FAB! I love the long ones but will leave those to the brides :) Got a txt from DPD this morning saying it will be delivered between 1-4pm today, love their service. Now to restrain myself from trying it on in the work loos :p

They're lovely aren't they. Fear I won't do it as much justice as that model, next purchase maternity spanx :D

Holding - so the dress wasn't a success for me! Cannot fault the service though it arrived on time yesterday two days after it was despatched.

To me in the pic the dress looks like it's made of a kind of stiff lace, which it isn't it's the slip kind of dress with a flimsy sheet of lace overlaid. Also in the pic it's not obvious but there are no straps on the slip underneath, meaning you would have to wear a strapless bra or they would be blaringly obvious (no way you would get my E cup into a strapless)

I knew as soon as I put it on it wasn't right for me, it's very long and just made me look a bit frumpy! I brought it up to my mums to try on first and knew the second she looked at it it wasn't nice on me!!

Honestly this is just my opinion, dress cost 220E and there is no way I would pay that for a non maternity dress of similar making. The longer dresses could be a completely different story though so if you have time maybe you could order it and if it's not right it can go back....at least they have a good returns policy!

Oh also re sizing, I would be about a size 12, could get away with a 10 on the bottom but in dresses a 12 due to big boobs! A friend of mine had advised me they were generous sizing so I went with the 10-12 instead of the 12-14 which was a good fit!

Onto plan B for me.....wedding is in three weeks tomorrow....DEEP BREATHS!!!!!:eek:

Hi girls, well i'm back from my 1st consultants appointment. All well, did blood pressure, urine and went through history of last pregnancy and labour and that.I am very happy with him.A very nice man and very friendly so thats a plus:)He did a scan, which was fine, measurements of belly, head arms legs and heart. He couldn't see the feet as she wasn't playing ball today, they were tucked in to placenta.I had seen two feet at gender scan the other day so i'm not worried,he wants me to have another scan in the next month to confirm feet:)I am now so delighted I just had gender scan as I can imagine I would be a little worried otherwise but I have a lovely ultrasound pic from gender scan showing a perfect little foot.Back to him on the 20th december and gp in 3 weeks.

Congrats on your wedding digs-i'm sure you will be a beautiful bride:)

Lol yes mm I got married last year so unfort don't get to play the bride, its holdings big day soon!

Your consultants visit sounds great too, it's great you've got to see lots of baby, foots or no foots :) !! Mine is not until 18th December :( feels like forever away :( I'm going to the thyroid clinic in holles street tomo but doubt I'll get to see babs....

I caved and got a Doppler girls! Have been lying on the couch listening to mini me and the hb thumping away :) 148bpm :) its a little lower than I expected it to be, still just above my pelvic bone but not questioning it!!!

Ah Digs I had one of those with my last pregnancy,it wasn't a very good one and drove me a little bonkers.I must have thrown it out as it's nowhere to be found now.At my scan yesterday everything is still quiet low down also.Your uterus is about up to your belly button at 20 weeks so makes sense that baby is still low at this time.Heartbeat sounds perfect,it's lovely hearing it isn't it:)

Oh no sorry to hear about the dress Digs! It looked really fabulous and expensive in the pic. Would you try another dress from them, maybe a different style? I had a dress sent recently from Bumpalicious.co.uk - they are v reasonable and Amanda there is lovely. I didn't go for the dress in the end and sent it back, but that wasn't to do with the dress but with me!

    Thanks meggysmom!

I had my 16 week GP app day before yesterday, she suspects gestational diabetes, which sounds like a massive PITA tbh. Got to ring now and get the results from the blood tests. Hope it's a negative as I really don't want to cut down on all the toast I'm eating right now lol!

I haven't been keeping track of late sorry :o work as been hectic plus I have yet to turn that imagnary corner into 2nd tri and start to feel wonderful and look like some kind of goddess!! I still feel and look awful with not much of a bump to explain myself :D
Got hyperactive thyroid too which came back in the bloods, it's in the family so shdn't be too surprised but just hope it stays under control and won't need medicating. That's my update/rant! Only 16 wks now, so a bit to go before anatomy scan and we find out sex, but can't wait already!!
Hope you are all keeping well :)

Great news for me girls, the glucose levels in the blood sugar test came back fine. I still have to have another test in Feb but am okay for now. Celebrated by baking a cake! Lots of carbs and sugar there, lol!

I'm the same as you Chuchu, can't wait for gender scan!! Coming to the end of week 16 now and it seems miiiles away :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭Chuchu

Mmmmmmmm caaaakkkeeee. Must get some now!
You must be relieved, enjoy the cake :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

Ahhh relief holding, glad all is well! Hope you enjoyed some cake!

I had the funniest experience in Holles Street Friday (am still confused by it). At my booking apt almost 5 weeks ago I told the midwife I have an underactive thyroid I've been on meds for years for. A letter to attend the thyroid clinic followed for yest. So I turn up, am given my chart and then the midwife asks me what I am doing there. I explained I had gotten a letter to turn up. So she asked me to give a urine sample which was grand and then she said while you're here you may aswell see the gp. Waited around for a little bit, then in comes Dr Foley middle aged man, very abrupt but not in a rude way. Took my bp, looked at my bloods and said they were perfect, to stay on the meds as all well fine. He then said to leave quietly without telling anyone as I'd be waiting in the thyroid clinic for hours and they'd have me in every Friday needlessly knowing them! I couldn't stop laughing! He took a quick look at baby...so quick all I could make out was a head. Asked me when my scan was, which is in three weeks, he said all was grand and sent me on my way!!

