All round, a very solid image. Fair play to the original makers and TheTechGuy for the backup.

Stating the obvious but make sure Samba is enabled. I had to turn it on on my setup.

    Back Again :

Done a video up last night ,

Added E2 Plugin the long way by loading a different version of Spark onto the box as I couldn't get the it to load the other way ,

One thing I wanted to cover but was unable to find it , If Im using a USB wifi dongle how do I search for a network using one ?

Cant seem to find it in network .

I don't think enigma works with usb wifi. U'll need some sort of Ethernet connection. Direct, mains plug or ethernet to wifi converter.

    No freezes, no HD glitch.
    HDD mounted automatically.
I was able to mount my NAS network drive with minimal fuss.
    Love the Sky skin.
Got Openwebif streaming to my laptop, my android TV box and my HTC phone (although I did have a glitching issue with the streaming. Next challenge is to get the box streaming on my LG Smart TV)

I haven't tried the Saorview yet so I cant comment on that.

I also havent been able to get the box to show up as a drive on my network, but I havent tried too hard at it.

Any probs with Saorview? I kept getting greenscreens trying to do scan. Went back to Dec version. Has this been updated since or is this the same image?

Forget previous, got it working, did a manual scan with the Mount Leinster frequencies & picked up Saorview without crashing. First impressions are impressive.

I just received a secondhand Amiko Alien 2 Triple Tuner box today, the courier gave it to my neighbour yesterday.
I am having problems finding any services when doing an auto scan for terrestrial stations for Saorview from Clermont Carn and also manually.
I tried 8 MHz and 722000000 but 0 services found.
I am completely new to this box. It seems to be running the Enigma image.
Aerial with booster is working fine with my Humax box.
Connected to the Amiko at the Antenna In.
I presume that the Amiko works independently without connecting the satellite input also.
    Please help! :(

Either do complete scan or enter these frequencies Digital Television
    Frequency UHF kW Multiplex
    722 MHz 52 160 Saorview (Mux 1)
    754 MHz 56 160 Saorview (Mux 2)
    (Just got from wiki)

You need to edit the oscam.config file to allow access from your lan subnet

Which enigma2 image are you running? There is lots of them! Is it champions or my image? If it's champs image a lot of people are having problems tuning in a second mux. I prefer champs image for speed but I had to give up and go back to Hyperion 3 when I couldn't get all the saorview channels.

I have absolutely no idea yet to be honest.
I bought it on ebay in the UK.
I haven't changed anthing since I received it.
I am a Virgin to these Linux boxes.
I will check in a while.
What does 5H4 GIT on the front display of the box mean please?
    Anybody?
I cannot get any services from Saorview to scan in but the satellite stations are all coming up in a list in the auto scan.

Right, I left the box on last night and went to work this morning. When I came home I went to change channel and got a green screen.

Now all the bouquets except Favourites are gone, as in I have no Movies, Sports groups.

Has this ever happened anyone? Very strange indeed.

Im using Techguys backup by the way.

I tried to turn mine on last week and got stuck in a green screen loop.
No idea what happened but I ended up re flashing the image and starting from scratch.
If this happens again the wife will want sky back. I put it down to the continuous power cycles when I'm stuck in what appears to be deep standby most days. Will try a couple of images this weekend.

What would people recommend as the most rock solid stable of all, yet containing the usual plugins?

Is the january one here more stable than the December and will they both flash on my Gm spark triplex?

Feck it anyway, I just did a factory reset.
    It has Enigma 2 installed.
I will try to scan stations soon.
This box is beginning to wreck my head.

    Hi TheTechGuy

I'm installed your Hyperion 3 image.

Your image defaults to a streaming bouquet. This is causing me an issue as i don't have an aerial attached for Saorview channels. I am presented with a 'tune failed' message. I cannot process any further than this message.

How might i change the default bouquet on boot up?

    TIA

My image is set up so rte1 is the startup channel. This is in favourites not streaming (I think champs image is set to the streaming bouquet). Anyway to change the start up channel just go to whatever channel you want in the bouquets and press menu and then set as startup channel.

I still haven't had any luck scanning in Saorview stations either manually or automatically.
Any idea of what is wrong please?

Have u tried go into spark & load one of the images attached on forum ie hyperian V3 or AR-P?
    Then retry scan.
Or even try thru Spark to see are u picking up saorview.

Sorry to sound stupid but how exactly do I do all this please?

    Thanks. :)
Fifty seven percent of the way through the satellite scan now by the way.
When the services are found where are they?
I haven't got round to connecting any external hard drive yet.
Where are the sat channels stored after finishing a scan? Where can I find the list of channels? Are they automatically stored?
    In a bouquet?

