In one of the pictures it looks like the reg is covered with black tape to hide the number? The picture of the tax disc was definitely taken at an awkward angle in order to conceal the reg number. I know the reg is visible in other pictures but this is something that is immediately apparent when looking through the pictures and it makes me wonder why you went to the effort of hiding it in the first place.

i was told by someone not to show the plate, i thought i had removed all the pics with the tape after reading this thread
    my bad
shouldnt listen to know it alls in the pub lol

Hi all, Going to be listing my car this week and this thread has been hugely beneficial! However, I am having trouble with the asking price, as this is my first time selling a car privately. I'm having a hard time deciding on an asking price, and was wondering if it would be appropriate to ask for people's suggestions on this thread? Or set up the advert and then ask for criticism?

nice car astrofool if i can sell mine i will give you a shout if its still available

may as well stick a link here to mine if anyone has any interest or feedback to improve the listing that would be much appreciated

Sold it today, starting getting more queries about it over the weekend, January was essentially dead for any interest in the car. Got close to asking (5% discount on asking price) which was about right for the car. Had one cheeky offer of €10,000 which I was able to dismiss out of hand.

    re johnk123:
I priced it based on other cars in the same category, taking into account dealers having an extra warranty (although you can get a 1 year warranty from carprotect for €400, so dealer advantage is mostly on trade in).

www.boards.ie/valuator and http://www.cbg.ie/whats-it-worth have good valuators for getting a guide price, not perfect however, silver cars would generally sell faster than more exotic colours, but it came up as lower price if silver was selected (plain black sold for more apparently), and I'm getting a Freelander 2, but the valuation on boards.ie would be mostly based on imports and commercial versions of the same car, rather than an Ireland based domestic use car.

I'd usually leave the plate on so they can check it for finance etc. Most ads include the plates these days.

That depends on how well the 19k Mondeo is priced against other similar Mondeos. It's easy to give you a high trade-in price for your car when the car your buying is priced high too.

It's reasonably priced with decent enough mileage
Most I'm looking at have 100k miles

No interior photos and up on Adverts.ie. Stick it on Donedeal.

    It is on donedeal already

Just make sure you do proper history checks on the car. If something looks too good to be true then usually it is.

God, how do you deal with time wasting bastard these days...

Some Polish fella came in to look at my car today. Looked at it and said it was crashed repaired! Wtf?! My car was never crashed or in accident. Never even a tip on anything.
When my friend asked him to show where he pointed at front side panel... Really?!

I am really considering at this point just buying cheap diesel and put car in to storage, until I sort out my millage situation.

Hi guys, Some of you may be able to answer me this. Does anybody know where I could pick up one of those counterfeit money markers in Dublin City today? I see a few online but won't be here by tomorrow afternoon when I need it.

    Thanks in advance!

As in the marker you scribble on a note and it changes colour if its fake?

Any stationary shop should have them, i'd imagine try Eason's or the likes would be your best bet.

You were dead right! Got one in easons, as a reference for anyone else.

I would have thought it would have been a much more specialised item!

I misread that the first time and thought it was a bit mad asking for a counterfeit money maker on a message forum!! :D:o

Hi guys. Trying to sell my car at the moment and getting very few enquiries. I've already reduced the price considerably to €2200 but still no takers. For some reason I can't include a link to the ad because I'm a 'new user'(?!) but would really appreciate some help or feedback. It's a very clean 2005 petrol Santa Fe 2.0 with 5 yrs service history, timing belt done, nct til October and tax til May etc. I did get a towbar with full caravan electrics fitted when I bought it to tow our caravan but I'm wondering if this could be putting people off (it's visible in one of the photos and I do explain its purpose)? Don't know what to do if that's the case as I'd prefer to be up-front with people rather than remove it. Anyways, any help or tips greatly appreciated and also when do I 'qualify' to be able to include a link to the ad, or is there another way to let you guys see it?

    Many thanks.

Guys any help appreciated, I've got my new car and I'm getting no bites at all, I know the tax could be a put off but the fact it's taxed until December means value wise it's probably one of the best in the country even comparing it to ordinary 2.0L, tbh I don't think it's the tax is the problem, it's because it doesn't have an MSport bodykit, don't know what to do, should I spend a few quid and put a bodykit on it, there's only so far I can drop the price, any changes I should make to the ad please let me know as I have to sell it as I'm driving the new one..

