Tbf Half backs are expected to kick points in modern football. McCarron and the keeper I'll give you.

everyone knows mc cann has brutal feet. shouldnt be allowed to shoot. how can any of our players be expected to kick a ball competently when all they are ever asked to do it run and hand pass.

Cavan up this weekend for the first outing. Not really bothered about this but the McKenna cup could be interesting with both Donegal and Cavan on our side of the draw, neither will want to be beat even in a preseason game by Tyrone after Ulster last year.

Then back into Div1 with the big boys for the next few months. Really looking forward to the league and will try to get to a few games if I can at all.

    League fixtures....

    Sunday 5 February
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 1
    Tyrone v Roscommon, TBC, TBC

    Saturday 11 February
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 2
    Dublin v Tyrone, TBC, TBC

    Saturday 25 February
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 3
    Tyrone v Cavan, TBC, TBC

    Saturday 4 March
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 4
    Tyrone v Monaghan, TBC, TBC

    Saturday 18 March
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 5
    Donegal v Tyrone, TBC, TBC

    Sunday 26 March
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 6
    Tyrone v Mayo, TBC, TBC

    Sunday 2 April
Allianz Football League Division 1 round 7

You might want to take a look at the Donegal squad for the McKenna Cup....

I didn't even see the Tyrone squad TBH. I'm assuming then the Donegal squad is devoid of the big guns then from that post?

It is a shadow under 21 squad (ie not even first choice U21 team) and Declan Bonner is the manager. Eoin Ban Gallagher is the only 'gun'.

Saving it for the league and Ulster semi then. If I remember we're due to play each other in the semi should we win our respective quarters.

Two defeats on the bounce, not used to seeing this, albeit we're still in preseason.

I'm guessing we're gearing up differently this year, given the tougher league campaign ahead.

I'm more worried about Connor McAliskey getting injured than losing in the McKenna Cup. looks like a cruciate by all accounts.

Jesus that is ****e for him. Never a good time to do it but first game back? Hateful. August probably too soon for him what with match fitness etc

McKenna cup final this week against Derry. Winning is a good habit to be in and despite a bad start against Cavan getting another bit of silverware would be good.

Roll on the league then. Great to be back in d1 and hopefully we'll make a good fist of it.

1-7 to 2 points to Tyrone at half time. Sounds like derry started stronger taking the lead twice but Tyrone got an early goal and ploughed on from there. Derry hit the cross bar shortly after.

Hateful that it's not on any of the many Irish TV channels instead of the ****e they generally show. Surely if they out these finals on they'd get gaa starved viewers.

Derry got a 73rd minute goal to put some respectability on the scoreline.

Nice to get off to a winning start to the year without the pressure of being unbeaten like what happened last year in the build up to the mayo game.

Roll on d1 and back playing the big boys.

Me all by myself again. :(

Anyhoo on to the league and playing the rossies in omagh this weekend. Important to get a win here with it being a home game against one of the teams that should be beatable. Far from easy but on paper we should have enough.

On a side note I was delighted to be back in d1 because living in Sligo I thought I'd have a few handy trips to the likes of mayo or Roscommon but nope, all matches against western sides are in fecking omagh.

I might shoot to castlebar on Saturday night to get a look at mayo vs Monaghan.

    Much!

Getting the buzz again now so you can all expect my unique style of butthurt one week, magnanimous the next spamming up until we get knocked out in October after throwing the game away against Mayo or Kerry.

    Good times.

Should we not just let someone else win the mckenna cup some year?

Ah sure we're the McKenna cup version of Dublin in Leinster.

Thank God Tyrone are playing the Dubs this weekend because that means we'll get a bit of TV coverage.

I watched the League Sunday program there. The other 3 D1 games had 10 minutes each between clips and discussion. Tyrone V Rossies had 4.5 minutes, highlights from one camera with no commentator and barely a mention after the game. The papers had no more information about the game than what you would have gleaned from reading the order the scores came in and off the ball didn't even mention it when they were doing the GAA show on Monday. Spoke about the other 3 games and a few D2 games but this might as well not have been played.

Live on Eir Sports this week though on Saturday night.

It's a game that I don't expect an awful lot from but it'll be good to see exactly where we are in comparison to the best team out there. I expect Dublin to go with an even stronger side than they played against Cavan and Tyrone to go with everything they have available. Looks like Mattie is going to be out with a concussion he picked up at the weekend which is a huge loss to us.

All the footage on League Sunday was from the other games was from other broadcasters - Dublin v Cavan and Kerry v Donegal were TG4 while the Mayo v Monaghan was from EIR. I'd imagine it will be the same for the rest of the league by RTE - the utter bare minimum they can get away with. The GAA don't seem to care about the feeble effort RTE put in during the league.

Oh I know it was, and tbh that annoys me more. So the three games that you can watch live or record if you're at them get over half the program in the highlights show whilst the other games get barely a mention. It's pathetic.

it's the same for the championship too.

To be fair to RTE they really can't be bothered with Tyrone after the mess that happened last year.
Agreement in place that if TV crew etc. came to Omagh for league game that someone in Tyrone camp would speak after the game (this was agreed to by Tyrone County Board). Game happens and RTE TV crew are left out in the rain and no one ever appears from Tyrone dressing room. Can't really blame RTE for not giving a **** about Tyrone games.

Was embarassing for county board who approached mickey re the situation but didn't get anywhere.

Yup totally agree - it's like RTE refuse to acknowledge the invention of the video recorder/DVR player/the ability to watch games back online.

The fact that I can't shake the feeling that the main reason behind it is because re-using the footage from the other sources means far less work makes for the RTE lads is all the more galling.

It's not just a Tyrone situation - for the rest of the league the majority of the footage shown on League Sunday will be from the games already broadcast on other channels. This has been the way for a good while.

Like was said, it's not just a Tyrone thing. It's the same across the board, if 3 games are televised and there's four games on the game that wasn't on TV live already gets about 2 minutes of coverage while the games that were on get nothing.

That still doesn't excuse the likes of the print media for having nothing on the game, radio like off the ball for not even mentioning it in passing, I also just listened to that podcast from Joe.ie (which is actually usually really good despite the source) and it had nothing about it.

As for no-one from Tyrone speaking to RTE, if some pleb int he county board agreed to it then that's their problem. The team and Mickey are amateurs and as such should be under no obligations to speak to anyone they don't want to and I fully support their stance. That's been covered in detail here already though and not much point in going over it again.

It's a conspiracy and yet more proof that the entire world has it in for Tyrone imo.

Not really what I'm getting at. More the lack of depth or quality in GAA journalism in the country. There wasn't a peep out of me that the Tyrone game was the only one of the D1 games not be be aired live or in full deferred because it was clearly the least attractive fixture in the lot. The point about not getting more than 2 minutes on the highlights show could apply to any side in the same scenario.

As for the like of the Indo/Irish Times etc not bothering to send someone up to watch the game to write a report, well I think that's pretty poor but I'd get over it. Again it was the least attractive game of the lot.

I am pissed off that it wasn't mentioned on either podcast I listened to though. I'm fecking starved of my Tyrone news and talk as you can tell by my rambling here and I didn't get my fix despite us winning a game.

Would prefer Bradley to O'neill or even Brennan.
Would like to see Brennan this year - considering hes done his obligatory first years penance on the bench I think we should?
Looks like its 7/8 defenders 2 mid field and 4/5 forwards then. Should be interesting.
Wonder will Morgan take any frees?

I hope not. It's tried and failed enough times now.
