    If you want something older with a bit of history that's closer to the Sega City then pick up an Aero City. From 1988 so only a couple of years after the Sega city was released and it's full steel rather than plastic Blasts and Astros. Might be more to your taste.

    Interesting offer from Ronnie/Rklok, not something I've seen him put out to the public before.

    Hi all

    We are filling a container with YAHOO acution stuff again and trying out if there is intrest for filling containers together with all

    If you are interested in buying anything from Yahoo auctions, its possible to add your auctions to this container.

    We can ship anything from Yahoo auctions to our warehouse in the Netherlands (cabinets, lot games, carparts, or anything else LEGAL you can find on Yahoo auctions)

    Example for the costs of buying a arcadecabinet :

    - Local shipping within Japan : arcadecabinet size is about 25.000 yen (depends on the item location)

    - Warehouse fee : 15% of the auctionprice

    - Handling fee : for arcadecabinetsize : 15.000 yen

    - Containershipping : cabinetsize is about € 250

    - Importtaxes are included

    - Local shipping from warehouse to EU adress : about € 200

    - Vat for private persons : 21% over the total costs

    - The auctions price needs to be paid with paypal or banktransfer before the bis is made by us

    - If the auction is lost the amount can be refunded immediately or kept for other bids

    Example for smaller items :

    - Local shipping within Japan :(depends on the item location)

    - Warehouse fee : 15% of the auctionprice

    - Containershipping : € 25

    - Importtaxes are included for videogames

    - Local shipping from warehouse to EU adress : depends on item

    - Vat for private persons : 21% over the total costs

    - The auctions price needs to be paid with paypal or banktransfer before the bis is made by us

    - If the auction is lost the amount can be refunded immediately or kept for other bids

    This container will leave in 4 weeks from Japan to our warehouse

    We are working on a easier website like BUYEE but we try to make a start like this

    Searching for items easy through BUYEE

    Hey o1s1n,

    I absolutely love Aero City cabs. However, I need a 4:3 CRT swiss army knife if you like; something that I can play my NAOMI hardware on (31khz) but also my med-res (24khz) and low-res (15khz) harware as well...

    …so I've pulled the trigger and bought a Sega Blast City.

    Adding the Blast City, my collection of cabs looks like this -

    • After Burner Climax Deluxe (original Sega, 2006);
    • Bartop JAMMA wired/pcb test rig;
    • JAMMA cab (for horizontal games);
    • JAMMA cab (for vertical games);
    • Outrun, stand-up (original Sega, 1986);
    • Pole Position II, upright (original Atari Ireland version, 1982); RESTORATION PROJ.
    • Sega Blast City JAMMA;
    • Space Invaders II, cocktail (original Taito, 1980);
    • Turbo Outrun, mini (original Sega, 1989). RESTORATION PROJ.

    ... Not to mention 50 pcbs. At what point in this game do you realise that things have gone too far?🤦😅

    I definitely need to down-size but I find it very hard to let go of arcade related stuff.

    he has done this for quite a while and it can work out expensive , i do know a few that used him to bring in a couple of cabs a few years ago and it does start adding up once you factor in getting it to your door but cant complain with having an option either.

    My collection of cabs will soon look like this -

    great collection ….we need pics !!!!😁

    Wow! that's some list. Is the Afterburner Climax all up and running? That's some footprint of a machine to have in a personal collection.

    Thanks man! Its an awful affliction. 😅

    I'm currently working towards getting a room/extension where I can keep it all together, in one place. For now though, the After Burner Climax DLX, Atari Pole Position II and Turbo Outrun cabs are all in storage. The rest of the collection is spread over two locations..

    Here is a sneak peek of the After Burner Climax DLX. The Sanwa monitor has since been serviced. The only thing to diagnose and fix now is the motor.. Then a seat belt is needed.

    Almost there, o1s1n!

    I am sharing ownership of the AB Climax with a friend of mine, but indeed, it is part of a personal collection. A group of four arcade collectors up North have been working together, bouncing off each other to get this thing up and running.

