, walked me through setting an admin password, then wireless password and SSID. All my connections worked. Connected to the the new http address of the cisco and disabled its wireless broadcast.

Everything was working fine. I decided to upgrade the firmware on the ASUS. Did that via the ASUS and that process went grand and I was able to connect to the internet etc via all devices. After a few minutes though the internet connection dropped and I didnt have time to investigate. This morning before running out the door, i rebooted both the cisco and the asus again but there was still no internet access via the ASUS. I didnt have time to investigate but what could have gone wrong? I did have internet access after updating the firmware as i was able to run speedtests etc on my phone.

Could there be an IP conflict and maybe rebooting some of the devices might help? I've seen that before with the older cisco.

I'm hoping it will be working when I get home this evening but doubt it. I guess first thing will be to run the ASUS setup wizard again.. Anyone have simillar issues before?

Just an aside - I have a wireless N card in my PC and direct to the cisco on the connection properties on Windows 8 the speed was being reported as 127mb... With the ASUS that is now being reported as 450mb.. Hopefully should mean improved streaming..

    Cheers,
    Mick

Hi I have the 3925 in Bridge mode now, I have a TP Link router with DD-WRT installed on it that I want to use as my main router while connected to the 3925, I'm not having a lot of luck getting it to access the internet.

Does anyone have any tips at all?

The TP Link router in question does have a WAN port on it if that helps!

My mysterious outages were due to the Cisco being plugged into a powerblock that we cut power to each night... Was on hold to Upc when I noticed it...

This is the guide i followed roger. Although it is for bridging the RT-N16 it may give you some pointers as to a step you may have left out

Hi moonboy, thanks I was looking at that guide, unfortunately as I'm running a DD-WRT firmware on my other router I can't see any real internet setup guide its all sort of manual which is why i'm stuck.

I have Tomato on mine Roger. maybe set DD-WRT back to defaults.

  • Registered Users Posts: 527 ✭✭✭rogercross

Many thanks for your help, I can't explain it I really can't but a second full reset back to defaults and the DD-WRT router picked up all necessary connection settings from my bridged UPC router :-)

Finally got around to doing this and am delighted I did.
    Everything working perfect now.
Was having terrible drops and speeds with wifi but now all is stable.
Great speeds all over the house and really stable.
    Thanks OP.

This might be a stupid question, but...
What happens to the 4 switch ports of the EPC3925 when you put it into bridge mode?
Like, what if I connect 2 (or more) PCs to the switch ports? Will they simply not get an IP address from the ISP because the 1 that is available has already been assigned?

    Thanks.

You'll be able to use up to 3 of them to get 3 unique public IPs. I don't know why, but UPC does allow up to 3 per customer. If you're just looking to create a home network, just use one of the EPC's ports and a router/switch, etc., for the rest.

^ Dont think you get 3x the bandwidth though, they share the same pipe(so if you were to use two you'd break QoS).

Oh no, unlikely. I've had my modem bridged since September 2012 and haven't really used more than one IP at a time, there's no real need. I just use the one port on my modem and the router does the rest.

Are you on UPC Ireland? If so you don't need to do the code injection anymore. Also, new versions of Opera are based on Google Chrome so this probably won't work. You'd need to use an older version based on the old layout engine.

no I am not from Ireland, I live in Bosnia so I just googled how to set up my dlink with this cisco modem.. My cable company gave me this modem, but the internet (wifi) is horrible so I want to use my dlink dir 655 ... I am completely lost right now, and not sure what to do. I connected my dlink and created a connection, I can log on to the wifi but there is no internet connection over wifi or wired.... so exactly what do I do now?

when I go under management in the cisco modem all I can select is the following:

It shouldn't do. My SSID is way off what UPC use as standard. Have you tried enabling your 3925's WiFi while in bridge mode for a test? You can turn on the wireless without reverting to router mode.

I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks. I should have mentioned that the TV Guide works fine, it's just when I try to watch Live TV I get the error message about UPC WiFi.

I tried it the other night and was able to watch RTÉ no bother. I didn't try many other channels, but even on the day that it came out I was able to watch it. I know UPC have a thing about it being on their network, but by that they mean using their broadband service with their IP address. That should be all you need and the router needn't be an issue. It's just very strange.

You should also consider erasing the data on the app (you know how to do that?) and when you launch it again, it will be back at factory state, so you should then sign in again on your UPC connection (on your own TP-Link router).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,749 ✭✭✭degsie

Just tried clearing app data and force close. Was able to log in and STB was recognised etc. Still fails to play live TV. Daft question (maybe!) but does your STB have to be on to view live channels on the app?

To be honest, I don't have UPC TV. I use my ma's credentials. I set it up for her so I figured why not put it to good use. I reckon their STB is plugged in 24/7 but certainly not powered on 24/7. So I'm not even on the same network as her TV subscription (which is Horizon and the box is being used as the modem).

Ah very good. I'm using UPC's DNS exclusively except for on my PC where I sometimes use a smart DNS for Netflix. So that would explain it. Nice to know that the DNS matters.

    Hello guys.

I'm from Italy and I connect to the internet via a cable modem connected to my router, WRT54G flashed with tomato.

My ISP will next week change my modem to the EPC3925 and it will be configured to bridged mode by them.

Can you please confirm I have to change no settings inside my router before the change?

Which means that when the new modem is delivered, I remove the old modem, I install the EPC3925 and connect it with the router via port 1 of the EPC3925 and then connect normally to the internet?

    thanks!

You cannot connect to your router after bridging on the standard ip address (e.g 192.168.1.1), you would need to set up a static ip address in the range 192.168.100.2 - 192.168.100.254 and then try to connect to the bridged modem @ 192.168.100.1

I'm not (yet) bridged. After paste html code and "save settings" is where I got black screen with 403
