Personally I wouldnt worry about Marathons at the moment. Focus on just getting out running again and enjoying it. The fitness will come just focus on getting the consistency in

In short term I would say focus more around 5k and 10k races as you will get away with the lack of miles more than the likes of a HM or Marathon. and evaluate your fitness in a few months time.

However I am a big believer in high mileage and not to attempt marathon till you are sustaining higher mileage for over a year atleast and have built up a huge aerobic base so my opinion may not match your own personal ambitions/ commitments

    Matches my experience somewhat.
Returned to running last March, but it is only during recent weeks that I can manage running on successive days. Managed to exceed 600 miles last year, but have surpassed 200 miles this year.

Any attempt to increase mileage last year got resisted by my body :)
Its taken 9 months for my body to accept these miles

I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong but yet again I'm listed twice on the spreadsheet, can somebody (Ray????:D:D:D:D) delete the lower value one please?

In the hope that flattery will get you to help me out.....
BTW Ray well done on your excellent PB in Raheny :)

    Total for the month 249.95miles

And yes, I'm very annoyed that I didn't think to check my total before I headed off out this morning with a view to reaching 250 miles for this month.
I might just run up and down my road now.....

P&D is a hard task master, just checked my spreadsheet from last year & I'm 110 miles ahead already, will be interesting to see if that translates into any improvement in times.

Hey, something seems to have gone wrong with the table. Went to update there to find that I now have a total of 90 miles :D. Nice as it is, I was nowhere near that ! Will have to wait till I go home to check my own record to see what I should be at. From glancing at the table I have a feeling I might not be the only one. Maybe putting the names in alphabetical order have done this ?

Looks like someone is trying to add another column and having a hard time of it.

Word of advice to them - back out and undo your changes, reverting the table to as it was before. Then take a copy of the spreadsheet, and mess with that until you know exactly how to make the changes you want. Then go into the main spreadsheet and make the change.

Everyone else - keep your own records too...

Finally updated after being lazy for the last week. Cheers to whoever put in the column to calculate average weekly mileage it is nice to have as I have a rough figure I wnt to hit for the year to get me to my grand total for the year (so far on target :))

    ^ Cool.

Had been thinking that something along those lines should be added to it. Good work.

Edit: I've copied your sums to the Positions sheet now so that they don't get lost by some mad edit.

Might be an idea to keep all the complicated stuff to the rankings sheet, and keep the first sheet simple, just columns A-F?

Agreed - just keep the user inputs on one sheet.

Not gone on the estimated dates for reaching targets though as its a bit of a downer for people like me who are going from a 20 miler week up to a 40 miler in training (I know it'll improve as the weeks progress but at this moment in time I'd like to think I'll be hitting 1000 before Christmas Day :D)

What were the rules on the streak again? Mine actually started 27/12. Surely it makes sense to include those days?

    +1

Just in order to limit confusion I've removed Rom's calculations form the editable sheet now and they are just on the positions sheet.

lads i am soo glad i joined up on this, it really encourages ya to put in the miles. i would be pretty good but can easily persuaded myself not to go out but i want to keep my place on the table. so am forcing myself out for my first 6am run tomorrow, followed by a 12 hr shift in temple street... will b glad of it when i gt home tomorrow night to put the miles down on the table :D but the thoughts of it now are not as sweet :(

Hopefully I'm not tempting fate - have joined this year's challenge on 75.5miles

I have now done three weeks in a row of doing the most miles I have ever done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭eyeball kid

Finally got round to doing a few more miles today. Took it very easy as I seemed to be having shin splints the last time I went out.
I'm in London at the moment and this week has been freezing, hovering around 0 deg today I think. Doesn't exactly motivate me to get out there :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,781 ✭✭✭eyeball kid

Also, just want to say that the weekly mileage thing is great as is the predicted total for the year. (355 miles - must try harder!)

Has anyone else noticed that their name has changed in the file ?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 24,146 Mod ✭✭✭✭robinph

Someone was acting the bollix at 10:56 this morning and changed about 10 or so peoples names by the looks of things.

Edit: They actually fecked about with a few other things as well by the looks of it and I can't be bothered to fix each thing individually. I've reverted to the last edit made by someone who was actually signed in this morning. So if you put in new miles this morning then they will have been reset back to your previous number, sorry.

Wouldn't mind, but I was just getting used to considering myself as a runner now, rather than a person who heads out every now and then for a few miles. ;)

That happened a few days ago too (the changing names thing).