    Currently diagnosing the motor; we then need a seat belt and that will be it.

    Pretty stoked to have got the AB Climax DLX this far!

    That is an absolute grail machine right there, well done! Almost more like working on a small car when you get to that size of machine 😁

    Actually was that the non working one that was sitting on Adverts.ie for a while? thought that was a bit of a steal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 98 ✭✭Musashi_

    Yeah, that was me selling it...

    .... But I had second thoughts and couldn't let it go! 😅

    Indeed, there is a very fine line between love and madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

    That's a really nice collection you have going there fair play, for sure post some more pics when you get everything together. Anything else/top priority pieces you'd like to add to the collection down the line?

    As for the AB, I think the seatbelt is just a sensor so that connection can probably be bridged for private collection although probably less safe, I think I've seen them sold somewhere recently too NOS as I was thinking of getting a spare for my Cycraft (same one I believe).

    Thanks Dav!
    Sure thing, I'll post photos of everything together when the time is right. Until then I might post individual shots..

    We've actually chatted previously on the Irish Arcade Collectors and Gamers Facebook group. Joe here - I purchased the AB Climax off Alan. 👋
    I've shied away from posting on that FB group as the admin has kept the group public. I'd prefer to keep everything private, which is why I now much prefer posting on this forum.

    As far as adding more to my collection? Not a chance Dav; that's me done; finito; the end.
    If anything, moving forward, I will be greatly streamlining my collection and selling off stuff. I'm happy with my lot.
    I would have loved an '86 Outrun Deluxe (full motion) but that ship has sailed. You're looking at £15K/€18K + shipping to Ireland to buy one these days.
    I don't believe there's any '86 Outrun DLXs sitting in any Irish arcade operators storage anymore. From 2001 onwards I phoned around the length and bredth of Ireland picking up leads in search of a DLX. There used to be one in Salthill, but God knows what happened to it. I know there was an Outrun DLX in Bundoran, but I was reliably told that it has been dealt the sledgehamer treatment - smashed into smithereens. One in Portrush got smashed as well (I heard that from the horses mouth!) ...Man tears!..

    Thanks for the info about the seat belt Dav, this is very helpful. I'll contact Mo at Videoronics about an ABC seat belt. Failing that, someone on UKVAC is bound to have one.

    How is your Cycraft going? Is it almost ready for the floor at Level Up? You'll have to keep us posted when it hits the floor - I can't wait to have a go on it.

    Cheers,
    J

    Definetly do when you finish, wish you all the best with your build. And ah yes I remember that :)

    As for an Ountrun DLX, yes I'd say unlikley any on these shores still, maybe hidden away but most got shipped off to the UK, I remember one a few years ago maybe 7/8 years that Arcade Club got from here just when I began collecting cabinets. Yes it seems most cabinets here were smashed&junked over the years.

    The nearest thing to it on this island is probably what I have, Outrun Sit Down Standard Motion.

    IMG_20220627_115054.jpg

    It's more or less the same without the speakers in the seat and the lights on the back, it's the closest I'll get to one, was a lot of hassle shipping it from Italy, it is a project still, I tested a PCB in it and the monitor/game works but haven't worked out the motion yet, I can see the mechanism is there so thankfully that wasn't stripped. I also have the motion sequel to it Outrun 2 SP SDX.

    Unfortunately the Cycraft, Afterburner DLX and some of the bigger units won't fit into the building without full dismanteling, so that won't happen. I have a lot of cabinets in storage and a long term plan with them that the wheels are in motion, would be nice to have all of the major Sega DLX cabinets all operaing together at some stage here and open them up for play, although probably on a low-key basis to collectors for now.

    Such is the double edged sword of arcade collecting, you want people to come and enjoy the buzz around them but at the same time, bringing in the public brings in people treating machines poorly.

    Something like that Outrun Sitdown is almost a museum piece at this point. Seems criminal to just let randomers knock it about!

    while I tend to agree but this is exactly what they where designed for !