Hi Folks. Have to say a big thank you to folks on this thread. Especially those who have answered questions all along the way. I got myself a box just before christmas, and have been messing with it since. After the initial set up, I went back through this thread, and got answers to questions I before i had a chance to ask.
Have tried several images , but have settled on the PKT Hyperion3 (used a back up from another forum), with the usual plugins. very stable. timeshift is smooth (timeshift activated through user interface, not permanent timeshift plugin), as is recording and viewing simultaneously (which are critical features to gain approval in my house).(would recommend it to yllw.ldbttr above).

I am trying to create a shortcut to the timer list. I have tried editing the keymap.xml but not getting it right. has anyone successful manually added a shortcut? (used the multibutton plugin, but it was causing an issue with timeshift, and don't like the way it pops up, if a function hasnt been assigned, eg long press on f3 button).

Also have folks being using the VU+ app? (i find it pretty good. like the handy streaming feature.) However, I haven't been able to get it to work when on on my home network. I would like to be able to set timers when away from home. or can i do this another way?

Anyway just wanted to thank folks for their efforts.

@slevster, I use dreamdroid for setting recordings when I am away from my home network, once you config your router it works a treat.

I got the UK FTA channels to work no problem with Cross EPG, now just Saorview then Freeview from Divis after a new aerial install.
I cannot scan in any Saorview stations after tuner configuration.
I take it that in order to receive terrestrial stations I will have to use different images such as mentioned a few posts back by bigwexfordfan and a USB stick to load/flash it in to the Amiko?

Just reading a few posts about ARP issues. I'm using ARP and have to say its working perfectly (apart from deep standby issue). I used Champs image from early Dec and tinkered with it a little. Saorview scans perfectly, media player plays AVI and MKV files, no green screen when you press menu in Cooltv Guide, OSCAM working. As for standby issue I find if you press the power button, wait about 30 secs and the box will boot up and on to a channel but TV will wont recognise this and stays blank. But if you hit power button again, wait a few secs and press it again it comes on fine.

I've made a backup of my image if anyone wants to give it a go and see if it works.

    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/d4ftz9fzby6xzrt/RoqO22DjbD

    Things to note:
    1) I used my own custom skin for Cooltv Guide (herself didn't like all the black!). Just uninstall and reinstall plugin if you don't like it.
    2) For the sake of the back up I turned off auto/permanent timeshift. Just go to menu-setup-system-user interface to enable
    3) Res set to 720p
    4) Keymap is my own edited one. Not much different apart from left/right buttons rewind/forward live TV. Go to menu-setup-system-keymap if you want to go back to the 'standard e2' keymap
    5) I removed a few plugins including TSMedia
    6) Channels are in my custom order. Just use Autobouquets to rearrange
    7) Channels in Saorview bouquet are tuned to Kippure mast.

@slevster, I use dreamdroid for setting recordings when I am away from my home network, once you config your router it works a treat.

I'm wondering if i can set this up at home.

    My set up is as follows;

I've a powerline from my router to my living room. In my living room, my powerline then goes into an unmanaged switch(i.e. one of these). The switch is then connected to my STB, my TV and a Raspberry Pi.

Basically i don't have any static IP addressing going on. Is using dreamdroid from outside my home network impossible becase i'm using a switch?

The STB, TV and Pi are left on all the time (TV and STB on stand by) if that makes a difference. The Pi and the STB have different ip address's (.23 & .26) without any interference from me, i don't know the ip address of the tv as i'm not at home at the moment.

I've tried to include everything that i think you might need to know to decide if i could use dreamdroid when not at home, do you think it would be possible?

Also, I tried installing dreamdroid on my Nexus 4 running kit kat but it wouldn't install, i think this might be done to me using ART runtime. I'll try installing it on a tablet i have when i get home.

    TIA

    ...

    Short answer, yes.
Long answer, you've a bit of config to do.

If you don't have a static external ip then you'd need something to map your external ip address to a URL, there are many free and some pay services (20 usd per year max) that will do it. I use dyn Dns because I have a number of other devices in the house that i like to access remotely, such as ip cameras etc.

Secondly, it will be a lot easier if your box is also on a fixed internal ip address, just choose something outside of the usual allocated range and switch off DHCP.

Thirdly, you'll need a rule on your router to allow traffic into your network, setup port forwarding on your router. This allows your router to see your request for externalip:port and knows to send it to internalip etc...

Give your satellite box a static ip (outside the dhcp pool) then forward the web interface port on your router to that ip. A dumb network switch doesn't do anything except extend your network to extra devices, your router handles everything.

Also, try the VU+ app, it's works just the same (better as it had an inbuilt media player that allows you to browse through the bouquet list and select another channel while streaming
