    20 March 2012
    $124.09 for a barrel
    €0.59 per litre before refined
    €1.64 per litre of petrol

    20 February 2012
    $121.04 for a barrel
    €0.57 per litre before refined
    €1.59 per litre of petrol

    How is a 2c difference a 5c difference?

    20 January 2012
    $114.66 for a barrel
    €0.56 per litre before refined
    €1.53 per litre of petrol

Now a 6c difference in 1c difference per litre

Something isn't right! I think the stations have set up a cartel and I think WE SHOULD DEMAND an investigation.

Prices according to the accurate EUR/USD currency histories.

Should've stated it's just the cost of 1 litre of crude oil. Before refinery. +5-15c is what it costs as a 1 litre of 95 octane petrol.

Have you taken the exchange rate between the € and $ for each of those dates into account?

    Yes. FOREX currencies.

    20th January 2012 - €1 = $1.2899
    20th February 2012 - €1 = $1.3221

The job before the DIY shop paid IR£15/day (with lunch from the chipper thrown in though  )
Pft. I got a full carvery lunch; turkey & ham & spuds & gravy every day I worked, even if I was only in for 3 hours (weekdays; 12 hour days at the weekends). Usually worked out that the A-Team was on around lunch time.

I was looking an an article over the weekend which was attempting to etimate the value of the Cork Oil Well. It was valued at so many barrels by $80 a barrel. The 'expert' said that this was the long term value used for a barrel of oil. What does this say about the cost of oil in the future and peak oil and all that stuff.

This government has abandoned the internal economy for exports.

Hehe, the people are getting agitated.
Expect petrol prices to come down a little bit and people to calm down before heading higher than ever.

i know of friends who will now not take the car out even for a trip to the shops, they atke the bus instead, slowly but surely people will cut back on their consumption and this will feed through to the forecourt retailers.

really it can't keep on going like this, it must be impacting on the economy in a very negative way.

What have the forecourt retailers got to do with it ?

Well its to them that we hand over the hard earned cash. I'd like to hear more from them what is driving the incessant price increases. If this happened in any other sector people would be screaming blue murder (including the Govt) at retailers seeking an explanation. Of course we all know that almost 50% of every increase goes to the Troika(Govt) so the Govt has a vested interest in price increases.

Still very few liquids can compete with petrol in terms of price ;).

I'm over here in Malaysia at the moment, Petrol costs around 2MYR (48c/litre) and Gas around 0.8 (20c/litre). Excessive taxation has Ireland destroyed beyond comparison. Oil is expensive yes, but in reality it is still cheap however when you have such crippling taxation then it becomes expensive.
