Superficially that sounds like a really stupid comment, but actually I know exactly what you mean.

Also I said that Justin will be forgotten within a short period of time, Take That are still going strong 20 years on.

Still strong because of their new music, right? ;)

As El Pron said we need to let go of the Take That argument now, so yes I will leave it at that strong because of their new music.

Back to the topic of unpopular music opinions.

    Frusciante didn't make the RHCP.

    Ha, fair enough.

Here's an opinion that's so popular, it might become unpopular; music with guitars, pianos, or a combination of both, is fundamentally better than all other music.

That's, erm, interesting. In what way is it fundamentally better? From my own view no form of music is 'better' than another as such.

Here's an unpopular opinion of my own: I think Jason Newsted was the best bass player Metallica ever had. In fact he was too good for Metallica. If you want an idea of how good he really is listen to the Flotsam and Jetsam album Doomsday For The Receiver. It's just a pity Metallica never let him play to 1/10th of his abilities in case he overshadowed Cliff Burton.

    I like ABBA :(
Heard this one? Never finished, different people piecing it together, great sax on it courtesy of the guy who guested on Gerry Rafferty's Baker St. There's a bit of a hiss on the track, but not a bad song.

That's confusing the medium with the message. Saying that guitar and piano based music is better than all other music is going to deprive you of a lot of really fecking great tunes that are out there...

Deprive me? I said one was better than the other. I never said I don't listen to other types of music!

Sorry, your statement seemed to suggest you dismissed music made on other instruments

The guitar is by far the most overrated instrument in existence.

Nah, one's better than the other. It'd be like me saying that "anything that Noel releases will be fundamentally better than anything Liam releases." It doesn't mean that I won't be listening to the Beady Eyes' next release!

Apart from a few great songs, Bob Dylan isn't all that great...at all.

    Guitar solos are for hippies.

Yes because solos are the measure of every instrument.

Having said that, no instruments are inherently better or worse than any other.

While Bassoon and Contrabassoon are criminally underrated!

They aren't but after listening to a list like this I can't see why anyone would think guitar music is overrated.

    Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
    Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird
    Queen - Killer Queen
Led Zepellin - Stairway to Heaven
    Deep Purple - Highway Star
    Stone Roses - Love Spreads
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Guns 'n' Roses - Sweet Child 'o' Mine/ November Rain
    Oasis - Little by Little
    Van Halen - Eruption
Coldplay - Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall
    Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Rage Against The Machine - Bullet In The Head
    Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
    The Eagles - Hotel California
Thin Lizzy - Still In Love With You
    Metallica - One
    Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
    Pearl Jam - Alice
AC/DC - Let Ther Be Rock

Because most of that list is the exact same type of guitar playing ;)

you forgot boring! Or was it implied.

Edit: Christ the eagles, who the **** listens to the eagles.

Not boring... I prefer 'safe'. Having said that 99% of modern bluesy noodling is safe, boring guitar workout stuff, but Maggot Brain is fantastic.

But then I'd like to recommend an alternative version ;)

More people than how many listen to Joe Dolan I can tell you that much.

I wouldn't say guitars are overrated one bit. There's such a wide range of things that you can do with electric guitars and bluesy noodling is only a small portion of it.

Take Glenn Branca for example who experimented with unconventional tunings and playing. He was one of the biggest influences on Sonic Youth and alternative rock.

Or Slowdive who produced some of the most amazing guitar sounds I've ever heard and used guitars to create a huge wall of sound.

Ummmm lemme think now... There's that one in that song by that black guy with the perm.... That's all I can think of. It was ok.

And maybe my favourite guitar player ever, Ronald Jones

Most overused anyway. And since this quote has there been a single song referenced that doesn't involve electric guitars with overdrive or distortion?

For an instrument that helped spawn so many styles its been hampering creativity for years.

Nah, poor musicians hamper creativity. There are zillions of musicians who make synthesisers and drum kits and whatever else sound rubbish too.
