    Hi Folks
What is my best option to ( or is it possible ) to stream to an addtional tv
The old sky box had an RF out which I was able to run another cable to tv in the kitchen and watch the same channell that was on tv in living room
but as you know no RF out on amiko alien 2
what could I use to send picture to tv in kitchen now
I would like to be able to watch a different channell if possible
What about the google chromcast dongle or something like it anyone any ideas
    Thanks
    AA2 Hyperion 4 running great

I use an Android box on the second tele and stream from the AA to it.

The cheapest and easiest option would be to stream to a laptop using the web interface on your enigma2 image and then connect the laptop to the second TV with an HDMI cable (~€10).

I use a Raspberry Pi (miniature computer).. Here's a thread which talks about connecting one between your router and the second TV to stream channels from the Alien 2 plugged into the first TV. (~€60).

The most costly, but best solution, is to run another cable from your dish and buy a second box (~€250 - €300).

All these options will let you watch a different channel on the second tv provided you have two feeds going from your dish to the Alien2.

will have a look on fleabay see if theres a usb to hdmi adaptor
    Cheers

You could also consider a HDMI Android Stick. That can then run Dreamdroid and VLC and away you go. Look on eBay for an Equiso Smart Stick or some other Android HDMI stick

    Thanks for that Champ
just having a look on fleabay €55 is not too bad I suppose to get the tv sorted in the other room
Going to borrow one of the kids quad core tablet's which has a mini hdmi out as I have a cable that i bought for the video camera
I can plug in to the TV to test if the wifi is up to it streaming from the tablet
I also have a cat5 network point below the other tv as i put in network points in all the rooms a few years back so maybe theres a rj 45 version of that dongle ?
the Amiko is connected via the network point in the living room but im using a bog standard eircom dsl router which are not great but when i stream to the pc from the alien it looks good
    no jitter or lag

Thanks again to everyone for your tips & help

The TR 42 has a rj45. Nice little android receiver.

If I'm watching a stream on my laptop (sports event for example), is it possible to stream that to the Alien 2 to view on the TV?

I know I can use a HDMI cable but was wondering if it could be streamed to the box also.

Same as that with the sd/hd channels. Seems like a common issue.

Yep seemed to be fine though on the laptop only streaming from the android tab it was jittery
so would getting an android stick be any better or would the best bet be to buy another alien for the kitchen ?
    Cheers

Streaming can always be flaky over Wifi. If your Alien2 is connected to your router by network cable then running more cable from the router to a Pi or Android device connected to a second TV should give you rock solid picture on the second TV.

My box, with a version of hdmu enigma image, keeps the splash screen displayed always
Can see nothing else, even tho I can hear the tv channel

If anyone has any ideas, a quick fix would be nice :-)

Alternatively, anyone recommend a good image if I am to reinstall one?
And are PogMoThoins instructions still the best to drive me thru installing an image if i want my hand held?

In fairness, all the images from the lads here are great. Just depends on your favourite. If you look up give credit's image he has a step by step guide. Its for hyperion 4,but the same rules apply.

Forgive the ignorance, but whats hyperion 4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭mcbod

Any idea where I might find his image and guide? He seems to have about 1000 posts and the board for this box is 400 pages long :-(

Hyperion 4 is just a new image, just like hdmu is an image.

Fresh pots also has a hyperion 4 image. Use the "search this thread" bar and find the latest from give credit.

That Hyperion image from givecredit is excellent
    Nothing but improvements so far

Although I do have one question
My old HDMU image appeared to have extra entries in menu-system-network to define a network mount
I like to use mine to play media off my network but cant seem to define a network location for the media centre

    Any ideas?

    Most likely a skin issue.
Are you using the SKY skin ?
Try the default skin and see if the issue is resolved.

I will be uploading an updated HDMU image in the nest week if I get time.

    Hi guys

Anyone point me in the right direction-I'm looking to put the alien stb out of sight behind the tv and use something like the sky magic eye to control it with the remote.
Is it possible with these boxes? Thanks

You will need a tri-link to work with the magic eye. Not 100% sure on the setup, but a quick Google should put you right.