Holding - I sent back the dress but not going to go with another one from them purely because of ordering online and time etc. I went to coast yesterday and got a fab dress. It's very fitted so will be all about the bump which I don't mind as I'd rather look preg than look like I am trying to hide something if ya get me!! Went for the size up from my norm which will hopefully be enough room for bump (unless I explode in the next 3 weeks) and can get the sides taken in a bit :) Pic of it here :)

Girls when are your first consultants apt? MM I know you've had yours.... mine isn't until the 18th December, I'll be 24 weeks by then which to me seems very late... all in all I think Holles Street just has me confused haha!

SORRY for the essay girls, the above looks like a whole load of word vomit!! :D

it seems to vary a lot,I met a girl I know at my consultation,I did not know she was pregnant, anyway turns out shes 22 weeks and it was her 1st consultation where as I was 18 weeks 5 days.I think it all has to do with there calenders really and once they see you in the second trimester they don't reslly care exactly how many weeks you are!!

Holding that's great news...don't know what i would do if i have to give up on bread and mashed spuds!

Digs, I had my first consultant's appointment at week 13, and won't see him again until week 20 (i'm 17 weeks now). Seems to really vary between hospitals/consultants. I'm going to Waterford Regional.

Anyone else having difficulty sleeping? I thought that once I got bigger I would find it harder to get comfortable, but it's happening already :(. Got a body sleep pillow thingy yesterday to try and ease pressure on my back as it's killing me of late.

On the positive side, I bought my first maternity top in H&M yesterday :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

Thanks girls. Kind of knew all hospitals were diff alright just interested to see the variation. I think I just find holles street a bit late with everything but I suppose they have a serious amount of patients!

Nead I was just saying to my mum I am finding nights getting slowly more difficult. I have been needing the loo a lot more in the second tri than the first so am thinking baby is resting on my bladder already as I am also feeling quite a bit of discomfort in that area. At night this means moving about is a bit uncomfortable. My bump is by no means huge but is growing nicely so I suppose it's only going to get worse!

Have you got a pregnancy pillow? My hubby got me one a few months back in Argos and I find it helps things by popping it between your legs, seems to take the pressure off :)

Edit to add: sorry I just read your post properly and see you got a pillow! Hopefully that will give you some relief :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭Nead21

Pregnancy pillow seems to be helping and has definitely relieved pressure off my back. It's quite long though and hubby is not too fond of it as it almost feels like a third person in our bed! He's just going to have to grin and bear it though, as a grumpy, sleep-deprived wife would be worse.

Yes digs,I got it at 16 weeks.I was just over a really rotton cold and couldn't imagine doing the flu especially while pregnant so went for it.Now I thought that being in the at risk group that it would be free but I paid 20 euro but maybe i just presumed wrong!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭Nead21

Also got the flu jab this year. It was free for me Meggysmom for the reason you said. Weird that you had to pay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭meggysmom

thats strange,i paid the nurse at my gp,I suppose I should have spoke up and asked why I had to pay?I go see my doctor in a couiple of weeks for routine visit, she's nice and easy to talk to so might ask her then why I had to pay!I don't have a medical card!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,163 ✭✭✭Nead21

That is weird, you would think it would be the same for everyone. My doctor gave me the injection and said it would be covered under the free antenatal GP visit scheme. I don't have a med. card either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,102 ✭✭✭Digs

Thanks for the replies girl although I am useless, complete baby brain and forgot to ask her :( and it was top of my list to ask :o

My hubby found out he is also Rhesus Negative, major fluke, so we thought happy days no probs with baby as the baby will have to be negative too. Doc reckons the hospital will make me have the anti D injection anyway as they can't just take our word on the paternity!!! She advised us to fight our case with the next consultants appointment which we will be doing. I really do NOT want that injection if there is no need!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭meggysmom

ah that is probably why i was charged the nurses fee,if I had gone when it was one of my appoitments with the doc I probably wouldn't have had to pay!
That's great re the blood results digs,I'm sure if you have a good consultant he will understand why you don't want something which you know to be unnessary!

Just got mine a few weeks ago - u def shouldn't have to pay anything! I got mine free and I was there on a non maternity visit - had to pay for visit with gp but the went into nurse for my free flu vac!

Anyone here have hyperthyroidism? Doc doing tests for me as she suspects it :( hopefully not that tho as from what I've read it can be dangerous for the baby. Find out on fri I think / just hate waiting for results!

16 weeks Tom - back in bits but getting semi regular kicks now so happy out!

Lol the more the merrier! Yay for kicks, you are flying along now DL :) I have been feeling such consistent thumps over the last few days I love it!!

I am hypothyroid so the opposite to you but same situation really. Once you are on meds there's nothing to worry about, you just get a little extra monitoring ;)

Stay off google, I made the mistake of having a look and put the fear of god in myself. Told my consultant and he said it is rare for anything to be wrong with babs and I'm doing more harm worrying about it!

Hopefully you're doc is wrong though and you wont have to give it a second thought :)

P.s my back and hips are in bits too. After a day in my uncomfy office chair it's unreal. Have put in an order for a back rest so hoping that will help!!

    Thanks digs :)
Hopefully it's nothing - but ur right google does not make for pleasant reading!!

The back pain is awful :( I can't decide if I'd rather be sitting or standing all day... I work in retail and have to stand for 9 hrs - dont usually get a proper sit down at lunch and I'm really suffering - but can imagine it totally cramping up if I was sitting all day too!! Hard to win!! I've a tilted pelvis and get it realigned once every couple weeks but it won't stay put as my muscles are in bits after the last pregnancy and suppose this one being so soon after didn't help! I worry about how bad it will get.... Need to find a good pregnancy Pilates class in Dublin! Think that might help!

Glad to hear ur hypothyroidism is behaving :)
