Nothing for me, last win was on 10 September.

The oldest bond to win today is from 1957, belonging to someone in Australia. Three other wins in Australia, two to the same person.

    October count.

Friday 01. 21 million bonds AXB to AXV inclusive won 143 prizes, average per million 6.809. Highest AXK 12, lowest AXC, J, O, Q, R all 4 each.

    08. 22 million AXC to AXX, 132, 6.0, AXQ 9, AXG 2.

    15. 22 million AXE to AXZ, 140, 6.364, AXK 13, AXE, F, H, I, N, Y 4 each.

    22. 22 million AXG to AYB 156, 7.091, AXG 13, AXT 3.

    29. 22 million AXH to AYC 141, 6.409, AXL, O, W 10 each, AXY 2.

    109 million bonds won 712 prizes, average per million 6.532. x 52 x €50 = €16,983.20. Divided by 62.5 = €271.73 what €100 K would win in a year with average luck. Using this sample of around 17% of all the bonds. Nearest to 5 x €50.

Nothing for me today. The number of €50 prizes in the November draws is 4,199 up from 4,174 in October.

The newest bond to win a prize on 01 October was AXV 987577. Newest 05 November AYF 615132. Sales of around €60 million.

Guys, not meaning to derail the thread or anything, but after 10 years (and 7757 posts!), I don't understand why some people throw their money away on prize bonds. Is this thread not a perfect illustration of their brutal value?

€3,150 return on 25K (12.6%) over 10 years is terrible 😲. During a period of extremely low inflation, it still managed to erode most of that (€2,070 is wiped out by inflation), leaving growth of just €1080 euro (or 4.3%).

Had you put that 25K in the stock market, even following a pretty dull and low-risk investment approach (such as tracking the S&P 500) would have netted you €70,000 (280%) or €47,000 (188%) approx after tax for a grand sum of €72,000. Subtracting the inflation (and tax), would leave you with €44,930 (180%) in real profits.

And with inflation now starting to explode, prize bonds will actually provide negative returns in the coming years. So are people thinking of taking their money out of them and investing it, or are people happy to let it just stay there (and if so, why)?

It's around €4 billion in Prize Bonds. There is another €150 billion on deposit earning little or no interest. And €16 billion in Credit Unions which got no interest in 2020, and is unlikely to get any this year.

But for some reason on these forums the only ones who get attacked are the poor Prize Bond holders. Why don't you attack those who have abandoned vast sums in dormant accounts? Or those who never cash in lottery winners amounting to many millions?

Here we go again...😭😭. I think its called having the right to choose what we do with our hard earned money.

    Each to their own.

Apologies - I'm not attacking anyone - I'm simply trying to understand it.

Agree with the deposits earning nothing, but I put a lot of that down to laziness or fear. But, for Prize bonds, people have actually gone out and "invested" their money away from the traditional deposit account. So am wondering why they chose Prize Bonds over other types of investment, and has it given them what they expected?

I'm using it as a holding station vs the bank and I've done quite well but will move it on soon. Only alternative I see is the stock market and to me there's not much value to be had and I can see it tanking in the next 24 months once the fed stop pumping in trillions.

Now I do have investments elsewhere and in the market but unwilling to risk it all at the moment.

The Prize Bond thread is one of the more lively on here so that's probably why it gets brought up so often. I'm sure if there was an active credit union/bank deposit thread, you'd see the same concerns raised.

I don't think it gets brought up to "attack" anyone, just to warn investors who might be considering PBs as a longer term investment and who may not be familiar with the concept of real returns/inflation. Most posters here would be trying to help others, I doubt it gets brought up for any other reason. Well done to those who got winnings this week!

The longest term anyone needs to consider is three months.

Nothing for me this week, 3 wins in 2021 €150, I see the €50,000 has gone to the UK and the lucky Greek holder of the ZH series bonds gets another €50 euro this week, that Greek holder in Greece is certainly a very lucky bond holder including bagging the star prize of €50,000 this year, ZH 2 letter bond, I've a few AH series from the 1980s over 30 years old and have won nothing, on the back of old bonds from 30 years ago the address of the old Prize Bond Office in Lower Mount Street Dublin displayed, long moved from there and now down in Fexco Killorglin Co Kerry.

Something is up with the site. Went to buy a few bonds and it threw up errors when being directed to the secure An Post Payment portal.
