Series finale on Friday should be epic...overall a superb piece of television.

If it stays in any way true to what happened historically, they all meet a horrible, horrible death at the hands of the Romans.

I was never a fan of the over stylised way the show is done, but the more I watch it the more it grows on me and the last few episodes have been top notch. I still laugh every time Shparticus jumps off something in slow motion every time he enters a scene though.

I just hope he doesn't go down like Achilles

From the preview, I feel like we're having a
lord of the rings battle on television with catapults and large armies....
I will definitely miss this show once it's over.

I wonder will they continue the series following Ceaser?

Curiosity got the better of me and I googled Spartacus

Is it true Gannicus was Irish?

Who was Castus wiki says he escaped with Spartacus from the ludus yet google Images is showing him as the black pirate

Rest I'll spoiler tag for those who don't know the facts according to wiki :D
Turns out they all die every one of them.Again unknown if true or not Spartacus body was never recovered
Going mad Ganicuss dies as I think he could carry a spin off series.

Never mind it turns out he broke away with Castus? before Spartacus dies

    Jesus roll on Saturday morning!!!

He was a celt but it was more likely he was from one of the mainland tribes or Britain. The celts were all over Europe, if they were an empire rather than separate tribes they would have been the largest empire of the time.

The Romans never really spent any time in Ireland, it was the Vikings that enslaved the Irish in a big way, but that was centuries later.

There's a decent documentary series on youtube, if you search for "rise and fall of rome" it's a 13 part series (the 14th part is a different show that goes over the Roman weapons and clothes), the second episode covers spartacus.

I have to say i love spartacus but i do think they needed to end it this season is it just me or is it getting very repetitive? The first season was amazing and something i'd written off as soft porn after 2/3 episode it really got me interested in the story. The prequel and subsequent seasons were also good but i do feel that most episodes now have a familiar feel to them. Obligatory sex scene - check, gory death - check etc.

I am interested to see the finale and see how it ends (even though i know the history so i doubt there'll be any surprises) I don't see where they could go with next session if anything i think they rushed this season a bit maybe padding out crixus and his army as the split from spartacus instead of the little we saw. All in all a great show and one i'll miss

This version of Caesar could carry his own show, his rise to power filmed in the same style would work very well imo and there are some great events in his life to build a few series around.

If they did it they'd really need to beef up the special effects on the big battles though, that scene where they rolled the burning balls down the hill was a bit cringe, same for all their attempts at wide shots of a large group of people to be honest

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,604 ✭✭✭dave1982

You can't beat the arena that for me is what Spartacus is about.I prefer arena style fight scenes than the big war ones.

Maybe Ceasar captures Gannicus and sends him back the arena :D

Anyway let the final battle commence

The show has the feel of a stage play overall, despite having big backdrops it's clearly done indoors on a set which gives it more of a stage play feel. Unless they were to change the way they do the entire show I don't think that will change.

Comparing it to something like Game of Thrones where they film outside and add the effects which gives it a completely different feel. Spartacus is nearly completely CGI from the look of it.

Spartacus rides a fine line between fantasy and farce but it's come into it's own, if they went more like Game of thrones it could throw the whole feel of the show off and the characters might look out of place in a more realistic setting.

The sets in the show are just a empty room with green walls :D

Yeh they kinda did ,from a story stand point, between glabber and Crassus Spartacus faced and defeated a succession of nobodies around which it would have been hard to hang a season. As for the obligatory sex scenes et al if they had found enough story to support another season I don't think many would have complained :p.

Even 3 more episodes to make it 13 like the first season would have been welcome and given the story more room to breath . An episode or two of crixus kicking ass would have been awsome, but maybe they preferred to throw all their money at the screen for the finale.

We've already seen that story in hbo's Rome tho haven't we ? and unless they recast isn't Todd Lasance abit young to be playing a Caesar who was 41 at the outset of the gallic campaign and 55 by the time he died , do they age him with makeup ? or compress his achievements into 3-4 seasons and have him declared dictator for life before before he even hits 40 ?

No for me the story I'd like to see would be Hannibals invasion of Italy .

    Just watched it.
Was a bit disappointed in the ending. All the good guys die and the bad guys get to literally laugh in their faces.
Now I feel bad. That whole Ganicus execution was very very sad indeed.

Well they were hardly going to rewrite history were they? I mean, Caeser getting bummed is one thing, but Spartacus actually surviving is another :)

An amazing finale, perfectly delivered, and the end credits were great, lovely little homage to Whitfield!

Great episode, great battle scene & fight scenes as well. Nice use of the 'I am spartacus' lines at the start.

I loved it, I thought they got nearly everything perfect and some very touching parts I though, especially with Gannicus. It is definitely a series that I will be re-watching.

Spartacus, I will miss you dear friend.

I have to say this was the best show on tv for me this season was amazing from start to finish, and i think Liam really nailed the role and that was the best finale to a show i ever seen really well done. The only down side is i now feel clinically depressed and traumatized by the ending :(

Also i loved what they did with the end credits.

    its just a "fun" show

Oh, that was fantastic. Everything about it was just brilliant. The whole battle with Spartacus' tactics, him beating Crassus in a fight with both of them doing the sword grip thing. I had thought Spartacus was gone after Crassus did it. Agron and Nasir getting free and bringing Spartacus to rest. The nods to the first season with the shield and the red serpent, the piece of Sura's dress, the bringer of rain when he finally dies, the my name is not Spartacus part (wish he had said his name then) and then the end credits and Andy in the arena.

Wasn't expecting to see Kore on the cross either, shame that's how Gannicus had to die, but I suppose they had to show the crosses on Appian Way somehow, and he's probably the best person to do it with. Lugo's death was brilliant, him just screaming "**** your mothers" as he's on fire and killing people with his hammer was one of the best scenes in it imo.

Shame it's all over, but I don't think you could have got a better finale than that tbh. Hints to a possible future with the Crassus, Caesar and Pompeii triumvirate too if they want to go with that, and hopefully they do as that would be fantastic.

Also, end credit music was beautiful.

Great end to a great season imo.

Loved the way they handled the deaths of the major rebel characters.
It felt appropriate that Naevia died 'alone' on the battlefield.

Loved having Gannicus see Oenomaus when he was nailed on the cross.

Spartacus having flashbacks near the end and seeing his wife brought back memories of the ending to gladiator which i definitely had a lump in my throat over.

Kore appearing on the cross as well was a great scene and surprised me even though i thought that crassus was gonna kill her when they embraced back at the camp for the same reason he put her on the cross.

Definitely gonna miss it, great show.

Can't add much more that hasn't been mentioned - It was awesome.

I loved how the defeat of Gannicus was handled, it would have been a shame to watch the only gladiator to ever truly earn his freedom, being slayed on his knees by Caesar.
Great season, and to echo the comments of the posters previous - the ending credits where very thoughtful and great to watch.
