    Hi all,

Just a heads up - an Irish arcade Facebook Group has been created with a view to arranging arcade gaming/collector related meets across the island of Ireland throughout the year.

It would be fantastic to see some of you on there. Head over and say hello! 👋🙂

From Phil's Arcade, who created the group -

"A Facebook Group, RetroGamersIreland, has been created to help bring together gamers of arcade and early console users. Not restricted to Ireland as everyone is welcome to join in and contribute when and where they can.

When posting please be respectful and remember that those of a younger nature may frequent the site, even if just wondering what all the old foggies used to be up too."

Big shout out to Phils Arcade for creating this group. ✊🕹️🕹️🕹️

    RetroGamersIreland URL -

    https://www.facebook.com/share/g/YN95TzjuK8AdMW3w/

Hopefully see some of you on the group. 🙂

    Cheers,

    Joe

Check out the arcade one of the guys over on Arcade-projects.com is after putting together.

I'm getting that 'space envy' thing again!

Crazy to think if you had the room about ten years ago you could put this together for around 10k. Cant even begin to imagine what it would cost now.

Thanks for sharing, o1s1n. Life goals right there.

A severe lack of Sega racers though! 😉

So I'm currently cleaning up and putting the Sega Club Kart Prize together that I got recently but I want to reconfigure it a little bit.

I've searched high and low for the answer to this question but I can't seem to find it.

Does anybody know the part number of this particular coin chute? It's the metallic piece that I've outlined in the picture here.

If worse comes to the worse I'll try to 3D print something but I'd like to at least try to get my hands on as original part as the one that came with the cab itself isn't suitable.

    Thanks in advance.

    Still proving difficult to find.

I might just cut up what was sitting there with my dremel and try to fashion some kind of coin chute myself.

    Thanks anyway!

Nah. That's the actual chute piece for inside of the panel which I can just 3D print myself.

It's the actual carriage from the CP to the coin box that's made of metal is the thing that I really need but no worries I think I'm just going to fashion something like I said.

    Thanks anyway! 😊

Ah man, that's actually upset me a little bit seeing all those machines go. I was in the July before they must have had the clear out, really was like taking a walk back into my childhood.

Had really been hoping someone local could have done something with the machines, and indeed the space itself - maybe a more legit version of Token.

Try getting in touch with Yaton, they're always disassembling arcade machines and selling parts.

Actually have a website now (used to all just be listed on ebay)

    https://yatonarcade.com/search?type=product&options%5Bprefix%5D=last&q=naomi

Sheep Nova might be a good one to reach out to as well.

They really had some incredibly interesting and rare cabinets too. Those lads from the UK must have felt like they hit the jackpot. Wonder where it all ended up? (hope some of it at least went to HoG)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 OutRunner

I'm not entirely convinced they had everything. I spoke to someone local about a year ago who reckoned there were still machines inside the building. Could have obviously been sold to someone else, but when I was in there in July 2019 I distinctly remember there being a dual Scud Race, Paperboy, stand up AfterBurner and Nintendo Punch Out which the UK lads don't appear to have gotten their hands on during the raid later that year.

    I think this is the part you are looking for;

Now, is there different lengths for some reason? No idea :D When I cut down my Naomi, that chute/tube is removed complelely but that prob wouldn't be awesome for a driving Naomi

The Punchout got sold locally to Athlone that summer, think some of the other bits did too. They had a book of sales that they had that sold to local collectors over the years so plenty of their machines floating around, I know of a few. Difficult to deal with at first, when I first made contact they were willing to sell goliaths in various state for near 1k, prices were really all over the place on everything but there were no real bargains. I don't remember any paperboy's, just championship sprints (2x).

I was in the process of trying to set up a retro arcade at the time so it made sense as they had hundreds of machines there. Also had machines in mosney (i.e. Atari Tx1). On my first visit they had said they were in talks with numerous groups looking for a group buy on a select amount of machines. I went up for my second visit and they went from selling a small amount of machines to selling almost everything very fast, a particular set of circumstances changed majorly between my first and second visit over the course of a few weeks which I won't get into, it's a long story but yeah they really wanted a bulk group buy ASAP. I tried to get people here in Ireland involved at the time but to no success, I don't think we had enough people to really make a dent in what they wanted. After a lot of effort I missed out on everything, all happened too quick.