    In fairness that is true, most games are robust and built to handle roughness, during location tests they do a lot of testing around this. I've seen very little intentional damage to cabinets too over the years, I'm not very involved there anymore and honestly now to have a successful arcade business you really need to have food and drinks too which adds tonnes of complexity, costs (high breakeven point), drama, insurance etc. Actually a good bit of the damage I've seen is parents leaving kids run free and unintentionally brake things, as is an insurance risk. Would much rather do something lo-key with low costs without hassle, I don't really want to do it for big money/profit, rent for parties maybe or for private meets/events and not have the hassle/overheads+complexity of having to turn over 15/20k+ per week to just meet breakeven. But yeah I certainly don't want to keep machines locked up/hoarded forever, they have to be enjoyed by people like they were meant to but run it wisely.

    Would something like Heart of Gaming in the UK be feasible here, maybe on a smaller scale?

    Gaming is huge in Ireland as is the retro scene, it just seems very fragmented and there's no central meeting point really.

    Token was always absolutely jammed with people. If that was anything to go by, it could be a case of 'If you Build it, they will come'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

    I do miss Token, it was a pity it was so small and very food/drink orientated but I know well that this side of the business is what makes it viable so it makes sense business wise obviously.

    Yeah I'd like a model like that, probably would only work in Dublin however, and having a dedicated arcade gaming crowd is difficult to find as usually in a group a percentage will only come if you provide the food/drinks element, must be difficult to find somewhere central enough with enough space at cheap enough rent like HOG. HOG got lucky that is was formed by a dedicated group of gamers from the Trocedero when that closed and got a huge bunch of their machines too for cheap after, but still great they did all of that and has been a big commitment. It needs a lot of help/volunteers to make something like that work. Would wonder if an arcade club type venue would work here too in Dublin but someone very big/ambitious would need to take something like that on anyway.

    you know @davo09 the funworld /hungrylions model I think could work here quite well ?seperate eatery area that you can or not eat in ,dedicated games area with a few other bits to keep it ticking over. Its not reinventing the wheel, its a well tried model but its simple and works ,

    Its survived to this day and I say that when it was always the worst maintained arcade in limerick the manx tt in was pretty much unplayable for years without being fixed ,and it was always the same back in the 90's ,even some basic maintanence would have helped button fixing etc ,but either way it covered all ages interests and has always attracted people,its biggest saving grace as well back then was some of the games i.e after burner deluxe and the likes but it was always busy and has always been busy enough.

    There is no way an arcade could operate this day and age with out serving food & drink to survive . I saw that as a great sp for token.

    Their food actually was great and had a gteat reputation . It was symbiosis. One could not have survived with out the other and it introduced a large amount the new generation to (real)arcade cabs ,if you could call them that .

    Why would you just want a small arcade almost forcing out people except for the hardcore dedicated .

    Arcades of old weren't like that, full of all sorts ...tell me if ya ever went to arcade in the 80's or 90's and did not see a 5-6 year old kid hanging of the wheel of a driving game thinking he was playing or another cab or a few scumbags looking to fleece you.

    As a business venture food,drink and an arcade can't lose I think .

    There is a Lane 7 opened in dundrum , I've not been but they claim to have retro arcades .

    Also today I got excited when I saw this

    Screenshot_2025-03-14-19-26-30-461_com.android.chrome-edit.jpg

    However it appears it's just gonna be another pokey house .

    What is HOG btw ?

    HOG is Heart of Gaming in London. Its everything we dream of hah. I've been meaning to go for years. A proper arcade and gaming space run by enthusiasts.

    @Musashi_ if you need help with your ABC I can help. I know everything about that cab after refurbishing my own and have lots of spare parts. Your motor is probably fine. I bet it's the little rs232 converter board at fault.

