Ahhh he wont! Use the oul "im fostering him for a month" trick. It'll take 2 weeks to be totally hooked...and if ye say the home has fallen through, there'll be noooo way he'll turf a tincy tiny kitten out after a month. He'll be head over heels by then!!

    It's only a little white lie :D

In my experience, once you let them know that you understand their decision and offer to help them pack, they become a lot more understanding of how strongly you feel about the fosterling. :)

Tillygirl, my dad said that all the time when we were growing up, we babysat a couple of animals that the owners then decided they didn't want back, so we minded them until they found a home(after a month or so he "forgot" they were temporary visitors).

You could go the foster route and then you could have kittens regularly throughout the year, but they wouldn't be staying ;)

So mad.. I'm just back from the pier where I bring my dog for a run most days. She doesn't bother with anyone down there all she's interested in is chasing sticks. Anyway we were there for about half an hour when the life gaurd came over and asked me to put her on the lead, when I asked him why he said two ladies were coming down with there dogs. I told him my dog was properly socialised and wouldn't bother with the women or the dogs he insisted I put Nala on a lead because their dogs "wouldnt stand a chance" and the women were nervous of my big dog. I got so mad and said it wasn't my problem they hadn't socialised their dogs and I left. Why do some people who have small dogs think its ok not to socialise them just because they're small?

I'm at a wedding and absolutely stuffed to the gills, so I got them to wrap the rest of my beef in tinfoil for the dog. As an apology for leaving him at home! :p

 I would have followed them with my "big dog" lol :pac: We get this a lot too - and he's not even big imo for a retriever!!

Ahaha! I was petsitting my friends mams dog when she got married 2 years ago. I asked for the leftover beef to be wrapped up to go for "the dog", thinking there'd be a lunchbox sized amount. I went home with about 5kg of the stuff. The dog got some...and the mam served the rest to the in-laws for lunch the next day :D

Mini marathon for me tomorrow (strolling it)...really should go to bed soon!

How did the marathon go for everyone?:)
Im quite annoyed at Petmania, I bought the drinkwell fountain roughly 6 months ago for my cats and I went in yesterday to get a replacement filter as the instructions said to change it once a month I think. Id go into Petmania fairly regularly so I know most of the staff, but yesterday they had 3 new people who knew nothing!! The 3 of them all went to each other to find out if they had the filters instead of asking someone who had been working there longer, none of them knew where to look for the things, one of them could barely speak English and the other tried to convince me they didnt sell fountains at all! Then when I pointed them out he said oh they must be new. Hardly since they were there when I did a work placement there 2 years ago!! Eventually after being passed from one person to another,, a senior member of staff came over, informed us they do not stock the filters but she would get onto the catalogue and order them in for us right away. If the first guy we went to just asked her in the first place it would have saved us 20 minutes of hassle but instead they just couldnt admit they didnt have all the answers. Grr! Sorry just needed a rant :)

What's your petmania like stockwise - I find with our one sometimes it looks like they're closing down with the shelves bare!! They never get anything different in either - the same items for the last 3 years!

Had a great day out and raised nearly €200 for a well known dogs charity so pretty chuffed with myself and nowhere near as bad as i thought. Great buzz in town so there was and will definitely do it again ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,412 ✭✭✭toadfly

It went really well. Done it with a good friend so time flew we spent a lot of time talkin! Raised €250 for a local animal rescue so happy with that. Will def do it next yr and hope to improve my time even a little.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,002 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

Tk, I find my Petmania okay enough stock wise, but then again I only go in once a month to get cat food! So Im never looking for anything new, although at the moment Im seeking out a soft cat carrier for longer journies and they didnt appear to have any.

