I just rang Holles Street to check on the bloods I had at my booking apt on 10th Oct. Holles Street don't do any follow up on them unless somethings wrong so wanted to ring for peace of mind. She said everything came back fine, only thing is I am blood group B rhesus negative? So she went onto say about if I fall or bleed I need to come straight in for an anti D injection...

I am a bit miffed to say the least they didn't contact me to let me know, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue? My first consultant apt is not until 18th December so I suppose that's when they were going to let me know.

I got a letter yesterday for the thyroid clinic for November 9th as mine is underactive so at a push I should be able to discuss it with her maybe although that consultant is an endocrinologist so not really her field.. I told the midwife at my booking apt I have been seeing a private endo for years but she went ahead and made an apt for me anyway. Am not filled with confidence in Holles Street at the moment!!

Sorry for the ramble, suppose I am a bit thrown by this. Am assuming given Holles Street lack of follow up being rhesus neg isn't a major deal but the internet would lead you to believe differently!!

I can understand why you're annoyed at this really. One of the first questions my consultant asked me was what blood group I was, and there was lots of pamphlets in the waiting areas about the significance of being rhesus negative. It's definitely an important piece of information to be aware of and how would you know to attend the hospital if you fell and you felt fine afterwards??

My brother-in-law's wife is rhesus negative and her first baby was B positive. As far as I'm aware, she got an anti D injection after the birth to reduce the risk of her developing antibodies for a positive blood group, which is important for subsequent children.

Thanks Nead. I suppose I wasn't quick enough to question why I hadn't been told, I think with the confusion and trying to take in the info I forgot, it wasn't until I hung up the phone it hit me.

I really thought a letter would have gone out with an information leaflet at the very least but I suppose I will have to leave it until the appointment on the 18th to question it further...

Janey Mac Digs that sounds really worrying, you poor thing. I guess at least you were savvy enough to ring up and chase them for results, and you know now so that is something :/

Yeah I agree that is pretty bad, I thought that was exactly the type of thing they would be ringing about after bloods to be honest, fair play for chasing it up. I got a call re my chic pox immunity to say that this time around after the vaccination I have immunity, never asked about the other bloods though :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭meggysmom

Yes I too agree Digs, the reason these bloods are done is to see if there are any issues, because the appointments are always a few weeks apart, you would think a phone call to alert you would have been a top priority.I don't know much about it but just goes to show you really have to be on top of your own health in this country and question everything and really educate yourself as doc's are just so under pressure and losing resources by the day to give you excellent care.

Great to hear from someone who has got immunity from vaccine rather than having the chicken pox as a child. My little one is obviously immune as she has had a lot of contact with her little cousin over the last 3 weeks and she never picked it up.I will now move forward with her booster shot before bubba # 2 arrives in april:)

Thanks girls, i really appreciate the support. I was beginning to wonder if I was just feeling sorry for myself but have said it to one or two people now and they agreed it's pretty bad form on Holles Street part.

    How is everyone doing?

I am at this weird stage where the morning sickness and fatigue has totally gone, but I have zilch bump, so I'm starting to think I dreamed it all up! Is anyone else feeling like this? I mean, I have had 2 ultrasounds, but I just don't feel like I'm pregnant if I have no symptoms and no bump... Silly I know but there it is!

Holding I have been reading so much that's completely normal at this stage. How many weeks are you? Have bouts of it myself and utter panic that sometimes wrong but am kind of still stuck in the 1st tri myself at 17 weeks it feels sometimes. I am heaps more tired now than I was then and still sick in the mornings. I have kicked the problem of the headaches though, have linked it to the pregnacare vitamins I was taking and I now only take them everysecond day so no headaches!!

I do have a bit of a bump, it's quite low but my upper abdomen bloats up a bit in the evening. There is definitely something there but it's growing quite slow!! I have heard some people just wake up one morning and bam there's your bump!

I have also been feeling the little flutters for the last week or so. I love it, it's like a little tickle or twitch in my tummy. Anyone else feeling these?

Hi everyone, hope you are all doing well, time is moving on for all of us thank god.I have been feeling pretty great, more energy, bump is definitly there and unmistakable now, but probably to be expected with second pregnancy.I am 18 weeks on Saturday and we have our Gender scan on sunday.I am nervous for some reason, like once we find out it will be more real that this new little person will be joining our family. My daughter is 4 at christmas and I feel like it's been just the 3 of us forever:)But we are all super excited for the new arrival.I had movement very early on,didn't want to report here just incase people read too much into it and it caused anyone anxiety, but at 11 weeks I could feel baby sommersaulting. It came and went and was very sporadic.I have had more constant movement over the last 2 weeks, mostly after a meal,it's fun and tickly:)The only thing I can complain about at the moment is restless legs at night mostly down my right side!!

I'm halfway through week 15 so a bit behind you lot! Look forward to the flutters, hope they come soon. And a bump!

