AvP made a passable effort at reproducing an excellent comic book series on screen, I don't seem to meet many who have read the comic unfortunately, and most think me mad...

    You're mad!!!

Fun fact, the Capcom Alien Versus Predator CPS2 game was to be an off-shoot of a film which never materialized in the end. I wonder would it have been any better than the crap we got instead. I'd like to think it would have been :)

I read a few of the comics. The AVP films were just pish.

I was expecting a film that made some sort of sense. What I got was absolute nonsense which featured Hollywood's least convincing scientists since sigorney weaver abused a micro pipette in Avatar.

I think you're looking for credible, intelligent science fiction in the wrong places :pac:

Get this man 50ccs of Upstream Colour, stat!

That said. Id still probably rewatch Prometheus over 90% of other blockbusters. Dumb as hell at times, but there were intriguing themes and ideas bubbling underneath the pretty surface. It tried so hard in some regards, and just fell flat on its face in others.

    .

Retr0 asks for a film which isn't absolute nonsense, and you give him this :pac:

Where to begin? Well, it's very possible that Upstream Colour has a very interesting premise. I can't really confirm this though because quite frankly this is one incomprehensible movie. It starts out fairly intriguing to be fair, with a woman abducted by a man who implants a modified maggot into her. This leaves her in some way under his control and he proceeds to get her to give all of her money to him. Another man pitches up and transfers her internal maggot into a pig. It appears that he has a group of pigs that are all connected to different people who have suffered a similar fate. Anyway, the girl has no memory of her ordeal and soon she meets a man who it turns out was also a victim of the same ordeal. It's at this point that the film goes rapidly downhill.

Upstream Colour is one of those movies where things are certainly not spelled out to the audience. This in itself is not a criticism; it's often laudable in actual fact. But equally this in and of itself is does not necessarily mean a film should be praised. This movie lost me mainly because of the alienating presentation, it was impossible to empathise with the characters and the constant ambient soundtrack humming in the background only added to the detachment. The tone of the movie is more or less a flat line – beyond the interesting opening the story hums along in a one pitch manner. The dialogue scenes between the two central protagonists are very unengaging, bordering on tedious. Visually there were things of interest and its ambiguity was compelling to an extent but overall this one left me very cold.

I particularly like this review :D

Stupid, boring, new age crap, and the music was extremely annoying like fingernails on a chalkboard. I love a good suspense movie like Matrix and Children of Men, but this movie did not deserve a high score at all. Nothing made sense from start to finish and there was no plot. I didn't understand the ending. Or the beginning and middle either.

Prometheus like pretty much all Hollywood films now seems to have had special effects scenes made and worked out before they slapped together a script to try and hold it all together.

Nothing out of Hollywood makes a damn bit of sense anymore, the plots are all over the place and have no internal consistency.

Man of Steel was probably the worst case of this... We can accept the idea of Superman having superpowers on Earth, why waste a huge chunk of the film on trying to needlessly complicate things and then have things end up not holding up to any kind of scrutiny.

I went to see 'This Is the End' last night... it's a pretty damn stupid film, but it made more sense than anything I've seen out of Hollywood in the past year and I certainly couldn't fault it's internal logic. I enjoyed it a lot as a result.

    Finished Last of Us.

Turns out you do actually have to press 'X' to jump at just that one point in the entire game. Horrible design!

Oh and I think the ending has more of an impact on people who
are actually conflicted about the way things go. I didn't feel any such conflict so just saw it as a good ending.

I expected 'This is the end' to be mildly funny, but I was pleasantly surprised at just how much it made me laugh! Yes it's ridiculous, but it knows that it is, so it just rolls with it!

I hope not years, but you never know with these things.

One of the things they're working on for the retail version is positional tracking. At the moment you can look all around you but you can't 'lean in' closer for example.

Have my computer loaded with loads of demos made in the Unity engine for it. One is even a VR cinema, in which you can walk around, find a seat, sit down and watch a film :D

Half Life 2 also now have a VR option in steam. Hope my laptop has the grunt to run it!

Yep went to see it at the Japanese festival a while back

Very well made and i would recommend viewing (Although i did spend a lot of time pointing out the plot holes afterwards)

    You rrrraannnnnggggg?

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Plenty of people here saw it when it was screening in Dublin a few months back. Can't imagine anyone who likes Ace Attorney would dislike it.

Still have to track down Miike's Yakuza adaptation actually. Meant to be mental. Probably the most wildly schizophrenic director in cinema today.

That was added by Alexander O Smith for the localisation. She wasn't obsessed with burgers in the japanese version.