I doubt the tow bar is your problem, it's probably a bonus for most 4x4 buyers.

The problem is that the 2.0 petrol Santa Fe is 0 out of 10 desirable. If you compromised slightly and went for a 03 or 04 you'd get a clean diesel model for €2200 and 99.9% of people would rather the diesel in that car.

You have a decent bit of tax and test so this is the optimum time to move it on, but imo and I mean no inuslt to the car, i'd be advertising at €1800 and be prepared to accept offers over €1500 if you want it gone.

Did you advertise it on the likes of bmw-driver.net and bmwhaus.ie? A 530d is more an enthusiast's car as average joe won't look beyond the 520d.

That's excellent advice thanks. I agree with you on all points! However I've always understood that the diesel version of those early model SF's were known to be troublesome. I've had zero problems with that car. It's always been 100% reliable and that includes towing the caravan through France and the Netherlands!

I've just bumped the ads on Adverts and Donedeal so I'll leave it at €2200 for a day or two and see what happens. I did get some interest even at €2950 and even one offer of €2000 but nobody has yet come to view it. I have also made it clear in the ads that I'm open to reasonable offers.

If there's no move in a day or two I'll reduce it to what you suggest.

    Many thanks again.

These will only catch the absolute lowest quality forgery by the way. Banks aren't allowed use them anymore.

Would anybody care to critique my ad? https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/ford-mondeo-2-0-tdci-black-hatchback/11592275

Have had it on donedeal a couple of weeks, carzone and cbg since January and only had 1 call. Would appreciate any tips.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭MarcusMaximus

Just to say that I have now reduced the price as advised down to €1800 (see post no. 472). No calls so far but I'll keep the fingers crossed.

I'm still not allowed to post a link to my ad here in order to get some feedback. What's with that? How many posts do you need to make before you can put up a link? I've emailed support about this but have received no reply so far. Would really like to be able to let people see it..

It's priced on the high side. There are a few similar ones from dealers for the same money on carzone and they come with warranty.

    Hi All,

I just put my Focus up for sale and will follow this guide. Would anyone care to give me some feedback on the ad itself? :)

    Thanks!

    Pictures aren't great.
    Leave emigration out

Change title to 2012 Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 TDCi

Would not be mentioning that it's 95PS, Would not include the pic of the rear seat showing windey Windows.
Is the there a service history? Apart from the one you've just done

    I would suggest:

    Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi diesel
Very economical car, has 6 speed gearbox and stop-start - Road tax only €
Zetec model so comes with 16 inch (?) alloys, front foglights, colour coded bumpers, mirrors and door handles.
Air conditioning and rear privacy glass.
    Electric windows and mirrors.
Audio system has steering wheel controls, Bluetooth for phone and music streaming, and USB/audio inputs.
    Remote central locking with deadlocks.
Front, side, and curtain airbags with passenger airbag deactivation.
    Rear ISOFIX mountings.

Dunno if it has cruise control or auto lights/wipers, but if it has, mention it,

Recently had a full service by Tallaght Ford and comes with one year roadside assistance from service date. (Mention any other service history here)

Recently had 2 new tyres. Just NCT'd (include pic of sheet with name blocked out)

I am not interested in taking a trade in or swapping.

    Pictures wise:
Take the pictures in a nice uncluttered location (not saying your house isn't nice) you need to take pictures where the car is not blocked out, take outside pics from 8 angles, front, front right corner, right hand side, rear right corner, rear, rear left corner, left hand side, front left corner, working clockwise.
Take a pic from outside with the drivers door open showing dash/seats
Fold back the front seats and take a pic of the dash from the rear seats.
Pic of nct and service history showing 2 keys if you have them.

Lastly, if you really want to sell, put the car on donedeal and Carzone as well.

14500 is way too high. Here is one being sold by a dealer asking €13950.
    http://www.driving.ie/used-cars/Ford/Focus/1.6TDCI-5DR/201214505388232840/

Probably buy it for €13k straight with no trade in and get a decent warranty. Granted it has a little bit more mileage on it but still very low for a 4 year old diesel Focus and I cannot see someone paying more for no comeback on a private sale just because it has a bit less mileage on it.

There are a lot of similar Focus models for sale so the price needs to be very aggressive for it to sell. I'm thinking more around the €12kish mark.
