Great result for cork,be interesting to hear how desmond and cooper get on.

Ollie Dempsey, Cooper and Brendan Ring did the damage according to the radio.

have zero sympathy for counties who postpone their championships while they are still playing intercounty.

I agree to a point but a lot of ordinary club hurlers will suffer and they had no part in it.

Its unfair to them.Espicelly if weather like this wknd.

    Cooper surely deserves cork recall?

The more i look at the football set up ,the more less confident i am,a huge ask for them to hit the ground running.

The u21 team are the ones id have most confident in.

As regards the hurling, the u21s wont do much .The seniors and minors will have a lot of hope.

Why do you say that about footballers lad?

My 2c is that I found the appointment of Cuthbert a strange one. I am happy with backroom team though.

Out of all the four grades of cork football teams next year ,the only one i have confidence in and belief, based on what i see in front of me is the u21 team.

Their the only team out of the four with the right blend of management and talent availble.

The minor management i dont have much faith at all.Token appointments.

The Juniors after winning last year have to field a brand new team.

Senior management is totally inexpierencnd, not one has real expierence ,not to mind success,to a degree Mcarthy is closest.

A huge amount of pressure is on ronan mccarthy as the coach now.Cuthbhert more or less said that is he role.No intercounty expierence,at underage.

I met a load of people involved in coaching and playing the last week and are really not confident at all for next year.

They wanted cleary and james Mccarthy.A lot of talk is giving credit to cuthbhert for overseeing the development squads.

A huge ovesight being missed in that keith ricken of vincents, cit had a huge role to play in that also.

James Mccarthy has been involved in a lot of development teams,in actual coaching.Maybee im wrong but im sure he was involved when the u16 won munster in 2011.

My fear is that cuthbhert like i said from the start, was always going to get the boards vote ,if has poor two years, will nt be put under any pressure, but the fact he is liked ,he will get as much time as he wants .

The board if this set up fails, wnt acknowlege it, and will speak words like transition, time, process to be learned ,its young management team etc.Its so easy to predict what will be said,as its same old stuff. And deflection is put on how good dublin and kerry are etc rather than look within, and question why were not at the top of the table instead.

When the harsh reality is this golden generation needs to win sam within three years or the opportuinty will be lost.

Its hard to c how such a young inexpierenced set up ,can inspire this team.I admire cuthbherts bravery, but my view is that the guys he picked, are great profile, popular men,but no track records at all. These guys look they possess some traits as managers but they could be ruined in a sense thrown in at the deep end ,and if they fail will find it hard to get back to teams at intercounty .

These guys should have been earmarked and allowed learn the trade at underage rather than be thrown in at the deep end against jason ryans, mickey harte, jim mcguinness ,eammon fitzmaurice, cian o neill, donie buckley ,ed coughlan etc.

Cuthbhert outside of cleary,i felt was the best option, considering ricken ruled himself out, ryan or english were never in contention.

But im very suprised by the make up of the backroom team.

Even limerick have brudair ,who was involved with ned english and drom broadoard, munster club title.

I have great confidence in u21 next year. From what i have heard, prepartions are first class.A few trials have already taken place.

Hayes and gene o driscoll are good coaches, proven at club level and are well in tune with whats out their.

The talent next year has a good blend of expierence from last year ,around six or seven from the extended panel and lads just out of minor. It hasnt been finalised yet.

The half back line is going to be so competive, kevin crowley, conor dorman(senior club this year)stephen cronin a super talent,is year at u21,o driscoll, trevor horgan and michael cahalane , fulgnatii nemo also their ,has lots of options.

Niall hayes is prob the best option for full back.Kevin flahive, is a good prospect, overage for minor i think, with kieran histon, kevin o neill bound to be in contention.

Midfield will have ian maguire, second year, and played last year just out of minor.

He is certain to start.Peter kelliher, sean kiely, depending on who they choose at half back ,michael cahalane could feature.

Mark sugrue superb in hurling against tipp and last year bar one game, great for the footballers ,is sure to be centre forward.Hes leadership, workrate and expierence like along with cadogan and ,maceoin will be vital to cork against tipp at home if we meet,or kerry away.

Throw in ryan harkin ,a fantastic footballer, played intermediate for mallow, who can play midfield, hes clubmate killian o connor , Cathal vaughan(a real real talent for senior) they have loads of talent.

Alan cadogan and dan mac eoin are certain to start if injury free and in form, two real potent full forwards will able to win their own ball and score.

Aidan moyinhan, canovee,if he doesnt go to rubgy ,Maceoins clubmate jack bushe ,could all do a job.

Michael hurley ,may be a bit young ,still a minor, but may be on the extendf panel.
Ian maguire while still a minor featured as a sub at u21.

Speaking of extended panels Mark hefferanen is a good athlete and footballer ,on the extened panel last year could feature again.Im sure their are many other players out their that will play themselves in to contention.

Cork will if they meet kerry have to go to kerry.Kerry are bound to sooner or later make the breakthrough,as darragh o se is a shrewd coach.I rememember years ago he said colm o neill and david gould were two of the best young forwards in cork and needed to start for cork.Counihan after failing to c what others could, finally started colm.

    Gould done hes cruciate.

Tippereary will have the bulk of their minor winning team a few years ago.U21 is harder to win than the minor the way its set up ,but i think their the best placed cork team to win a trophy.

The one positive is the seniors have kerry at home.

I look at the minor set up,and the less said the better.Kerry move forward with jack, tipp still making great strides,we take ten steps back.

