Just heard there a&l pfos were sent by post today... Don't live at home so must wait a while for response!

Does anyone know whether they do pfos by post and invitation to interview by email, or do they do it all by post?

Just got a PFO from Fry's, got one from Matheson earlier in the week too. Such a pity about Maples not running internships this year! All my hopes now rest on A&L Goodbody, I have my fingers firmly crossed.

Same.. Got one from Matheson earlier in the week too.

At least I got to the group interview stage with Arthur Cox :P (but not to individuals)

Think I'll do a j1 next year.. the thoughts of doing all those applications again :P

what?! maples were my last hope. well along with kod lyons but obvo didn't get that either. nobody loves me! except maybe byrne wallace (please!). getting them all together is soul destroying. if it's the same as traineeships a+l seem to do good news by post and email and bad news just by mail. i feel like most firms let the "yes" ppl know before the "no" people tho.

That is always the way. It wouldnt make much sense to do it the other way around.

Just got called for an interview with kod lyons, anyone have any experience being interviewed by them?

I got the same call.. initially scared by the format, 1st and 2nd round interviews in the one day, but prob best just getting it done and over with and no waiting around for weeks waiting to hear!

    Anyone interviewed here before?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭Gunslinger92

^ Is that for an internship or a traineeship?
    Good luck anyway :)

Does anyone know where you can get the FE-1 revision books or can ye recommend a good course:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 johnjoesim

You can buy them second hand on adverts.ie for around €50, from what ive heard independent colleges offer the best revision courses, also they have had most of the top achievers in the last few years. Does anyone know if Byrne Wallace sent out pfo's yet or if they're even still doing an internship this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 285 ✭✭Ashashi

    Anyone hear back from ByrneWallace?

  • Registered Users Posts: 170 ✭✭Ownleme

no. i think they were last to get back to ppl about the traineeships as well. They rang with interview offers and then email pfos but i think that was just cuz it was christmas cuz they posted them aswell.

Recently had an interview for some work experience at a firm which pretty much specialise in one area of law and no other....

They said if things went well a traineeship may be on the cards later down the line - just wondering how this works??

Do you not have to train in a variety / broad areas of law??

Would I have to do secondments to other firms to get experience?

(Not sure if I should post this here or in the FE1 thread)

There are a number of blocks which you must complete http://www.lawsociety.ie/Pages/Public-Becoming-a-Solicitor-CMS/Irish-Applicants-Solicitor/Training-Programme/

There is a feeling that the required blocks are out of touch with the modern corporate solicitor and many trainees just specialise in one area. There are obvious risks and benefits. You should know the area inside out and better than someone who did a 4 month rotation. However, if it turns out that you aren't suited to it, it'll make things difficult for you. However, the work experience should give you a fair idea of whether this area is for you. If not, any experience in a law office gives you an edge so it will be beneficial.

In any case, most firms that specialise in a particular area, also have a couple of Solicitors who do other things within the firm so even if you join a specialist IT law firm for example, they would help to negotiate contracts with a lot of companies at home or abroad and some of those contacts may incorporate in Ireland or expand and need help with premises, houses for the directors etc. In that sense, most specialist law firms try to keep their clients business so even if this firm aren't big into conveyancing for example, there may still be opportunities to learn at the firm.

Has anyone any experience in applying for Philip Lee? They require a 1,000 word submission on one of three topics, along with cv and cover letter. (The positions are for paid work experience, which may lead to a traineeship.)
