I'm sure you have lots of things to do but getting the car back is the most important thing I thought.

    Can I ask you something?

why is there a need for a detective to investigate this?
what is stopping them from going out and detaining the car for TE as is the norm?

    What is TE?
I'm not sure why there is a detective, they may be trying to detect something:cool:
but i'd say the Gardai won't take to kindly to me telling them their job.
Suppose Op, if you can show this much patience, the rest of us will have to as well.
    Good luck with it.

It is not but you will find out when i get it back

    TE is Technically Examined.
I think gardai in uniform are capable of detecting crime as well.

Been following this thread guys. Can't believe this is taking so long.

Another example scenario of retrieving a stolen vehicle, except from the other side of the fence!

Person I know bought a car privately, did all their checks on Cartell (that it wasn't financed) & checked with a Main Dealer (that it had no damage history, mileage checked out, etc.). Went ahead & bought the car. Turns out it was stolen about 10 days previously from a petrol station whilst somebody was paying for their petrol. It changed hands from the thief to another person. This person only paid half the value of the vehicle but has all along claimed his innocence in buying a stolen vehicle. He sold the vehicle to my friend for the full value so straight away he was up half the proceeds for turning over the stolen car. He was arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods. He only had half the proceeds of the sale left by the time the Gardai arrested him (paid off bills with the other half) but a Judge would not award this in favour of my friend (who was majorly down financially at this point) to soften the blow. It's still before the Courts.

My friend had their vehicle impounded within 3 days of the Gardai calling to their house. It was taken away for Technical Examination. She is still paying off a car that she only drove for a few days & will be for the next few years.

Cartell have a disclaimer at the bottom of their website which states in effect they don't stand over their searches. Cartell gave out wrong information but she doesn't have a case against them. The Gardai never put the car up on the stolen vehicle register. The Dept. of Transport in Shannon didn't know the vehicle was stolen so processed the log book as normal when my friend signed as being the new owner. The only way the change of ownership was actually detected was the original owner calling to his local tax office to tax another vehicle in the household & he asked the lady on the counter to check if there was any movement on the stolen vehicle, i.e., had it been re-registered with them yet. It brought up a new owner (my friend) so from there the original owner alerted the Gardai.

Another typical example of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing.....

AFAIK Cartel and similar companies link to an insurance database of stolen cars not pulse the garda system.

The OP is a prime example of how this system falls down.

His car was not insured, therefore no insurance claim, so it won't be picked up in Cartel as stolen.

How did they have the logbook to sign? Was it in the car or a forged logbook?

Ye, logbook was in the dash board pocket.

Have been following the thread out of interest in the outcome.
Glad to see that you'll be getting your car back Frynge.

We are gonna need proof that the photos u put up are of the genuine article so a copy of today Irish Times or Indo will need to be in clear view showing the date, like the films when someone gets kidnapped(carnapped)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭romperstomper

a summary of how you got it back would be appreciated. 26 pages is FAR too much noise to wade through trying to figure out how you got it back!

    all the same, well done!

also, is there any follow to the recovery? a charge of receiving stolen goods etc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,752 ✭✭✭cyrusdvirus

OK...... opening a book on what the car is.

1990 Nissan Micra, in White, 5-1 ON favourite
1991 Ford Fiesta with Fido Dido sticker, 2-1
    1973 Ford Capri,3-1
    2003 BMW318i with M badge, but no M-car, 7-2

any requests for other cars and odds send them in

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,189 ✭✭✭scotchy

Do you remember what millage was on the car when it was stolen?

Just curious to know if some scrote has been driving around in it all this time.

    None.

    That's because it's a Fiat Seicento Sporting.

    In yellow. :D:D

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Standard Toaster, We'll go a LATE model metro... round abouts 95 or so... I'll give ya 4-1 on that.

Escort RS.....100-1.....no one would go to this much trouble for one of them!!! :p

Fiat siecento sporting in yellow.....That's a tight call,. gotta be 2-1
