I dunno if it's been mentioned before or how unpopular it is here, but Adele is RUBBISH. Yes, she's got a good voice, but that's about it. A lot of people have good voices. She can't write songs, and the songs she does write all sound the same. The lyrics are utter cack, and to be honest, I can't believe she's gotten away with it. She seems incapable of writing a song that isn't a cheesy ode to a lost love or some such rubbish, and uses every clichéd line in the book. She doesn't have any grasp on the art of story-telling, and her lyrics lack any real detail. For supposedly "deep" content, the lyrics are very vague and don't have any real personal touches to make them relateable - it's all just "I love you so much and now you're gone" in a million different ways, but no details to make it believable, therefore I don't believe a word of what she sings. It sounds like she wants to be a great writer of love songs, but doesn't really know how to write a good song. She's basically a watered-down, inoffensive, easier to market, less talented version of Amy Winehouse.

On the issue of the Rat Pack, the were all amazing and I love them all for different reasons, but Frank Sinatra will always be the best of the group. Such an incredibly expressive voice and an still an inspiration in music.

I never really got Adele myself. I think you will find it is mainly with the people that do get into her music who realise just that, there is nothing there really. Her lyrics also use very simple english, none of us want to be forgotten if we thought an ex was the one and we all know sometimes it hurts in love. I would be hardpressed to associate an Adele song with a girlfriend or someone who meant a lot to me, there really are better writers of love songs out there who have much more substance.

I heard somewhere Adele is getting singing lessons. Had no idea what the story was with that. She should be focusing on writing more concise and less generic/sympathetic/mainstream-orientated songs.

Here's a good article about Adele.

No kind of North American beer is acceptable, only generic bland Euro macrobrews will do :pac:

There's one of her songs where I swear to God it sounds like she hits the frequency of someone squeaking their finger on a balloon. Like that other poxy band years ago that had a book of cliches as a lyric sheet, 'Come Back to What You Know' being one of their songs. Singer sang at the exact frequency I make throwing up.

How can a bleedin' album get into the singles charts? Rock music has been dead over here since about 2007. There isn't even one rock band in the top 40 singles charts now.

Just because there isn't a rock band in the top 40 doesn't mean that rock music is dead.

Florence and the Machines version of Last Christmas is worryingly making me believe that the original song is actually pretty good! In fact its probably up there with Travis' cover of Hit Me Baby One Last Time.....

The Pistols had no "ideas" about conformity or anything for that matter, their words were nothing more than adolescent drivel, their lyrics will show you that. Or watch a Lydon interview, especially around the PIL era, he hadn't got a clue what he was talking about, he made up flimsy ideals on the spot.

    He was a nihilist--hence views.

A nihilist, fuck! I mean say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it's an ethos!

Dude you have not heard their last album, barr the lead single (The Flood) nothing else on the record is like anything Take That have done since their reunion or in the olden days.

Yes there are the first time fans who listened to Take That in the 1990s but they have made many more fans too. I am 20 now so I was obviously too young to appreciate it the first time around when I was only 5 during their split.

But their fanbase has grown enormously. Its a huge change going from arena-sized venues, which they did in the 90s to Wembley Stadium now.

Its actually a poll, voted by the British population.

It gets better, as you read back through this thread there are numerous people who came out as Take That fans. No one said anything about the likes of Westlife, N*Sync and Blue, which again shows Take That have a stronger fanbase with serious music fans.

I know this post in is a couple weeks old but reading through this thread and reading the statement in bold I had to say this...

The Sun does not speak for the British population, it speaks for the idiots that watch X-Factor, TOWIE, Geordie Shore and anyone interested in the daily habits of Katie Price.

I can fully understand Kings of Leon's popularity.

Red Hot Chili Peppers I love with a passion. One of the best live acts and they are thankfully making a return trip to Dublin in the next 6 months. Maybe not as good without Frusciante but they still rock.

    JB, no he is not.

Can't sing, can't dance, can't play etc etc.

Regarding his longevity, the kid will crash and burn.

I would be surprised if even my sister knows who JB is within 2 years from now and she's a diehard:P.

TBS were one of Englands greatest bands, sadly unappreciated by the majority. Paul Heaton is a songwriting genius.

Take That can sing, dance and play. Thats the difference, Justin is just an average teenage kid popular with the ladies who got lucky in the music business.

Also I said that Justin will be forgotten within a short period of time, Take That are still going strong 20 years on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭rcaz

Can we give the Take That thing a rest? It's been argued and argued and nobody's agreeing with anyone :pac:

do you really think that? im a big bieber fan(more than i should be ha) but I dunno, i guess its possible but really doubtful. mayb your exagerrating 2 years but i can't see it happening. i disagree that he can't sing dance etc. but even if he can't doesnt matter now it mattered back in 07 when he was just a kid singing chris brown songs on youtube. i see bieber becoming a bit justin timberlake, decline in popularity but respected as an r&b artist

The Beautiful South were actually a guilty pleasure of mine! Funnily enough though I dug out one of their CDs only in the last couple of months to give it a spin, it was promptly put away again - my early teens was a confusing time... :pac:

I was never a fan of Sting either now that I'm at it - not at the same blood boil level as Simply Red or UB40 however...
