Hope you didn't. And instead played him this song that a nice Jewish man wrote for him.

Of course he thought it was a girl's name.....
The original Isis was female too, the Egyptian goddess, so Bob wasn't wrong.

Not kids when I met them. Two Nepali brothers called (I attempt the correct spelling) Chotey and Motey iirc which translated as Shorty and Fatty :)

Its names like this that make me think parents give no consideration that their children might actually grow into adults.

"The nation rises to toast the President on his 65th brithday. In a banquet at Aras an Uachtarain, a cake was presented to the premier with the message "Happy Birthday, Jayden"."

    ^^^Rambo :p

    Melody....a dude too. :p
A family friend from England knew some bloke who called his sons IIRC Rambo, Rocky, Sylvester and Stallone. Stallone died tragically young.

Someone I vaguely know named her son Diarmit because she wanted an Irish name.

I mean seriously. It's such an important decision naming a child, would ya not do a small bit of research into making sure you spell it right!

It doesn't even obey the "caol le caol, leathan le leathan" rule.

If you go to any shopping centre, school, park and call that name out, the amount of kids that would turn around. I work in a prison and it's easily the most common (in both senses of the word) name among visitors' children.

It's also a freaking porn star name ffs!

The whole surname as a first name fad gets me... I seen a thing recently about reality TV had made Quinn and Carter rise in popularity in the US as first names. On here there is a "baby names" thread and that grinds my gears a bit. As some have alluded to that baby grows up. I knew a lad in school that had an Irish name that I never heard before or since. I'm not knocking Irish names but that lad obviously had to endure "What... Spell that!" as he got older. Last I heard he had dropped it and called himself Mark as he got sick of it.

Coillte -- cause naming your kid after a semi-state company is just wrong.

Well given that most Irish surnames are based off first names it's just a case of returning to original use. Though in case of Quinn (Ó Cuinn) the correct "First name" would be Conn.

This bloke was Drostan (saint's name) but his mother seemed to say Drustin. Poor fukker got teased in school and hated it. No big surprise he got sick of it when it came to going mottin' in Tamangos.

I was once in Tallaght and heard this young wan call her son outside Smyth's, "Preston! Get here, Preston!"
I'm pretty sure for the last eighty years the only people first-named Preston were robot dogs until that bloke on Big Brother.

    I'm between minds on this one, don't know whether I like it or find it tacky as feck;

Sapphire or Safyre as I'm sure it was spelt!:pac:

Brother and girlfriend had a lovely baby girl recently and called her Elsie.
Wasn’t sure what surname they were going with,. Thankfully they went with brothers as his girlfriend’s surname is Deasy.

My flatmate's parents, who were not part of some native American tribe, gave him the first name Blue Lake.

He had his name legally changed the second he realised he could.

Met a kid called Hunter at the weekend. The mum told me dad's first choice was Slayer but she vetoed it.

My niece's middle name is Puppets. Her dad put it on the birth cert without telling my sister cos he's a big Metallica fan. She gets some weird looks in airports from security :pac:

    Shauna

It's my name, and I hate it. Even if it wasn't my name, I would probably still hate it. I can't put my finger on it, but I curse my mam to this day for calling me that. Her first choice was Ruth which I would accept

If it's any consolation. I think Ruth is even worse than Shauna!