Well done annieboo and TillyGirl, great to see so much money raised :)

Im into my second week of work experience, and there is a cat in at the moment from a rescue, ive fallen completely in love with him!! He is so friendly and cuddly and kissy and I really wanna bring him home and fatten him up, spoil him and get a nice shine on his coat but ive been informed at least 10 times by my mother that I am not to bring him home under any circumstances :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭mymo

You know the weather is really bad when none of the furry family will even look at you, let alone get out of bed.
They were all faking sleep this morning, when I did get them up it was a splash and dash, then back to bed:D

Hey TillyGirl is broody for a cat - put up pics lol!! ;)

What crappy weather this morning!! Luckily we were both kitted out in our rain gear so we stayed dry enough. A little girl passing said "HI DOG!!" to Bailey - a nice change from them running away screaming from him :P

My poor Hershey got stood on today. :( He is limping about the place now. Not whining or anything so keeping him as still as possible and waiting to see if he needs the vet tomorrow. I feel so sorry for him, poor wee mite. :(:( Still a happy waggy puppy though. Worst was when he limped over to his puppy pad lay down beside it and about five mins later went to toilet on it. Must have known it was coming. :(:( I feel a spoiling coming on. :)

Easy know its not raining...dogs got me up at 7am:(
Its Saturday! Why don't they get that?
Didn't see them up the last few days when it was raining!
Had to drag them out of bed

Seb_Bixby, don't spoil him too much, we did that when Oliver was a pup, every time he got stepped on or anything, he'd be limping a bit and get spoiled, never serious, but then he seemed to be limping a lot, we were getting worried and then one day we told him off for stealing food and he lifted his paw and wimpered, then limped off:O
Cheeky little sod had been putting it on! Tried it a few more times and as soon as he got no extra attention he walked fine:D
    They are smart little buggers!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,002 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

I used to have a cat like that, any time he saw my mom he would let out a yowl and start limping in hope of some sympathy and food :D animals are so cheeky!

I am currently sitting in a tattoo studio having needles dragged through my skin, trying to distract myself with boards :D

During the bad rain Charlie would hardly step a foot outside the door, I had to push him out the door with my foot and close the door behind him. I don't even know if he pee'd! He just sat on the door step, then in real determination he just ran to the end of the patio right in the middle of the worst of it, sat down, pulled his ears back and shivered while staring straight in the door with puppy eyes. No walk on Thursday but had to bring him out yesterday just to encourage him to pee.

Last week we were getting 20+ degrees walking the beach in shorts and t shirts, this week torrential rain and the rainjacket back out again. Not to mention earthquakes! End of the world anybody?? :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,021 ✭✭✭✭tk123

God Bailey wasn't bothered with the rain so we were out in it. Luckily I invested in good rain gear for both of us lol so we both stayed dry!

This time of the year sucks, so many kittens on rescue sites on FB :-( I don't think we should get one as we aren't here maybe 2 wknds a month but I REALLY REALLY want one (or two!). No fair!

ZZZZZzzzzzz On a course this week that I'd booked already thru work before I was made redundant... Now I had my doubts as to whether I wanted to stay in IT but decided to give he course a chance and maybe it'd give a spark etc but it just seems to be making me more certain that this isn't who I am anymore! The others seems to live and breathe this stuff (even thou not to be big headed they're not as experienced as me) one practiced at home afterwards - all I wanted to do whole day was get home to my Bailey Boy. My friends in the park keep telling me to work with dogs - I'd love to tbh wage cut or not! :p

Rocky, our male cat, was in foul form this morning. He was howling for ages after I fed him and then I caught him trying to pee in the corner of the bedroom. Chased him away a couple of times but he then peed on my towel in the bathroom and then started running around the house again.
Sure enough, he then peed on the toilet and then I noticed his urine was bloody.
Off to the vet with him - his UTI has struck again.
Poor guy - he's been stressed recently because of a load of other cats hanging around the neighbourhood. :(

Felt bad for shouting at him and chasing him out of the bedroom earlier.

Some kids came to my door hour or so ago with a tiny kitten, 5 weeks would be my guess, their uncle and his girlfriend found her on side of the road in middle of nowhere. Seems very tame, clean and VERY cute.Gotta keep telling myself....no more pets :(
I'm gonna feed her up a bit and find a home in a few weeks... That's my line and I'm sticking to it.

That's exactly the way my boys behave when they have uti's, thankfully the two I have don't get them often. Stress is a big problem, also have you got them on a special food yet?I use one called specific, from the vet, they do a struvite one for crystals and I feed kidney one as my two won't eat the struvite one. It's lows potassium I think, really helps, also feed some wet and raw food, that has helped too.
    Hope he's better soon. :(

Oh the kitten story continues, there's a second one in the dashboard of the couples car, hope they keep that one!
