Mine was chugging along yesterday but switching to the good old Ukraine knocked the kb/s into the hundreds.

I hate to be spamming this bloody thing, but it's really helpful. I think it's been banded around too much though, seeing as I was only getting 500kb/s with the good old Ukraine about an hour ago. Anyway, here goes. this will be the last time I post this image in this thread.:rolleyes:

The AI in CoH is better, and the missions are time limited missions where the fighting is close quarters, as opposed to buildmassivearmy with no time limit in C&C4.

I played it cos it was C&C4. It was good, but one level, I knew there was a build up coming, so I amassed a huge force, knocked over the last building, expecting the map to expand... but no. Finito. Nothing. That was the end of the level.

Well downloaded gta4 finally.


Have to say it so much better then ps3 version I had... It does not look like ass in a first place! Surprised how well cars control Om keyboard too. Ussually ita pure ****!

Even on my old pc it's still looks waaaaaaaay better then console. I think I will give it more time and maybe finish it this time?

Still waiting for mine to complete downloading.

My main complete about the Xbox 360 version wasn't how it looked but how poor the frame-rate was. What kind of FPS are you getting?

I remember playing C&C4 before. It was dreadful. One of the first missions has you defending the Scrin tower (which isn't even in the map). This was mostly a tutorial and you repaired some turrets and called in airstrikes on targets. But then near the end of the level they're like
"Oh you should put an engineer in in this walker to capture it because you might be needing it nudge nudge wink wink."
And then you're told that you should build two bunkers to defend against nod attacks. Anyone with half a brain is expecting the map to expand and that you're going to have to hold off the attack. So you build the two bunkers and...
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
You win from building two bunkers! Capturing the avatar mech? Utterly pointless. Nod is scarred away by your two mighty bunkers and evidently they didn't even bother to model the tower you're supposedly defending or at least they didn't put it into that map.

Then Kane rings you up and calls you! He wants you to join his side, he's clearly very impressed by your amazing bunker-building skills. Then your commander calls you (apparently she was spying on your calls, how nice) and says not to join Kane because he's a murderer. And if you join Kane's bunker building alliance she just lets you walk away. She just lets you leave without having you arrested or courtmartialed or anything for disobeying a direct order.

The next mission (if you choose Nod) has you escorting three buses of civilians which your wife is on (yeah you have a badly acted wife). While escorting the buses you go about fifty feet and down a ramp, then a cutscene kicks in. The buses stop for no apparent reason, then some militia show up and start throwing firebombs at one of them. My tanks, which are right next to the buses just ignore the militia for no reason and then your wife pops up and unconvincingly shouts "YOU DID IT HONEY I LOVE YOU!". After being firebombed for about ten solid seconds the bus finally explodes and then a few seconds later your wife looks over the side with a shocked face (apparently having just noticed all the explosions). Then you're allowed to continue.

Also the GDI forces that are friendly to you at the start of the level start attacking you at some point for no reason.



So yeah long story short I bought it because it was on sale and I'm an idiot.

I turned aa to lowest possible 1650x1050 with med to high everything and on that gta4 benchmark I got 34 avg fps.

Plays really smoothly, you get some lower fps but nothing that you would clearly notice and be annoyed about. My pc is 5 years old and it can run gta like this. I am very happy!

My brother tried running GTA 4 recently. First we upgraded the GPU to a 6770 from an IGP - his framerates went from 5 to a 30 but still hit and miss. I could see the problem though was rendering CPU effects. We swapped out a 1.7Ghz Quad Core Athlon with a Phenom II X4 3ghz and it's screaming now. That Phenom only cost $100 too.

Mine is happily staying up between 400-600kb/s connected to Ireland, possibly because everyone has turned to the Ukraine?

ah PC gaming.. $9 for a game, $200 on hardware upgrades to play it!

One game I'd recomend getting is Altitude. Not the cheapest game on steam at the moment but a very good indie game for less than €5

Its a class based 2d multiplayer game where you control a few different type of planes with a couple of different game modes, DM, TDM, TBD (team base destruction) and ball.

TBD is where you are trying to bomb the enemies base as they try to bomb yours

ball (probably the most popular game mode, my fave anyways) is like a game of soccer with the planes where you can pass and shoot the ball to score into a goal.

Pretty good community on it too. It doesnt suffer from empty server syndrome that alot of indie multi players do.

It runs on anything too, it'll even play on my acer aspire one if i turn the graphics down.

If anybody has any questions about it let me know and I'll try answer them. Im not sure what my name in it is something like -={8}=- witness [IRL] so if you spot me feel free to add me!

Can someone give me a short version of the differences between SF4 and SF4 arcade edition? Is the arcade edition worth 2x the price?

I have this game and still go back to it. Loads up instantly and is genuinely really good fun. I don't know a single person who has gotten this game that didn't think it was a really good investment.

The main difference is there is 39 characters to choose from instead of 25.
Other difference include all characters having a theme tune instead of only half of them.
More stages.
Return of the bonus stages, these are rubbish anyway.
Improved lobby making and match making systems. Better online modes.
Replay channel.
More optional DLC costumes.
Balance changes to all characters, but these are obvious more to the hardcore players.

Main difference is that AE will have an active community where as
Street Figher 4 is virtually a dead game online. No one will be playing vanilla SF 4 any more.

SSF IV AE is the 3rd version of Street Fighter 4 (and it includes the second version anyway, Super Street Fighter 4.

SSF IV AE has one of the most active gaming communities in Ireland if not these most active. Head over to the fighting game forums to have a look if your interested.

Dont want to steer it offtopiic, but in 5 years I haven't upgraded my pc even once. Was able to play any multiplatform game on waaaaaaay better frame rate and waaaaay better graphics. Still can run any multiplatform game on better settings then any console. If console lifespam is still anather 5 years, then my pc is good for 10 years for one of payment...( excluding awesome pc exclusives )

Pc gaming is not as much expensive as consoles, alot of myths and people who know jack**** make silly rumors...

Never has been and I dont think it will. It's not on any of the digital download services. Glad I have my disc copy of it. Great game.
Despite owning all of the Splinter Cell games on disc I'm really tempted to get the splinter cell pack.

Considering getting Napoleon, was playing Shogun 2 a lot recently but i got bored after beating my 3rd campaign. Felt like they streamlined it too much compared to say Medieval 2 or Rome.
Is it worth trying Napoleon or would it just be a step back ?
