    Wednesday 03rd September

5 miles in about 44 mins

My watch was acting the mickey today and I couldnt get a satellite for the first 2 miles so I switched it off. Good thing today was just an easy recovery run. No aches, pains or niggles after the race last night so all is good.

Is that not the idea for the next one?:D
Nice report there wowzer. Great to beat the work mates too!

    Thursday 4th September

    8.86 miles avg pace 7.18

I was a little unsure of what to do today after racing on Tuesday as today is generally my tempo day. I wanted to do something quicker than easy but not tempo so I decided on MP, not that I'm doing a marathon but if I was I'd be hoping to go for 3.10 so somewhere around 7.15 to 7.20 pace was my target.

Set off on the same route as last Thursday, up the quays to conyngham road, into park at chapelizod, up the hill, onto furze to Chesterfield and back up the quays.

It's was ridiculously warm and humid out there at noon today so it made the run feel a little tougher than it should. Same as last week I tried to leg it up the hill in prep for the half. That mile came in at 6.59 so a good effort there. All in all it was a fairly handy run apart from the heat.

Definitely wasn't just you who found that today. Give me a crisp cold day and I'm happy as a pig in 5hite.

    Friday 5th September

    8.26 miles avg pace 7.23

Another early start had me out the door at 6.30, perfect running conditions this morning. The air was crisp, it was misty and there wasn't a puff of wind. These morning runs to work usually take me mile or so to get into my stride but today I was good to go right from the start.

I had my ipod on listening to music and didn't realise I was going too quick for this to be classed as an easy run. By the time I looked at my watch I was almost 5 miles in so just said feck it and continued on. I don't use the ipod too often when running but when I do this usually happens.

It was a very enjoyable run, slowly but surely I'm feeling my mojo coming back and I'm beginning to feel the love for running again.

Well done on the 18:36. Really impressive time. On that performance McMillan has you at 38:38 for a 10K, that's some progress since Fingal. No surprise you've getting your mojo back.

Cheers OFAR, I looked at mcmillan yesterday and I must admit I felt a bit gutted I didn't enter the lakes 10k to run with you lot as it was originally my plan.

The sub 40 can wait, chances are I won't race a 10k until next year so by that stage hopefully the sub40 will be a formality.

    Saturday 6th September

    15.07 miles avg pace 8.24

Usually do my long run on a Sunday but circumstances meant in order to have company I would have to do it today.

Lovely morning for in the park, it got quite warm towards the end. Nothing much to say about the run itself.

Running today works out better for me as now it means I can have a few drinks watching the boxing tonight :)

It will be great for irish boxing if frampton can hold on here. As a fight it's disappointing so far I really didn't expect it to be so one sided.

As a contest its very one sided so far alright, Frampton is very dominant. Would be great for Irish boxing if he holds on. McGuigan has him in some shape.

Frampton was very good tonight, Kiko took a lot of punishment.

He was totally superior in every sense, great to see. Martinez had no answer to him at all.

He's a great fighter a fantastic boxer, puncher, great chin and endurance. He has it all really.
Kiko is a tough little bull and was very brave tonight but Carl was just too good.

Far bigger fights in him than Quigg, no?? I know he wants to teach Quigg a lesson but hes a step or two better than him.

Can't disagree with anything you said there meno. Exciting times ahead for the lad and boxing fans in Ireland.

Absolutely there are better fights than Quigg, but probably not bigger.
He'll make plenty of money V Quigg as it will sell well. However probably the second best boxer in the world (behind Mayweather) is also in his weight division (Rigondeaux). No-one is interested in fighting Rigondeaux though. He doesn't sell tickets and he will make you look silly so it's a lose-lose but if Carl wants to be considered the best in his division he'll have to fight him at some stage...

    Monday 08th September

    5.15 miles avg pace 8.14

This was supposed to be a nice easy run, but fcuk me it felt like an awful slog. From the first step I couldn't wait to for it to be over. I spent 6 weeks cleaning up my diet and have been fairly strict so this weekend I said I'll treat myself. A weekend of pure gluttony ensued and I enjoyed every bit of it. It has openend my eyes a bit though and shown me how bad food choices and booze can affect my running.

I'm kind of stuck at the moment regarding training as I have 12 days to the half marathon and i dont know what to be doing between now and then.

    Tuesday 9th September

    7.19 miles avg pace 6.49

As I said yesterday I'm kind of at a point in training where I don't know what to be doing. I did a bit of reading last night regarding the half marathon and a lot of things I read suggest doing the last hard workout about 10 days beforehand.

With my eldest lad getting his junior cert results tomorrow I can't be sure I'll get out for a run so I decided it would be a good idea to get it done today, 11 days out from the race. I settled on 5 miles at hm pace, around 6.45 pace.

1 mile easy warm up before the tempo started, miles 1&2 came in at 6.46 & 6.41 and they felt very comfortable. Totally off the cuff I decided to throw caution to the wind and step it up a notch and do the remaining 3 miles at around 6.30 pace. They flew by in 6.29, 6.27 & 6.28. The cool down mile was 7.12. As mentioned before I find it very hard to slow things down after running the quicker stuff.

I don't really know why I did what I did or if it will even benefit me but it felt great and I was really comfortable.

I'll knock out a couple of hm miles next week but everything else from here on will be very easy running.

Nice going Wowzer, judging by your 18.30 5k those 6.30 miles are right around your lactate threshold so that looks like a good tempo run, maybe others with a bit more experience could shed more light on it though!

Cheers OP, I tried to learn about lactate threshold, v02 and heart rate stuff but it went over my head.

I like to keep things as simple as possible as I already overthink things as it is. Adding all this kind of stuff in would drive me over the edge ☺
