I'm a huge fan of Te'o but i don't think he's a good compliment to Butler, we need a run stuffer similar to Spikes but with more speed so that he can drop into coverage if necessary

Ye I totally agree, need a battering ram of a MLB.
I think Mathieu is going to be a really good player, if he there at 3 I would be delighted with him.

He blitzes like a train too.

Wonder will this guy get cut and we can pick him up again?... not a factor in coverage per se but loved him at the goal line. Still only 27.

I trust someone like Tom Telesco will see the value in Butler and lock him up before it is too late ala AJ.

And there goes Vaughn Martin. Heaven help us regarding the D line. Maybe one of those fat boys designated as Guards might move across!!!. Ha ha ha.

I'm blindly trusting Telesco and that he knows what he's at this off season but our roster seems very light.
100% agree on Siler, he was a beast on the goal line but I can't help think signing him is a step backwards. I think a lot of the rest of our signings will be unknowns as we seem set on getting younger.
Rochey, would you play Matthieu's as a Safety or CB?

I used to love Siler. What a let down Mouton seems to be.

I would play him as a safety, but im sure he is well able to play as a corner inside or on the outside.
Really like him, hopefully he makes it.

Starting to worry about the lack of quality bodies we have.
I do expect us to improve becuase I dont think this is going to happen next season :(

To be honest we can't be much worse than last year. We were shocking at times, so predictable on O and learning on the job on D. While I don't expect us to challenge for the Division I don't believe a wildcard is a long shot.

What gives me hope is what Cleveland managed to do last year with the youngest roster in the league. I think their record (W-L) belies the fact that they were well in a lot of those games that they lost. We might not even be done cutting. Clary and McClain being the two obvious ones.

Getting rid of Clary will save lots of $, so he's a defo cut in my opinion. It'll be interesting to see what they do with McClain, he is not a FB and both Ronnie and Danny (nevermind Baker) can backup Ryan. So McClain is expendable if it saves us $.

Even if we weren't saving $ on McClain i'd cut him, he was beyond useless for us last year, brought nothing to the team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,275 ✭✭✭Justin10

We dont save any money against the cap by cutting Clary.
McClain I think its $1.5M but not sure.

$2.3m saving if we cut Clary.

Thanks I thought it was much less.

Really hope Larry English regains his fitness from his rookie year, hate to see a player bot being able to get on the field.

How about this for a v early offseason prediction. Let's say we draft Cooper and Troutman makes it to start at Left Guard. I reckon Cooper beats out Nick Hardwick for the starting center position before year end.

Can't see us dropping hardwick, he'll definitely be one of our 5 best linemen this year. And we definitely would need a guard more than a centre, we have good depth at centre.

I cant see us drafting a guard at 11, even if all the tackles are gone.
The idea of zone blocking is to get average Olinemen and turn them into really productive players. Bit like Tampa 2 and corners.

Maybe with the wage scale we will but I doubt it.

I'm not sure we are moving to a strict ZBS though. I've been watching some tape lately (youtube really!!) and I reckon this guy Cooper is a stud. I'd have no qualms whatsoever taking him at 11 if the 3 Tackles are gone. This is Hardwicks last hurrah too. Potential 10 yr Dermontti Dawsons don't come around too often.

Totally agree that Cooper is a stud.
I think we are going to go total zone blitz, maybe not next year but 2-3 years down the road we will be.

If we get any sort of decent offer to trade down I would in a heartbeat.

Were we to trade down to say 20 or thereabouts who do you think might fit the bill down there? too early for the Tackle Watson?, maybe the DT from Missouri Richardson, can he play nose? or do we take best OLB left on the board?

I think an OLB would be there, then pick up another pick for a safety, which seems to be a deep class.

In saying I would trade down it does depend on the board, like Mingo or one of the DT that will be there.

The mocks are all over the place this year, Ive seen Cooper go in the 20s, same with Vaccaro, what about Tyler Eifert.

I would be amazed if we can get a LT in round 1, if Johnson somehow gets past pick 7 i think the Rams will trade up to get ahead of us, they've plenty of picks to do it. I also don't want us to go Guard in round 1, my preference is Johnson, Lotulelei and then Mingo, if all 3 are gone then take a G or SS.
Presuming we don't get a LT in round 1 i'd be interested in Terron Armstead, should go late round 2 or early in the third. He's from a smaller school but had a great combine as a speed LT, he has a big upside and would fit in a ZBS if we go that way.

I'm away on the weekend of the draft, not even sure i'll get to see any of it or even our pick until Tues.

Forgot about Terron Armstead, he could be a decent pick up in the second. Aint really seen anything of him playing, but reports seem decent.

Interesting to see we are bringing in Te'o, clearly an option for our 2nd round pick.

That Terron Armstead is a smokescreen I reckon. I've read plenty of the bigging up of he after the combine, even Joe D has apparently worked him out. It happens so often a guy is so mentioned in connection with a team and it is all BS. Last year it was Barron and Harrison Smith, this year Armstead and to a certain degree Johnson at #11.

I'd much prefer TT to do his thang and deliver us players that will perform instead of media/hype darlings.

I'd love to be watching live if he is available when we are picking in 2nd round. Esp what with who else might be available at the time and of course knowing who we got at #11.

Gil brandt is a big fan of armstead so i reckon he has a good upside. He'll have a lot of development to go through but if we could trade back in the second and get him and an extra 3rd or 4th round pick it'd be good business i think. I really hope we don't trade up in this draft, we need our picks.
I can't see Te'o reaching us in the second and if he does i still don't think he is a fit beside butler. It would be good trade bait for us if he did slide
