Utv live tonight spent 15 minutes talking about policing and the need for recruitment.

Oddly enough its the initial test that bothers me the most! My maths isn't great, I know i can do a bit better in the AC but if the IST pass mark increases then I'm up the creek!
I know the feeling, my verbal and numerical reasoning are fine, and I have never struggled with any other verbal or numerical test, but I find its tough enough as I spend too long working through it and run out of time.

Here's a link to the two videos from last nights report on the psni and the need to recruit.

Lets hope they don't bring in the two A levels minimum ( Pre entry requirement) like they have over here in TVP ..
It's ruined some people's lives / plans by doing that

hopefully not! Someone along the line said that the standard of some peoples written English was terrible in the past and that it could/should be a requirement to have at least a (insert grade here) in English.

to be honest though I think that they wont ask for that- whats the reason for tvps request? does the IST not whittle the numbers down enough already?

    Gentleman,

Been following this thread since learned that the psni is hiring once again.

I was successful in the process back in 2006 but my personal situation changed and i moved out here to niagara, canada. Currently Police Officer here in Niagara Falls but unfortunately sometimes just cant supress the desire to move back home. Now the PSNI is hiring hopefully i will have a chance to come back.

I don't believe i qualify for a transfer since I'm trained on Canadian Law which is slightly different. So will have to go through the process again.

Just from reading all the comments I am assuming that there will no longer be an outside recruitment company doing the work??

Trying to get all the info from all my family and friends etc still with the PSNI but liking all the snippets of information coming from you guys. Hopefully it will all commence soon!

Will this apply to you -

If a candidate has recently resided abroad and does not have a three year checkable criminal record history, they will be unable to be vetted and their application will not be processed further.

No i dont believe so as you can easily check a criminal record from here. The same thing had to be done when i joined here. They did all my background and applied for a criminal check for when i lived back home.

Fair enough. From memory I think a few people in your position had a long wait for vetting to clear due having to wait for information being returned to the PSNI.

Matt Baggott says he needs 300 more police officers.

Report says MB is after 300 new recruits and a major rise in the PSNI budget.

PSNI hope to recruit some experienced officers.

He intends to launch a new recruitment campaign after a 3 year freeze. Up to 200 new officers could be recruited this year.

The force is due to lose a large number of officers due to retirement.

PSNI source "officers are exhausted with the amount of work they've been doing over the past few months. A piece of elastic can only stretch so far."

Senior officers will brief the policing board tomorrow on the need for extra man power.

MB will have a full policing board meeting next week.

Any thoughts on when the recruitment campaign for new officers may start?

I think the transferee applications opened mid Jan and were running
    till some date in Feb.

I have not heard an exact date as yet.

Tranferes had to apply by 10/01/13.

There is never a high turn out for transfers, and a lot that do apply, return to the mainland. Anyway they are looking for specialised people to transfer, not for joe blogs first response officers. I dont believe the numbers that transfer will affect the new numbers they recruit.

Thanks for all that good info.

    Guess just watch and wait.

This will be my first time applying (mid-life change of career)
So I hope they don't mind a few grey hairs!

This will be something like my sixth go (Ive lost count).

Trust me you will have a few more grey hairs by the end of this process. You will be like a silver fox.

Wow - you must have been through all known emotions with the recruitment during that time!

Although this is my first application with PSNI, I did apply for Sussex when I was still at school and went through their procedure. They told me to come back in a years time when I was older- that was in 1987! so I guess I have grown up a bit since!

It's terribly selfish of me to say this, but I wouldn't mind if they did, though in all honesty I think it would be pointless.

This place is very quiet, especially given the media attention psni recruitment gas had this week.

Mods are quiet too - I hope applications are quiet!

How many applications would you imagine there will be?

I would guess it will get busy once a campaign is released, with people looking for informantion sources.

As for apps - I was wondering this myself.

Part of me says numbers will be up due to unemployment rates, but then I think people will be put off due to the threats they will face and the increase in those threats in recent times.

So maybe these two things will even themselves out and numbers will be the same as the last campaign. Time will tell.

Hard to say, I hope there are less applicants for obvious reasons, but I genuinely wish that people wouldn't apply unless they have seriously considered if the job suits them and that it is really what they want to do.

I hate the thought of people just applying because they are out of work or because it is a decent starting salary or just to pay off the student loan. I really hope that the threat level sorts out those who really really want in and those who would make spurious applications for any other reason.

Will anyone else be surprised if the recruitment process changes much? I doubt it will change a great deal to be honest.

I hope so - I think the process as it was is rubbish quite frankly. My number one complaint about it would have to be the lack of an interview.

What do you think might be different?

I'm preparing myself for this coming recruitment drive by looking at what each stage of recruitment entails. Hopefully they don't change the format too much. It will be my first crack at trying to get in and I already find myself checking this forum anytime I'm near a computer to check for updates.:)

Are we sure that the recruitment will be done by the PSNI themselves or will it still be with outside agency?

    It's always an outside agency.