The u21s depending on the draw could have to beat tipp and kerry. The seniors and minors could only have one big test in munster with the safety of the backdoor ,yet the u21team seem better equipped to win Munster.

Blackrock in the County semi final beat Newcestown 3-16 to 2-8.

They play Mallow or Midelton sat two weeks. As expected ,they beat Eirns own handy.

Lehane on fire, four games in a row ,he was even taken of at 45 min, still got 1-6 from play,1-11 in total .

In two senior and two u21 games hes got around 5 goals and surely close to 40 points.

    Unmarkable at the moment.

Kilbrin v castlematyr refixed sunday wk .Lawton should be back.

The county final aint being shown n tg4 sunday.

Incredible honesty from Conor. Thanks for sharing Rebel Girl.

That was an excellent read, thanks for sharing.

The fact that he was so close to taking his own life is scary... as well as the fact that professional people hadn't a clue how to help him at first. I've thought about the whole thing of mental health/depression a lot in the last year or two and I really think that getting the general public to understand is a big step in getting those people suffering to open up, and getting help.

I mean I have no idea what it's like, he even says that he is unable to describe it...but at least he gives a sense.

And hugely encouraging that he has come out the other side, I doubt he thought it was anyway possible originally.

Does his peice deserve its own thread I wonder?

    Spread the word.

I mean maybe it might help someone else here.

I suffered depression 2 years ago around this very same time. I wrote about it in soccer fourm after Gary Speed died and pledged people who suffer to go out and get help.

Listen guys and girls if you do feel down trust me help is only around the corner. So many caring people in this world trust me. people will listen. Nothing to be ashamed of, but you have to look for it. People might not know.

Cusack story is so true. Its actually a ****ing frighting experience

Id say the thread would be followed alright, not a bad idea.A cavan player spoke bout hes problems earlier in the year.Fair play to him,for talking out.

Good to hear you got through it and recovered lad.

This interview is not one i am looking forward to in the sense ,it could be a tough watch, but at the same time ,it is something i will watch ,as to understand more bout this issuse ,and how tragic it is.

In times like the last week ,you think of Former Cork hurler and UCC coach Paul O Connor(RIP) who was lost last year.

    Fair play to Conor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,276 ✭✭✭thinkstoomuch1

That was just unbelievable, such raw honesty, and emotion.

You could see the pain in hes face,he held it together well .

Fair play ,a very brave interview on tv.

It really shows the troubles of some.

Kissane was a good honest player ,commitment, and fitness,in terms of endurance ,and engine wise i would say the best on the current panel.I would not be suprised to hear he takes up some sort of endurance activity as a hobby down the line. He's stamina is second to none.

Im suprised he didnt stay for another year.I think he made the right call though.

Best of luck to him in hes new buisness.

Fair play to him and Noelie for going out on their own terms. It must of been a hard call to make.

Canty and Alan O Connor, great servants also, should do likewise.

    .

To be honest I think it was the right call, great player but I thought his legs had started to go over the last year or so.
    Best of luck to him

Massive thanks to Paudie Kissane for his service to Cork and also to Conor Cusack for highlighting this illness that affects so many people.
Well done to both of them.

Douglas and Na piarsaigh u21 semifinal sunday morn,at Ballinlough in the city division.

The winners play Blackrock(already in the county final, nominated as city reps and rightly so).

Should be a good game.Douglas be expected to win, after beating Barrs in extra time ,7 goals they got.

It be a better final if douglas and blackrock,in terms of cork underage talent on show. That final and the county final with the Rockies and Midelton or Mallow be two great games.

Douglas have Mark dolan (minor)two goals monday ,aron ward, mark o connor, alan cadagon(u21 prospects next year).Conor Kingston,Kierans son is playing.

Douglas, midelton, blackrock, are bound to be the real contenders at senior the next few years. Can only be good for Cork hurling,as more competitve the better.
Na piarsaigh or newtown once they get their house sorted will be their abouts.

Cork club hurling needs a shake up,and hopefully midelton will beat sars sunday and start it.

The barrs have a long road ahead.

The standard of club games is poor enough at senior ,but underage is top quailty.

A big ask on Joyce, plays senior league q final at 3 sat against Newtown then less than 24 hrs later has to play another game.

Both are big games in terms future development for the club.Winners play Midelton in semi.

Darren o connell is in goal.A top prospect.Cork have such an abundance of top ,real quailty goalkeepers,he may not make it,but that doesnt mean he isnt good enough.Patrick collins is in ahead of him at the moment.

Its a shame its on in the morning,it clashes with the Kilbrin castlematyr game.

Sunday is an awful day if your both a hurling and football fan.A feast of hurling, both a huge football game,in context Cork club football.

Dr crokes and Haven on in killarney.

Im stuck between a rock and a hard place ,nt sure which to go to.

Toss a coin.Either way Sunday can't come fast enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,044 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

Ill head to county final this weekend anyway.

Do you need to consider whether to go to an all east cork final or not.especially sars and midelton!

Very tempting along with u21 hurling ,but then any time a cork football team play7 killarney is special occasion espiceally when u have cream of crop,in club football in both counties, both clubs dominated club scence, since 2011, and ucc when beat haven were half a team of kerry men with casey who played then against them.

To see Cooper the Master and Hurley ,pretender to be,on the same field, worth alone to c.Id love to be at both.

Hurley young brother cd even c game time.A special talent also.
