This evening I fitted two bulbs to my footwells in my car. The holders were already in place, I'd hate to ask how much Ford would have asked for if you were getting them.

If anyone is driving a focus, check it out.

It's only the mk2.5 onwards that has them bulb holders. There a nice addition to the footwells. Have you installed leds anywhere else?

In other news, I got the other 2 remaining chrome interior handles for the passenger doors installed, which completes the interior for now. :)

I still think you can get the holders and fit them to a mk2 as I believe there is a wiring loom hidden, that would attach to the holder. Nice addition though.

Havent installed LED's anywhere else, I did hear that there was an extra bulb holder and speaker in the boot but I didnt have a proper look yet

    Did install the DRL's though

Am I right in thinking they're linked to the indoor lighting (ie. they turn on when the doors are opened etc) ?

Much effort involved? Might look into putting them into the A3, some subtle lighting in the footwells might look well (when the footwells are cleaned).

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,015 ✭✭✭✭Mc Love

Yeah they are linked to the indoor lighting, however they turn off when the engine is turned on, and when you lock the car.

And tomorrow I'm finishing up the racking in the back.

The bumpers on my beloveds 12 year old Freelander had gotten a bit faded and patchy.

    Started like this:

    Masked off and degreased:
    169723.jpg

A couple of coats of paint:
    169724.jpg

    Final coat applied and unmasked:
    169725.jpg

    All back together:
    169726.jpg

Hopefully this will last; I've used a lot of polish on these bumpers, but it only ever lasts a few days before getting patchy again. The painting was a last resort.

The whole front, including the wheel arches, used 1/2 a bottle of degreaser, 1/2 a pack of cleaning wipes, and 2 cans of spray paint from Halfords, total cost around €28. I had done the wheel arches a couple of nights ago; total time took about 2 hours, most of which was watching paint dry!!

I'll tackle the back over the weekend.

Did you use plastic primer ?

The stuff their instruction say to use is a degreaser/cleaner to prepare the bumper, so that's what I used. The paint itself was for plastic bumpers only. The paint took fine on the sample a couple of days ago (one of the wheel arches), possible because they aren't a smooth plastic bumper.

If I had gone the colour-coded route I would have had to use primer; part of the reason I didn't colour code, as I was afraid of screwing it up. Would have look a lot better, though.

EDIT; would plastic primer make a big difference? I'm retarded when it comes to this stuff.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭Hal1

It would. The paint can have a reaction and bubble/blister. I got some Upol plastic primer in halfords for a few yo's. It should be fine.

SHould be ok, I thought you used normal paint, if its specific for plastic trim and no primer is specified than happy out.

Today I was bored so I decided to take out my spare wheel and toolkit and give it a clean. I also scrubbed the spare wheel well and cleaned out many years worth of Christmas trees and all the muck that had built up during that time.

Was strangely satisfied when I was done.

Had my first crack at giving the car a service.
Was long overdue. I've had the car for the last 8Kmiles/since March, the oil filter was warped it was that clogged, the air filter was black, and the spark plugs were covered in rust.
I also discovered that the sump nut was damaged so I replaced that too.

I washed the Corsa for the first time. Ended up using wet wipes. Came up well but the bonnet is still cloudy.

Replaced my headlights with Philips Xtreme Power, and while I was doing that I decided to try and change one of my DRL LED's as there was some water damage. Was fair tight but managed to replace them - all happy now :D

its a pioneer ts-wx77a , its a space saving subwoofer designed for pickup trucks and the boots of small cars , its about 8cm high so just fits in , it has 2 16cm drivers in it and all sorts of crazy air channeling to make its 200w sound like a bigger sub , I was surprised how well it did , it easily rivals the 800w Mutant sub I had in my old jeep

In terms of loudness, theres very little difference. You have to increase the wattage by crazy amounts to increase the decibels significantly. Although 800w is 400% the power of the 200w sub, in terms of noise, its only about 5% louder. I think its something like for every doubling of watts, you get an extra 3dB.

I would have thought that the physical depth required to recreate low bass frequencies would not make a slim subwoofer possible. That's amazing!

Just found this thread… so the following wasn’t done “today” but in the last few weeks..

Replaced the dull & boring old fuel cap with the much cooler older version that would have come on the car the year before

    IMG_0928.jpg

    IMG_0934.jpg

I replaced the aftermarket steering wheel that was in her when I bought her… it was 10”’s across, I swear it was like driving the old Atari car games in Bray.. much nicer 13” Grant jobbie in there now

    IMG_2374.jpg

Replaced all the shocks with shiny new adjustable ones… made a massive improvement to the ride

    IMG_2370.jpg

    IMG_2379.jpg

Also replaced both Uni's as she had a nasty vibe that came in at motorway speeds