Ah they will, I was feeling them properly about week 16, saying that though in case you don't a friend of mine didn't feel baby until 21 weeks so there's not set time. In the beginning I had to really concentrate on it they are so slight and brief. I happened to mention to my Mum I was having a funny muscle like twitch in my tummy and she laughed at me and said you do realise that's probably baby. As soon as I realised baby must have known because it wouldn't entertain me for a day or two

Meggysmom good luck with the scan, super exciting, have you any inkling or mothers intuition of gender yet?! I don't have mine until this day 4 weeks. Cannot wait to see baby again!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭meggysmom

I think movement varies so much from person to person and nobody has the same time when it happens. It was week 15-16 with my daughter, this time was just really early I didn't mention it to anyone only my mom and OH.It depends on so many different factors, your muscel tone, position of placenta and so on....
I have my 1st consultant and medical scan next thursday where I willl meet him for the 1st time.I've been told to be prepared for a long wait:(But I am looking forward to it.
As for mothers intuition I keep changing back and forth so that probably means I don't really have a clue.We have picked a definite girls name and I myself have picked a definate boys name although OH is taking some convincing on that so we will see.I brought all my little ones things home from US when we moved so having a girl would be financially better and using her 15, 5 litre tubs of clothing again would be great:)but honestly it may sound like the old cliche but I just want baby and myself to be happy and healthy-it really is the main thing and everything else is a bonus:)

Hey fellow lovely mummies to be :) I'm week 16 now too, bump is definetly there! One of the kids at school asked me if ihave a baby growing in my tummy the other day.. (not sure how much longer I can hide it at work :/)
Morning sickness/nausea has died down a lot but still occasionally gag when brushing my teeth in the morning,
I don't think I'm one of those people who blooms during pregnancy :( I look tired and I feel drab.
I can feel the baby's heartbeat, it's strongest after eating or at night but I'm not sure I feel it moving around in my tummy yet, although at our last scan on Tuesday we could see the baby moving its chubby little legs and sucking it's thumb :) it looks like its got daddy's full lips :D the doc was pretty sure it's a boy but the baby had the umbilical cord between it's legs so we're going back next week to try again!

Ohhh me neither pinkheels! I am like a spotty teenager, NEVER had spots before but now I have lovely bigs ones on my chin and under my nose that have set up camp and are refusing to move!

I am still puking in the mornings. It's ridiculous at this stage now I am beginning to think if it's just force of habit or a routine my body has settled itself into, I will not be happy if it keeps up for the next 22 weeks!! My poor husband keeps feverishly refering to his what to expect Dads iphone app and tells me the vomitting should be well gone at this stage.... I have to laugh :p

My wisdom tooth has decided to rear its ugly head, at all times when I'm 4 months pregnant :( left side of my face feels swollen and I can barely open my mouth. I didn't go to work today, no way I could teach when I can't open my mouth wide enough to be loud.
    The pain sucks :(

That's lousy pinkheels :( hope you get some relief soon. I had a molar pulled when I was 6 weeks and without pain relief or antibiotics it really is not fun at all.

Went shopping in town this weekend girls. Gap in Arnotts while they don't have a huge maternity section the stuff is nice and colourful and really quite cheap! Got a few long sleeved tops and jumpers and leggings :)

Ordered a dress from Tiffany Rose Saturday evening for my brothers wedding so hoping it will arrive soon and that it fits!!

Digs, just to let you know, if you register with GAP, they will send you a VIP email with 30% off everything this week only. :)

I bought some of their stripey long sleeve tops. Got a medium as thats my normal size but I think they're quite big..a size smaller would have worked better.

Oh that's great thanks YH! I think we may have bought the same clothes! I got a nice bright pink wrap top too. I agree about the sizing, very generous, went for medium myself, my mum was with me and was saying I might use the extra room in a while but for the moment the smalls would have been fine!

Had to be dragged out of the baby section..... too cute :)

Hi meggysmom, congrats on the great news. Where did you have the gender scan if you don't mind me asking? How far gone are you when you had the scan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭meggysmom

Hi LT I will private message you the name of scan place as not sure i'm allowed name clinic here!!I was 18 weeks 1 day when they did the scan, they will do it there from 18 weeks, the lady was lovely, spent loads of time looking at baby,we got about 15 different pics, she measured babys legs, belly and head.Showed a very detailed pic if the heart and 4 chambers and also very detailed pic of the face to see if everything was formed correctly. Also position of placenta and checked fluid around baby, she did gender 1st and kept referring back to it when she got good angles. We were given 100% accuracy and it was very noticeable to us too.She also went into 3d view to show us baby.they are still very skinny and kind of skeleton like this early on so she did'nt give us that pic but was nice to take a look on screen anyway.Very happy with them. Will pm you now clinic name:)

Congrats Meggysmom, it sounds like you had a lovely experience seeing your little girl :). From the beginning my husband and myself had said we weren't bothered about finding out the sex as it's our first baby. But, I don't know, since I began week 16 I'm starting to change my mind! I think I'm getting curious as I've had a few dreams about everything in the nursery being blue!!

We started sorting out the baby room....it's no longer called the spare room now :). My mam brought over my old cot, which she has been keeping for me, and wow, to see it in the room really kind of knocked me, and I stood there stunned for a few minutes looking at.

Still no bump really. I only really notice one when I'm lying flat on my back and it kind of sticks up :o Some of my jeans are getting a bit uncomfortable though and I started wearing the belly belt just to give me an extra few cms where the button fastens.

    Hope everyone is keeping well.

Oh could you please let me know how you find them! I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a wedding dress for when I'm 6-7 months gone, and it's so much more difficult because I would like a nice bright colour like blue rather than white or ivory. I was considering Tiffany Rose but was nervous about ordering online :)
