I tried that but it would not install the IPK so i used 7zip to unzip it and ftp'd the files accross.

The plugin now appears in the menu but if clicked crashes the box with the green screen.

My Guide is working now but you cant change any settings as if you try it crashes you can just use it as is...

Im going to try delete all the files tonight as it just got to late last night and try the OE 1.6 Images (mipsel.ipkg)(older Version) and see if there is a difference..

    I used the OE 2.0 Images like - OE-Core, OE 2.0, PLi 3.0, Dream OE 2.0 (mips32el.ipkg) last night as i assumed AR-P was a newer install.

Hopefully thats all it is now

Just wondering did you get this sorted as I am now in the exact same position. Installed championc's new open ar-p and cooltvguide just didn't work. I deleted the original cooltvguide files in the image and reinstalled the latest version. Now I have cooltvguide working but like you when I try to change the settings it causes a green screen.

Its my first post on this thread so just want to say thanks to everyone here for providing such great info especially to those like championc who provide great images for us to use. I'm fairly new to all this stuff having only recently ditched the sky subscription and have done most of my learning through reading this thread.

I believe that a new Official version of AR-P is close to release. However, if someone wants to give it a go, here's a link to download the latest Un-official image - an image with absolutely Nothing done to it.

    https://code.google.com/p/meta-openarp/downloads/detail?name=OpenAR-P_OE2.0_211_alien2_epl3-git-22-12-13_v2013-03-31-425-g1c691df.zip

EDIT: Liking it. Samba working again - seriously missed it on last un-official one. Lots more plugins available for online download.

EDIT2: Looking pretty good. Have completed an Image now (see the Firmware thread for full details - http://goo.gl/2DuVm0). I've been rebooting over and over several times yesterday no problems so I hope it will be problem free for everyone else too this time !!

Guys, Hi. If it's not too much hassle, I was wondering if anyone running champions' image could zip a copy of the bouquets. I'm specifically looking for the SD streaming bouquet. Testing live TV aspect of XBMC setup(on the Pi). So far so good!

Has anyone here had tune failed issues with certain satellite channels like Sky Living +1, RTE2 ,Eden +1, and Nat Geo +1 ?
A friend of mine bought a receiver lately and he is having issues with these channels and I'm wondering if its a fault with the tuner as the signal from the dish is good and worked fine with a previous dreambox receiver.

I'm just getting around to trying to retune transponders for AlJazeera and Euronews, which are 12663 H but the spark astra2 28.2 list only goes up to 12000.

I definitely had them before until about Halloween.
I have decent quality reception on badr 26E bird which lists highwer transponders, should I scan on that?

Or should I just get enigma going at the risk of Mrs C not havig any telly for an evening?

Added to my Dropbox. Just Import it into DreamBoxEdit and Upload it into your box

Hey champ am currently running your pkteam hiperion v2 image. What are the main advantages in going for the ar-p over the former?

I find the epg a bit slow on Hyperion and a few green screen annoyances so any improvement would be good. Any screenshots available?

Just wondering is there any way I can change the default bouquet & channel on rebooting the machine? At the moment when it reboots it loads up a bouquet that I don't use at all. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭championc

Change to the bouquet and channel you want, then do a RESTART from the Standby / Restart Menu. Turning it off and on will not set it.

Go to a channel you wish to use as your startup channel ,bring up bouquet list, highlight channel in it,then press menu and select set as startup channel ,the receiver will always boot to this channel then.

Does anyone know of any way to specify a time after which the box goes from Standby to Deep Sleep ?

Yes, the deepstandby plugin, it's in plugins in Hyperion V2, not sure if you have it in what you're running now

Those channels have changed frequency so its not a tuner issue as such.

In my case the channels are tuned in correctly but they lose signal after watching them for a period of time.Tune failed comes up and the signal snr is 0%.

    Champ,

You know the way your new image defaults to 720p, can this be changed to 1080p or is it not something that is recommended? I'm gonna lash this on my box this evening and the tv is capable of 1080p. No biggie if it can't, i'm just curious.

    TIA

The setting is to have the image usable on most of the tv sets, not all of them support 1080

    Happy New year everyone,
I've got hyperion 3 installed, anyone know how to get the clock on the lcd display to display the right time? Also when i'm using timeshift pressing rewind makes the channel skip back to the last one viewed not rewind.
    Thanks.

I'm getting the following message when trying to use permanent timeshift.

I've installed championc's latest arp backup image.

    [Removed Image]

I haven't done any mucking around with the settings, I've just plugged my hard disk which i used on the Hyperion 2 image into the box after flashing the new image.

Any ideas? Do i need format the HDD again?

I should add that I've no problem saving a recording to the HDD, just using it with timeshift.

I don't use TimeShift myself but from past images, I believe it should be ok. You have turned in On - Yes ? I turned it Off by default.

    Yup that fixed it cheers

Okay, I bit the bullet and bought 2 of these Alien 2+ boxes, thanks to UPC for making the decision easier !

I'm going to install championc's Enigma 2 firmware soon, looks great to a satellite newbie like me with the factory Spark 2 image.

I haven't bought a Kingston USB flash drive yet.

    So my question(s) are
    1. Is an 8Gb usb flash disk large enough to flash the image ?

    2. Do people leave a usb flash drive permanently in their Alien 2, eg. for the CrossEPG daily data download or for other plugins storage ? I plan on using a separate external hard for PVR/timeshifting data.

    regards,
    CD

1 Flash images are very roughly 125Mb
    2. Your recording HDD will also do for EPG data etc. CrossEPG can be configured to download nightly.

    The factory Spark 2 image?

Contrary to popular belief, lots of different usb keys work just fine on the Alien2 box. If you have any around the house, try them out first before spending more money.

    My mistake, Spark version 1.
As a software developer I automatically clicked "update software" on the box and it's now as "1.2.69".
Although now I realise it's safer to downgrade that to install championc's version.

Thanks, there's Kingston 8Gb flash drives for under €6, so I've just gone for them for simple non-DVR/PVR storage.
