Getting a bit brighter after a mostly dull cloudy morning in Waterford. Its calm, temp 8.8c, pressure 1004.1mb. Not good for weather watchers.

Lovely today in central Illinois. Last of the snow melting away now and gushing into the city drains. About 14C, mostly sunny with winds at 25-30mph.

Tonight and tomorrow (Friday) you should see quite a temperature drop and strong west to northwest winds there, Ruu.

I have weather for a change -- at 1755z while out, we had this:

vis 0.5, TSP+ 3/3 19015G23 Cb all quads sun dimly visible

then at 1915z

vis 2.0 SW-- 3/2 19020G30 Cb all quads rainbow sun dimly visible

and now

vis 4.0 RW-- 4/1 1905 Cb overhead N - E and clearing west

cold unstable maritime polar air mass circling around offshore low and funnelling up here from Puget Sound in Washington state hitting the north shore mountains and rising, probably S+ over there (can't see much further than the north end of the town here).

We only get hail or thunder once or twice a year, so it caught everyone's attention. The "hail" was probably a mix of snow pellets, ice pellets, graupel and bird poop (crows are very numerous in this region). Hoping not much of the latter. It was lying 1-2 cms on the ground at about 1830z. Melted in the next half hour. We are eight hours behind GMT here so it's now 1200 noon.

Wet evening. Max was 8.5c today after a min of 3.9c last night.

9mm of rain fell but it was fairly heavy and lasted four to five hours with up to 2mm per hour at times

more rain tomorrow and sunday will bring my rain gauge past 100mm. Its agonisingly at 99mm for February so far
