The poster didn't mention anything about the food being good, in fairness. Usually hen parties are more concerned with booze than food! The Cornstore is just a big place with a full bar. I agree the food is very hit and miss.

True, she didn't mention, but the staff aren't too friendly either. Anyway, given that there are loads of places where everything is good, why go to an iffy place? Electric and boqueria both have full bars, and market lane does beer, wine and cocktails ( at a reasonable price too). Specialist whiskeys are probably all they are missing to be a full bar, and I don't think hens will miss that item. :)

Must say I was in the Cornstore over Christmas and it was great. Not 5 star food, but nice with a great atmosphere and good service.

Uncle Petes on Paul Street is fab, gave it a go over Christmas and have been in there a few times since then. Really tastey food for a reasonable price and a really nice atmosphere, great for people watching too! :P

I was in there on Saturday. The decor is really lovely. The menu is small but adequate for a snack place. On Saturday the menu consisted of wadas, bondas, idilis, dosas and a few more items. His chutneys and sambar are excellent. I didn't try any of the coffess/teas or cakes but I was very tempted.
I'm guessing most people wouldn't have a clue what half the menue is but Iyer is a very friendly guy and was happily explaining the menu.
And if anyone could PM his FB link I'd really appreciate it.

Just ate in Iyers on Friday and would really recommend it, it gets busy at lunchtime but they also do take-away. Can recommend the Madras Thali and the Medhu Vada were most delicious! I found their facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Iyers/131679390322337 for anyone that is looking for it. Great to see a really nice Indian cafe in Cork.

Had lunch in Fresco in the basement of the Glucksman yesterday.
It was really nice - went for the curry, the best that I've had in a while, huge portion and only €10.50.
    Worth a try sometime. http://www.glucksman.org/fresco.html

Thumbs up for iyers from me. Had masala dosa (pancake stuffed with spiced veg) and samosas. Both very tasty. The place was jam packed at lunchtime. Good to see it busy.

+1 for the Glucksman, great value for the high standard of food. Really good. ;)

Grabone are doing a good deal today for The Eastern tandoori on Emmet Place - €26 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 sundries. I know some have said it isn't the greatest, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it any time I have been,

Oh and Living Social are doing a €35 deal for a 4 course meal at Oysters in the Clarion. I've not been yet, but I hear it's good.

I actually went there about 2 years ago and hated it, but about 6 months ago I went as part of a grabone deal and the food was AMAZING!

I also saw the grabone deal earlier and bought it :)
Often with those deals the portion sizes can be pathetic but I was glad to get full portions last time. Can't wait to go again mmmmmmm :pac:

There is actually a lot of restaurants in Cork that have these kinds of deals and I never thought of sharing them here before but it looks like there is plenty of interest so maybe I'll start :)

Is that the curry place by the Opera House? We went there a couple of years ago with our friends from London who are curry monsters like me! :D. The food was VILE!

There was only one other table in there when we went, and the service was very slow. No plain poppadoms, only spiced. And the poppadoms we had were stale

The bill was E150 for four people! Three of us had soft drinks, only my friend had a glass of wine. Even now, my husband still curses about the bill.

I wait until I go home now to get my curry fix. Although I've been reading good things about Iyers on this thread. Might pluck up the courage to give that a whirl...

Yes that is the place, and like I said in my post I found it disgusting a few years ago also but went back purely because of the cheap voucher.

For €26 I'd consider giving it a shot if I were you :) having said that though Bombay Palace on Cook St is still my number one for Indian in Cork but they never seem to do vouchers :(

Have you got a link for that? I looked, but I can't see it.

I hope Faith managed to grab one :)

Sadly, I did not. I read over it though and it seems similar to the early bird menu. Thanks gimmick.

I wonder will they ever change the early bird menu? That living social deal seems to describe the menu a few months ago.

Agreed, it's very nice in there. Love going for lunch there for a treat when I'm around college.

Yeah, thanks Gimmick, just seeing this now.

I looked over it too and thought it was unlikely I'd get to use it at those restricted times so didn't bother! I will try it sometime but would rather not be so limited to a set time.

Yes, eastern tandoori can be a bit greasy, and the staff seem to be arguing with eachother anytime I went. My favourite indian place is the one in bishopstown... Taste of India. Second is the one in douglas in the old garda station. Must try bombay palace though, i've never been there.

A nice Mexican place would defo go down a treat. Loverly food. I used to love going to Cactus Jacks in Dubai have to say for a chain they had great stuff, i ponder what the Dublin one is like.
Is that in JBR? Top notch alright if it's the one I was in.
Cork does badly need another Mexican.
There is an amazing one in Killarney (Casita Mexicana). I'd nearly drive there at this stage!

Yes indeed Iyer's on Pope's Quay is wonderful. Fresh ingredients, simply and authentically cooked. Lunch yesterday was superb. And the man himself so helpful and informative. Nice place, nice guy, great food.:P
Must give that place a go... sounds good.
    It seems not.
I've contacted the administrator who banned him but he hasn't replied and the Mod I contacted couldn't comments on a ban imposed by someone else.

Effing ridiculous that someone can't sign up to respond to a query about their business without being accused of spamming.
    That's boards.ie for ya! It's like Hitler-run Germany.

That place is B'town is gammy. As far as I can see the only worthwhile Indian in Cork in Raj.

Anyone know how that N-Square place across from the Opera House is doing?

Kerry Pike. Its a trek for some (not me gladly) but more than worth it.

Gammy? how so? Even my indian colleagues go there and recommend it. That's the place they always choose for a work night out. The raj is good alright, but too far away from the city.

Not great I'd say, it's getting a bad rep for gone-off fish and steak cooked like a boot.
