I've had a few people share this bullplop lately, accompanied by a photo of a solicitor's letter about collecting a fine for unpaid tolls:

The amount of likes and right-ons this is gathering is truly baffling. You forgot to pay your toll and got fined. Just pay the fúck up. No need to pretend it's a moral crusade. Let's all pick a day to day expense and decide not to pay it while everybody else does. We can all be heroes!

I used to work for the M50 toll crowd. the fines are utterly preposterous but you can get them reduced back down to €3, even €2.50 or €2 just by calling up. The problem with that whole set up is that people who have never or rarely use the road are totally unaware they've gone through the toll until a fine shows up at the door. usually followed by the second fine because it takes the first one so long to get out to the person. It's a shambles of a system. I can understand their anger.

I saw that particular piece of bollocks on my FB page too.

I'm no expert on the M50 or anything, but isn't it privately owned? :D

Having a bit of a friend clear out, don't be offended if you don't make the cut. I've decided I only want to keep really close family and friends.

Buddy of mine who is a bit of a 'Lebowski' posted this about his dog that died recently, he's had him for 16 years and the dog went everywhere with him:
R.I.P. Rubin....... Am sitting over his grave smoking one for him....

Queue the normal replies, 'sorry to hear it man', 'he was a legend of a dog', etc, until his niece posts this:

Totally confused here. But then I only speak English. Even Gogle translate is beaten on this one.
Is there anyone out there who might be fluent in Moron-ese?

Or something like that, the constant flow of retard that I am continuously subjected to on this island is both draining and depressing.

That ****wit is probably old enough to vote.
Let that sink in for a bit.

eh its a brilliant system? and used the world over? should we go back to massive queues on the m50 just to cater to stupid people? its been around long enough now and its extremely well signposted with a variety of ways to pay. theres no excuse.

You should definitely be reading the relevant signs in any case.

It's your responsibility if you don't pay your toll, nobody elses.

For the record, it's actually an awesome system IMO.

Yes, pretty much - it's called responsible driving. But regardless, that's why I posted the links to the TWO photos. It's not just one sign. It is a series of signs, by the side, and overhead. Really, it's impossible to miss unless you drive with your eyes closed.

Really, is there anyone who lives in Ireland who isn't aware of the M50 toll? That's why I asked the 'Are you living in a cave' question. How could you not be aware of it.

But regardless, even if you're not aware of it, and even if you miss the many, many signs, all you have to do is pay the initial charge when the bill comes in the post. The initial charge is fairly modest. There is no excuse.

so let me get this straight..
someones friend puts up an idiotic post on facebook about the toll on the M50.
the post ends up on a thread dedicated to idiotic posts from facebook.
a big debate breaks out from the idiotic post.

    who's the idiots now??

I missed it once, was my first time driving on that side of Dublin heading towards the airport, between keeping an eye out for the turn, trying to listen to my satnav and concentrating on the road I didnt realise had gone through it, I thought it was a toll you slowed down to go through, lesson learned! It's handy alright but yeah I can see why someone might miss it if you'd never driven on the road before.

No, I dont live in a cave, as I initially commented I used to work for the company that operates the toll and that's how I know huge numbers of people , who rarely have any reason to go on the M50, are unaware of it.
If it's handy for YOU, if YOU know all about it, if YOU think it's a great system, that's great for you. The fact is many people are not aware they've gone through a toll and are not aware that fines can be reduced by calling the company, they just get a threatening letter out of the blue and are understandably annoyed by it.
But surprise surprise, the guy from Dublin thinks the whole country should know everything about Dublin otherwise you're an idiot.

Or else maybe huge numbers of people think 'ah sure I'll get away with it' and then try to spin a line about how they've never heard of the M50 toll when they ring up about their fine - take your pick as to which scenario is most likely.

Funny though, when I'm on an unfamiliar road, that is when I'm most attentive to signs. But others were apparently able to read enough road signs to get themselves on and off the M50, but miraculously missed the signs about the toll. Strange that....

The fact is many people are not aware they've gone through a toll and are not aware that fines can be reduced by calling the company, they just get a threatening letter out of the blue and are understandably annoyed by it.
They should be annoyed at themselves for not seeing the large and obvious signs. And even if the first they hear of it is the 'threatening' letter, they should pay it up early, as the initial late penalty fee is modest - €10 I think.
