    As I said, embarrassingly bad.

    Some games look good though.

Quite hilarious of Microsoft to say "We heard you, so it's all gameplay, now here's a bunch of in game cut scenes".

The Vampire game is the pick of the bunch so far for me. Looks fantastic.

Anything that was exciting wasn't new and anything that was new wasn't exciting. If the first two years of the PS4/One generation is anything to go by this gen will take even longer to gain momentum.

There was nothing shown there that could not be on a current gen console.
    Meh

At least it's good to see games using smart delivery anyway, means that at least some games will be properly gross gen.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they're doing with the Backwards Compatibility with Xbox One and PS4 games, hopefully it gives a meaningful boost to current gen games, as they're going to be relying on those for a few years I think.

Credit has to go to Nintendo for being the only company seemingly able to pull off the ‘direct’ format (Devolver aside). It seems like every time any other major company goes the same route it comes across as this awkward attempt to be both ‘cool’ (in the 90s sense) and corporate at the same time. Nintendo’s efforts have this sort of quaint sterility, gentle politeness and deadpan humour to them that seems like as good as you’re going to get with what are effectively gaming infomercials.

I think Nintendo leave out the cool. Therefore it's not forced and any awkwardness comes across as charming

It also helps that they are also the only first party bringing out games that are worth playing in a timely manner.

Both Microsoft and Sony are being so cat and mouse about the whole thing and the small, incremental reveals are becoming tedious now.

Scarlet Nexus is the only game that looked any bit interesting, was surprised Yakuza 7 is coming to xbox series x.

Was excited about the horror game until I realised the developer Blooper, same team behind the god awful Layers of Fear.

That Bright Memory looked familiar alright. It was released on PC a few weeks back. This version is coming to Steam as well, so I'm not sure what the differences will be.

It's not really a surprise, they're putting loads of the Yakuza games into Game Pass, made a big deal of it 6 months back or so.

Got announced for PC so it's a no brainer for xbox.

Hoping the collection of 3 to 6 also makes it to PC.

Saw that Bright Memory trailer and thought of Ready Player One.

I've had it for like a year.

Ah, must be just on Steam where it's new?

Yeah, as soon as the car rolled up I had the same thought.

September's Tokyo Game show has been cancelled. There'll be a digital event to replace it.

The right move, doubt there'll be any high-touch / large attendance events that'll happen anywhere in the globe for the next 12 months. Well, maybe the US but they're playing with fire ATM.

One would imagine E3 is dead; wasn't like there weren't enough folk questioning its point before CoVid. You'd imagine insurance premiums for large scale event spaces will go through the roof as well, killing off the smaller or niche conventions.

Yeah, E3 was already on life support, but I hadn't even thought about the insurance side of it! The whole industry will have to adapt, I guess. Hopefully the big conferences won't completely disappear... part of me enjoys the oblivious cheesiness of it all.

Not sure how liable they'd be, and especially in California where they'd reduced charges and decriminalised different situation of infecting other. Might be different in a professional situation but if they follow whatever required legal guidelines then they've done their legal due diligence.

    Finally, a game launched capturing an important niche: the North of England in 1980s, Thatcher Britain. Comes from the makers of Jalopy and also centres around fixing up or repairing pieces of cr*p;

Here we ****ing go. Either Mafia 4, trilogy remaster or the worst of the options, a remaster of 2 and 3 like rumoured. I really hope it's 4 as was 'leaked' months back which has you back in the American Italian Mafia family but now in Vegas building a casino empire.

    Mafia was a fantastic game.

Mafia 2 and 3 were fairly ****e. They have their fans but I file them under the same fans saying Days Gone is a masterpiece.

Masterpieces in mediocrity and doing the bare minimum for an open world game.

Don't really trust them to make a good mafia game with 4 considering how bad 3 was yet it still sold.

I don't think anyone called Days Gone a Masterpiece. GOTY? Sure but lots of room for improvement. Also I loved Days Gone but Mafia 3 was shyte so where does that leave me?? :)

Mafia 3 is somewhat redeemed if you have all the DLC as it throws in much needed variety but the base game was a pile of bollox. Mafia 2 was excellent but playing it recently, it hasn't aged well. The shooting mechanics are still top notch though.

Man, what I'd give for a Mafia 1 remake. Now that was a masterpiece (except for that car race level).

Days Gone GOTY. So many good games last year. Indie games and switch's library were insanely good. And of course there was Ace combat 7

But yeah it wasn't as bad as mafia 3. Days Gone is serviceable compared to utter ****e of mafia 3.

Thought mafia 2 wasnt great shakes either. Ok story but missions were poor and the the open world was bad as well.

Well, I think Death Stranding just nipped it for GOTY. I suppose Switch had another Mario or green elf game out? Also, AC 7 wasn't a patch on AC 6, felt like the series started going downhill with 7.

Waiting on PC version of Death Stranding. Switch had a great 2019 Luigi's Mansion, Astral Chain and Fire Emblem were top of the pile there. Insanely good year for indies as well.

As for Ace Combat 7.... well even a bad ace combat is awesome!

Anyway I thought Ace 6 was the one people were down on and 7 was a return to form (but not as good as the PS2 games).

Ah wrong italian plumber brother. Last Ace Combat I played was on the PS1, great memories. Well I'm either thinking of that or Afterburner.

Death Stranding is so special. Marmite game but if you love it, you'll get a lot out of it.
