I just heard on the radio coming home that Joe Higgins, Clare Daly and Joan Collins are gonna have to pay back the expenses they spent travelling to places outside their constituencies to protest against the household charge.. :D:D
It this something that they are doing voluntarily or are they being forced to do it?

I think they will fight this and maybe win.
Even with that their expenses are still smaller than all the Dublin based T.D.'s so where were they travelling to?

Is the legal opinion in or just somebody speculating?

They way they said it on the radio, they are NOT ALLOWED under Dáil expenses rules to spend money on travel outside of their constituency.. Joe Higgins was on whinging about it, but shure that's nothing new.

Socialist TD Joe Higgins is to seek legal advice after the Houses of the Oireachtas confirmed that members can only claim expenses for travel to and from their constituencies.

Leinster House authorities had sought legal advice after it emerged that members of the United Left Alliance, including Mr Higgins, were using travel expenses to attend meetings called to oppose the Household Charge.
In a statement, the service also suggested that members might have to repay expenses and stressed there was a requirement to recompense where appropriate.

Would be a real step forward if gay couples were given same rights as straight couples in lifetime of current government imo. They are all very negative tonight about it though.

Some row on Newstalk tonight between VB contributor John McGuirk and Niall O'Dowd, about the American election... That McGuirk lad is a smart boy, well able to debate.

Yeah, but I thought the Socialist Party were waiting for the Public Accounts Committee to come back to them when they have received a legal opinion on the matter.

Clare Daly did say last on VB last night that she would have no issue repaying the money if it was found to be outside Dail rules.

To answer the first part of your question, she's not bad, she always seems very serious though. It would be a long evening listening to hear talk about Constitutional reform, and the like.

The show is going down the tubes rapidly.
You need a good row to keep the interest. (maybe even a thump thrown :D)

I'm getting the distinct impression that the Irish Independent really doesn't like left-wing politicians very much. Awful rag.

I like John McGuinness and I think he's a good guy.. but why would you have a Fianna Fáiler carrying out the investigation in to what happened "that night"... Why doesnt he just ask all the other members and ex members of his party???