    They link up for multilayer can you imagine the space needed? USA had a "super deluxe" model that was even bigger and moved in all directions. Still not a patch on Daves cycraft monster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 983 ✭✭✭dav09

    Yeah @geotrig definitely so. I always wondered was Funworld a sort of spin on the D&B or Chuck E Cheese type model but made Irish, they used to have at least 4 or 5 of these around the country at one stage with Limerick being the last one standing, still with a few retro games left too Time Crisis 2, Ghost squad, 18 Wheeler DLX, had lots more until about 7/8 years ago. It's still busy but mostly crane machines now. I supposed it's a take on the traditional FEC model, there's still a few scattered around the country, Planet in Ennis is similar too. But I remember in the 90s even up to the early to mid 2010s places like that been jammed many evenings each week with people enjoying all sorts of decent games but obviously do enough to make money. It's a shame how arcade games have gone, now generally people just want to play games with one or two buttons, arcades are afraid to take a chance on games as much of the new games coming out are junk. Although with Mai Mai officially launching in the west along with Taiko, a new Wanagan Midnight racer also rumoured to launch here, there may be hope yet.

    There's been a few new modern incarnations of arcades/bowling/food/vr models recently, I know for a fact some are not doing well here at all unfortunately, most of which have operators on a split % model, I think if done right there's probably a market for it for sure.

    I think looking across the pond at the UK, Gravity seems extremely busy whenever I go and are great modern arcades/experiences, as are the Namco Funscape ones I've visited. NQ64 seems to have a model that works too as do some other chains/FEC brands.

    Screenshot_2025-03-15-10-11-11-803_com.android.chrome-edit.jpg

    As for Lane7, yet to visit them but hope they're decent. But as for retro arcade games, considering their site has a Space Invaders in a Namco Pacman clone cabinet, yeah I wouldn't hold out much hope there.

    Also I believe a few of those SP DLX Afterburners made it over here too, huge yokes with big actuators for motion from memory. I believe Funtasia Betteystown had one, not sure if it made it over to their other arcade after it's closure.

    Hey all.

    My sega touring car cab has gone kaput again. So many issues with it over the years and thrown so much money at to keep it original .now ive decided I'll mame it .

    I was always reluctant as when I checked I would have to hack in new wheel and pedals .

    It seems there is a board now that will interface between mame and the sega drive board to allow original pedals and wheel to work with mame ....and force feedback .

    Has any one any experience with it .

    An ARDUINO UNO BOARD .

    Looks like a winner to me and if so I'll have all components of original cab working as should do and CRT except for board obviously.

    Yeah either that or the Arduino Leonardo interface .that actually looks better though ,seems it interfaces to allow exact arcade wheel and FFB whilst the Arduino oy simulates it. Anyway as I say I've not a breeze using them or even setting up a mame pc in a cab . Is that even done these days or have we progressed from a 30 year old solution with a crap pc and an iPac😂

    Are the monitors still working?

    I've been months trying to find time to MAME my driver cab. Different one to yours. I believe the touring car is similar to the Scud Race cab?

    On the basic level, I have 2 PCs with graphics card capable of outputting analogue video over DVI so I can use the CRTs. Although I think the PSU's are gone on both of those PCs, bizarrely. I'll probably have to sink money into them just to get them working again.

    Then it's the tricky part of hooking up the controls. People online seem to prefer swapping out the wheels and pedals with pedals/wheels from consoles, like XBOX since they work on PC too. Personally I'd prefer to keep all the original parts, but then you've to worry about FFB. You've to weigh up the pros and cons and see what you care about. If you keep swapping out too many parts, you may as well just get rid of the cab altogether and just get a couple of chairs and screens.

    Actually, on the topic of MAME'ing cabs, is anyone in The Retro Arcade Portal discord?

    They've been releasing a curated games pack. Basically drop it into your MAME PC and play on your arcade. They're releasing addons every month as well, with more games. Not sure if anyone is interested but it's good to let someone else handle all the work, with videos and screenshots and attract mode etc, but then you can't just add games you feel like. You've to request them to be added on the discord.
