And I hope 'all the foreign people' don't think we're all as thick as the gobsh1te who posted this on FB

What on earth is wrong with putting down results? It's "less classy" the better they are? Nonsense! People should be proud of their achievements and shouldn't be afraid to celebrate them for fear of hurting the feelings of those who are less successful.

Obviously it's different in a one on one conversation with someone but in a public forum like Facebook I think it's fine.

The worst I seen was around Leaving Cert results time about a year ago.

A guy I know, really sound guy, puts up a status saying "So proud of myself with the results". And I think ah that's great for him. He was never going to get 600 points, if ya get me...
But then some bellend puts up a picture of his results sheet which shows that he did all honours and got a shítload of A's and a few B's and I thought he had some cheek to do that. It's one thing to say ya did well, but to put up a picture of the results ya got (especially when they're significantly better than most people) shows no class in my opinion

That's such an Irish thing: two lads do the exact same thing, one lad does well, one lad not as well. The lad who doesn't do well is a sound guy who should be proud, whereas the lad who does well is a wanker, bragging and thinking he's better than everyone else. People then look for a tangible excuse to begrudge the successful lad (in this case, it's because he put up a PICTURE?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! WHAT AN ABSOLUTE BASTARD!!!! I am literally...SHAKING with anger at the idea of someone having the absolute GALL to post their Leaving Cert results in pictorial form!)

I don't particularly care about most people's exam results (or if they passed their driving test, or how pregnant they are etc) but putting up that kinda self-congratulatory tat is pretty much the exact reason these websites exist: it's a way of letting people who DO care know what's going on in one fell swoop. Nothing wrong with it at all.

    He's 14? And he's "a dicted" to it?

I agree with what the other posters have said - why should the lad who did well have to keep quiet about his achievement? Are you only allowed celebrate your results publically if you're firmly average or below?

Attitudes like this mean that some people who do well academically are made to feel almost ashamed of their good results. I don't think it's being obnoxious or unclassy to announce your achievement on results day. Now, if someone was constantly referring to their LC results in general day to day conversation, then there'd be a problem - but when they've just got them? Fair play to them if they're happy!

Would you consider it to show equal cheek or lack of class if someone posted a photo of an All-Ireland trophy they won with their hurling team, or a medal for gymnastics, or an award for musical ability?

If you get this worked up about a few A's and B's, you must want to throw the telly/radio out the window when you hear people saying they got 7/8/9 A1's :pac:

Everyone who does well in Ireland is a wanker, that's bred into us from birth.

the ".com" is enough to make one not laugh, not cringe, but scream

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Holy mother of God. I mentioned a crazy girl I am friends with on FB on here before. She always puts up weird and inappropriate statuses, but the following is just mental:

"Miss my mommy can't even go out an visit her coz one of my brothers is a sexual abuser fair annoyin lik I love my mom she can't even visit coz she rather spend more time with him family ha funny ****in word"

Yep, that is real. She actually put that on Facebook. Her own sister wrote a comment saying " ur a freak du kno that" and 6 people liked it. I seriously don't have a clue what goes through this girls mind. Why does she think it is appropriate to write these things on her Facebook page?!!

Wish I was making this up

Why the heck anyone would put this up on FB is beyond me

I'm not making fun of her status just a bit taken back by it tbh. Just can't believe someone would put something like that up for the world to see,her profile isn't even on private sure. But the very same one is a massive attention seeker, just ask Freefallin.

Maybe because of the secretive nature of abuse?

Maybe because of the secretive nature of abuse?

Facebook is hardly a suitable place to reveal details of abuse either though?

Maybe because of the secretive nature of abuse?

Abused or not it's not something someone should be putting up on a social networking site.

If she was abused I feel sorry for I really do,but judging by her sisters response to the status ur a freak it comes across to me that she is most likely making it up because she's jealous that the mother is spending time with her brother and not her.

Just want to clarify that I am not really making fun of her status. I think it is terrible if this is true. Really awful and no one deserves it. But I do not think that Facebook is an appropriate place to say something like that because it is such a serious accusation. I just don't understand what goes through this girls head. Her page is crazy because she seems to air absolutely every thought that comes in to her head.

Also, if you saw this girls page you would understand that she is notorious for her inappropriate statuses, this is not the first time I have been shocked by something she has said (though definitely the most shocking thing I have seen on her page, and that is honestly saying something). I am not saying she is making this up either, because how would I know? But it is really hard to believe her when she writes so many crazy things on her page so casually.

Inability to use the English language aside, it's pretty crappy if you have people giving you guff on facebook because you're gay. What type of arseholes would do that?