I took pictures of almost everything, there was like 200ish cabinets I reckon, and I would say definitely some still left up there. I crawled under/over cabinets into the back of shipping containers they had some stored in. There was some cabinets quite sentimental to them that they wouldn't sell for any money I'd say i.e. Radarscope, wouldn't be surprised if they opened again maybe although you'd assume it would have by now.

Rare stuff I seen Tx1, Stun Runner, Champ Sprint, Taito Grand Champion, Atari Space Duel, Sega Buck Rodgers off the top of my head.

That's actually precisely what I need, thanks! I've added that to the wishlist as I've already burned through most of my money for the rest of the month until pay day.

Still need to afford to be able to eat! :-D

    Keep your cabs cooler

Two good threads to bring your cab temp down by 10 degrees.

Also best of luck but I won't be joining Facebook, maybe a Discord server would be a better alternative?

The variation between different chassis there is really interesting, have me wanting to get one of those infrared thermometer gun thingies to test out mine.

Yeah it's a shame so many of these communities are locked behind the Great Wall of Facebook. I don't have a Facebook account either, it's absolute brain rot.

Musashi_ - any chance of promoting this forum a bit and getting a few of the heads over here instead? 😁

    +1 for discord server tbh.

It's the IRC for the young kids these days. I manage a few forums and run a few bots for it from my server and honestly it's pretty fantastic.

I'm clearing out some my retro storage and have a Point Blank arcade in need of some woodwork on the base(it's a bit loose) and probably a look over the electrics. It takes up a good bit of space as a its a beefy machine. Is it worth doing it up and selling/trading on or should I just move it on as it is?

I'm kind of sick of it taking up space that could be used for another machine or some 3D printers. I'm sick of looking at it :)

    Any thoughts?

If I were you I'd power it on, test it out and if it's working sell it as is and working, if not sell it as is and not working.

Definitely no point sinking money into it if you're looking to move it on.

They're really large machines alright, quite the commitment footprint wise!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭dav09

It depends of a couple of factors. A few couple hundred quid as it sits depending on condition likely, maybe a bit more if just a loose base and whether working or not, you'd probably get close to a grand done up. If you did it up and were willing to send it to the UK it would be probably £1200/1400 fully restored again depending on the condition, if the guns are good, etc.

Could possibly be interested in it.

Gun games really need the space, if its you have limited space but is a holygrail game/machine - yea definatly fix it up. Limited space and if its just another game, I'd just move it on as is.

Now, if you had a warehouse, man yea surely keep it and put it on the list of projects. Might just increase in value even as a project to someone else down the line!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,918 ✭✭✭Steve X2

    cheers guys.

Yeah its just another game for me, not a grail. Fun for a while but not worth the space it takes up. I did get the upgrade board for Point Blank 2 to add some variety, but didn't install it in the end as I was missing some small control board for it.

I'll probably just move it on as is. I don't mind losing a bit of profit on it if it can stay in Ireland as enough of our machines have headed over to the UK in recent years.

Here's a pic from a couple years back when it was in my kitchen. It didn't get played enough to justify the space so went to storage and now currently in my garage at home.

Honestly, even if base is a bit off the general condition looks pretty good from that pic, topper is great on it. And not many around anymore of say. Brexit has made it harder for the guys in the UK to grab cabs so could be safe here although there is a northern route option :🤔 also Namco guns are great 😎

My thoughts of being able to throw money at someone for a 161-in-1 Vortex modded cart for the NeoGeo MVS (or AES) are dead. Seems that the cheap EEPROMs which had been used in the mod are thin on the ground, and the donor carts (V3 of the 161-in-1 cart) prices have gone through the roof!

Good news, the guy on Arcade-Projects.com is alive and has shipped out some carts.

There is another person on Neo-Arcadia.com I'm following based in Europe, and I do have a donor V3 cart…yea'd never know!
