Burnout paradise has a massive map. I was wondering how big it actually is because i used to imagine it was a lot bigger than SA and going by this I was right:

    http://unrealitymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/large-video-game-worlds2.jpg

I remember it used to take a good 20 minutes flat out to get from one side to another.

I still don't quite buy it, to be honest. I'm sure we'll see when it comes out, but we were told similar about Liberty City if I recall correctly. R* do a great job on their games, but they do also tend to exaggerate their map dimensions ever so slightly.

Fair enough, we'll see in six months
But has Skyrim been on a console? I thought it was PC-only?

Skyrim has been on PS3 and Xbox from day one. Though I'd imagine it isn't quite on expected GTA V-level graphics wise on console

Skyrim was released on console a year ago yesterday.

Although huge, its not that good a reference as you have not ever been able to fast travel in GTA.

In Skyrim, you get across the map in one load screen, In GTA its a 5-15min drive! but hey, thats one of its best features thanks to the radio!

I didn't realise Skyrim got a console release, though if the above comments are anything to go by it's not a great game to measure against, anyway?

Either way, I won't get myself too hyped for a gigantic map. Mind you, I thought Liberty City was a grand size anyway. It's like anything else though, the map feels enormous when you first get the game, but as you get familiar with it it seems smaller and more condensed, as you know what to expect and how to get places.

Any sign of police bikes in it?

Yeah i have to agree with this. Obviously they seen the confusion the "including exteriors and interiors" comment made so were a little bit more straight forward and gave specifics.

Its not that hard to imagine the map size being that size either, look at skyrim, that would be about the size of 3, maybe more RDR maps.

I doubt interiors will make up much percentage of the overall explorable area. It's a lot easier to model a large expanse of outdoor space than thousands of individual interior rooms.

Yeah i play it on the xbox the odd time, excellent game, hard to gauge gta against it because it took a lot longer to make skyrim

Can just use a taxi and fast travel doing that. Considering how crap the radio was in GTA4, the fast travel was a lifesaver

Was the radio crap in GTA IV?

Yes; luckily I used my own tunes.

Having a map 3 to 5 times the size of RDR map is impressive. But to be honest, it doesnt take all that long to cross from one side of the map to the other in that game. And you're on a horse.

So saying los santos is going to be 3-5 times the size is not a huge stretch of the imagination

Well, you kinda still have to factor in things like traffic, roads and bridges, which weren't in RDR. For example, in RDR you could pretty much just go as the crow flies. In GTA:IV, you had to go to certain places in order to access bridges and tunnels to cross islands, and rather than going diagonally, you'd have to go straight, then turn etc.

Even if the actual map isn't that huge, it could still take quite a while to get from one side to the other.

The radio in IV wasn't crap. It just lacked a few of the iconic tunes and moments that the radio had in previous games. It did the job at the time though and probably 80% of the radio from the other games (maybe 50% in VC) was equally unremarkable.

I'd like a proper return of Chatterbox and a lot more variety in the music.

I found the only thing lacking in the GTA:IV radio were decent talk stations. Though I kinda felt the same way about SA too. Chatterbox from GTA3 and K-Chat and VCPR from Vice City were both just brilliant. But since then, it just kinda hasn't felt right.

    WCTR was brilliant IMO.

    Gardening with Maurice. :pac:

And to try and keep semi-on-topic so CM doesn't get too pissed off:

Hope they really invest time in the radio this time. PLR and WKTR from IV were very poor. No lasting power.

I'd like some serious parodies of people like Howard Stern and the likes. With callers bitching about the government and things.

    Also Xsorbio!

Just had the realisation that PC release won't be the same as the consoles and I won't be able to play until this time next year at earliest. :(

There's an easy solution to that

Buy a PS3. You could probably get one cheap enough now. Second hand if you want cheaper again. You don't want to be sitting there watching everyone else playing, do you? :p

Or better yet, I'll sell him my old 360 for 20quid.

It RRoD'd, but my friend did some trickery to extend it's lifespan since it broke the week before the Slim's were released. I reckon it has about two weeks of non-stop playing in it before it dies again. :P

I quite liked the radio in IV. Any game that features Smashing Pumpkins' 1979 and anything by LCD Soundsystem is ok in my books.

It is harder to choose the correct tracks for a contemporary setting though, rather than for a past period like the 80's (VC) or the early 90's (SA). I'm looking forward to seeing how R* approaches music in modern day California. As long as there isn't an over-reliance on rap/hip-hop in V then I'll be content. Oh, and hopefully there are a few classic rock tunes for desert cruising.

the gta 4 radio soundtracks did have gems here and there. Another one i heard was One Vision by Queen.
But as a whole, the radio in IV was forgettable. i can still remember a lot of tracks from VC and SA.
If they have retro radio stations as well as modern ones and chat shows, as well as giving each stations a long loop (ie not hearing the same song on one station for 1 or 2 hours), that would be a significant improvement on IV

I definitely agree that the radio in SA, in particular, was better than in IV. The tracks fitted a lot better with the atmosphere of the game. But IV wasn't terrible by a long shot.

I can't really comment on VC though since I was quite young when it came out. I was too preoccupied with the novelty of running down roller-bladers to hear any music.
