Oh I don't doubt the odds would have been crap. My gripe is that these odds probably have been generated post-match, which just seems ridiculous.

I'm not expecting to ever see that €899 again, but I should get something, surely?

To beat the dead horse one more time... this was their mistake, not ours.
Id be surprised if we even get an apology, i knew what i was doing but still, if they put me negative and the money lands in my bank account im keeping it and just ignoring the account from now on.

btw Its called palpable error in the industry. You can read more about it here.

    http://www.moremoneyreview.com/palpable-error-7227.html

I always thought it was something the industry used as a means of rectifying mistakes and is a generally accepted practice but I am not sure how it holds up in an actual court of law. So if they are still able to rectify the mistake they will use palpable error as a reason but once the money gets into your account I am not so sure how willing they will be to test the palpable error in a court of law to get the money back.

    Opr

Somethin like this happened before but on a much smaller scale, and guess what PP gave those affected by it? sweet **** all!

Would they chase the money if it lands in the bank, i.e debt collectors? Do they have any legal ground to get it back?

Yes it's obvious it was an error in this case but what's the cut off for them declaring that they made an error and just didn't make a wrong call themselves.

Had they been offering 1/25 instead of 1/50 to try and entice more punters into something can they declare it as an error if they lose??

There is a grey area in the terms and conditions and they use it to suit themselves.

They can do what they like really. You are perfectly entitled to complain to the IBAS but in this situation they will laugh at you. IF they situation was a lot closer then it would be worth a try but then again PP most likely would let the bet stand.

As HS said earlier and from my own experience, they are prone to paying out on stuff ups. Its just this was in a different league. I'd love to know the total figure this stuff up could have run into.

I just remembered a problem I had with PP a while back.

I got an email from them saying "do this survey and we'll give you €50 to play poker with". So, being Paddy Power, and not some dodgy website I was unfamiliar with, I did the survey and played some poker.

Needless to say, I treated it like fake money and wasted it. So I went from 50 to 0. No harm, no foul.

A few months later I decided I wanted to play some more poker. Stuck €10 into my account, and an hour later I had about €40 to transfer back into my Sportsbook and bet on some football.

Transfer didn't work the first time. Nor did it work the 18th time I tried, so I got onto the Live Help.

Eventually, after talking to the guy for 15mins, he tells me I'm not allowed to take my money because of the "€50 we gave you that time".

Apparently, if I wanted my money, I would have to deposit €100 directly into my poker account first, or gain a large number of PP points (which would have taken days of playing and 100's of euros gambled). This was the only way to "unlock" my cash. I managed to miss the small print that mentioned this when I did the survey.

Basterds wouldn't even let me take the €10 I put in back.

Don't know why I'm telling this, but I guess this is a "lets ****t on PP" kind of night.

Surely this is against the law? Paddy power offered the odds which was taken by punters, and then turn around and try say it was a mistake. Whats to stop them doing that on every bet they accept? Surely it's against the law???

  • Registered Users Posts: 757 ✭✭✭colly_06

I could close my a/c and keep the money but I don't want f*cking debt collectors calling into me :pac:

OK, someone give me the worst case scenario.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,844 ✭✭✭carlcon

The minus means nothing at the moment. It's just a computer accounting for missing funds.

The important thing is whether or not the money left their accounts and entered yours.

If you can check your bank account or paypal account online and see the money has been entered into it, all they can do is send you a letter or email, asking for the money back.

If the winnings haven't made it that far (ie, haven't left their own accounts), it's never going to leave their accounts, and your negative number will soon be replaced by whatever you would have won if the odds were 1/16, or whatever it is they're giving.

I'm not giving it back anyway, account can stay negative all it likes, won't bother me, although my accounts are getting limited at this stage.

Would my stake have been refunded if the bet lost? I don't think so.

Once money lands in my bank its going to the credit union

I didn't have a punt on this.. I was originally advising the lads that did to get on livechat ask for at least a free bet to be credited to their account as a goodwill gesture by paddypower.

I know it is within Paddy's T&C to void the bets but I think they should take some liability themselves when they make errors and a free bet for the value of the average bet by the punter would be a fair solution in such instances.

Taking such a case to IBAS and trying to decide what constitutes an error or just bad pricing by oddsmaker is probably best discussed in the legal forum.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭ft9

So it was up to you to give it back, they couldn't take it back?

Are you regretting posting about Palace +2?

Fair play for posting and not keeping it to yourself.

Has anyone been onto live help and asked what negative acc means?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,513 ✭✭✭seanhynes

im in the negative and have a bet staked from earlier thats looking good for the win, i wonder will the negative be taken down by the winning return. if it is im shutting down the account straight away

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭ft9

Id imagine that will be deducted from your outstanding balance. Do let us know. How long before the result?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

Yeah, it should automatically be added to your account which is in the red so it will just eat that up. Let us know the craic anyway.
