So...anyone going to see Pacific Rim this week?

I'll be seeing it the week after.
Looks like a triumph of spectacle over characters though, so Del Toro has done a Bay it seems, but with 100% less Shia, which can only be a good thing.

Well, from what I've heard, there's a lot hidden from what the trailers offered, so don't expect anything just yet.

Well Holywood has been one gigantic disappointment after another lately so I'm not terribly hopeful about it.

    Kanye says it's good, though.

    Kojima too!

Great 'point and click' Google Doodle today!

I only just now realised it's a remake of ET on the Atari 2600!

So...anyone going to see Pacific Rim this week?

Oh yeah...Giant Mechs and Monsters, what can go wrong!

The summer blockbusters have all been a big disappointment so far this year, so I'm banking on this one to impress me.

I already have a bad feeling about The Wolverine

All I want from this movie is to see giant robots punch and be punched by giant monsters. A film like this doesn't need a decent story if it can deliver on the above.

Transformers tried to marry great action and great storytelling but failed on both fronts, thrice.

Wolverine doesnt look great from the trailers, hoping its not another wolverine origins!

I was disappointed with man of steel, iron man 3 and wasn't overly impressed with star trek2 though it wasn't too bad. Hoping Pacific Rim is good, it looks cool but my non-nerd friends don't get it at all, i have a feeling it might not be successful because the average joe wont bother with it until dvd.

Watched GIJOE 2 Last night, pants. The budget was sliced big time for that film compared to the first. Fast and Furious 6 was terrible, i know most of them are pretty bad but i actually loved the 5th one.. thought it was a great heist film. The acting was brutal and dont get me started on
the longest airport runway in history at the end or flying vin diesel!

Personally, I cant wait to see the new Riddick film. love that character, plus karl urban and starbuck.. has to be great right?

The best film ive seen in a while is Dredd, love that film, it reminds me of the original pitch black. a film you were not expecting much from that just blows you away. The last few years all the blockbuster films had the same ending, big battle in a big city. ie Transformers3, Avengers, Man of Steel all end with city destroying battles!

    Anyways, rant over. :pac:

    +1 for Dredd

Pity it came out along with the raid and both of them got a bit shafted because they are both great films!

I haven't seen Dredd but I did see and enjoy The Raid.

    I really liked how The Raid was upfront with what it wanted to be and stuck to it's strengths with all out action. The plot was simply;

"Alright you gang of 50 lads let's go into this building and get that Drug lord or whatever... (5minutes later)... Oh no 45 or so of you are dead and we're stuck in this building full of murders. We better spend the next 85 minutes fighting our way out."

Did you not see Despicable Me 2 yet? It was fantastic

I'm in the minority but I thought the Raid was boring as hell. Ridiculous action sequences - martial arts type films need to be remotely believable to be enjoyable imo. Dredd was cool though.

The cinema near us was sold out so we went across town to see it, definitely worth it. Didn't think it'd be half as good as the first one but it totally was (needs more Farrell though)

Dredd was by far my favourite film of the year. I've watched it several times since and it never gets old :)

Just such a shame they didn't make enough for a sequel!

Went to see this last week, and it's just as much fun as the first one. I laughed from beginning to end.

Anyone see Behind the Candelabra? Absolutely loved it. One of the best roles I've seen Michael Douglas in, ever. Kept having to remind myself it was him.

I heard good things about his performance alright. Pity it wont be eligible for oscar consideration.

Just reading about this now. Didn't realize there was no US cinema release. Looks like it was 'too gay' and might have 'offended audiences'.

I find that in itself offensive tbh.

Definitely worth a watch. If you can handle 'offensive gayness' that is :pac:

Have you seen the Wonder Boys? He's very good in that as well.

Still find it hard to separate The Raid from the experience of watching The Raid in a crowded cinema. I do think the action is brilliantly directed at times, but the rush and widespread giddiness in that cinema one February morning last year was something else. The atmosphere was just electric. Afraid to watch it again - that experience more than suffices!

But then again I'm in the minority who thought Dredd was boring as hell :pac:

    GTFO! :P

Did you see it in the cinema? Fair better than The Raid. The Raid was fun for a bit, but got boring fast.
