It looks like more snow showers will push on to the East coast later on and tonight. However the focus is likely to be different in that the heaviest showers could be North of Dublin this time. And these could well be thundery but with temps so cold should be exclusively snow - less hail then last night. So something to look forward to for Easties.

Mushy mix of hail and snow on the ground here still from last night. I think the thaw has given up. Gonna be VERY icy roads tonight!:pac:

This evening for light showers with heavier stuff as the night goes go. It's very hard to say to what extent and how heavy the showers will be but given last nights explosive convection id be fairly confident something similar will occur although futher north then last night looks more likely. Everywhere on the East coast is at risk though.

Snow showers will affect eastern coastal counties from around 6-7pm this evening through to dawn. Organised band of snow will sweep west across Ulster and the NW this evening and overnight giving accumulations of 3-8cm. Showers will spread south across Sligo, Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon, Mayo, Galway, Clare and north Kerry this evening. Some indications that the Midlands may also experience its first snowfall in the early hours of the morning. The HIRLAM models illustrates where the snow is likely to fall. Don't forget to click on Nedbor.

Very icy on the N78 Athy/Kilcullen Rd at Kilmead and around Ballymore Eustace, Hollywood and Brannockstown, Co Kildare. The M9 Waterford/Kilkenny Rd has reopened northbound between Waterford and Mullinavat but conditions are still very icy. MORE

Also, things looking up for the Midlands in terms of snow showers, especially tomorrow afternoon

The hirlam got last night and this morning spot on when looked at yesterday evening.
It's updated on that site at 5pm and again at 11pm tonight.
It's certainly a lot more cheery than the bbc graphics for overnight tonight and met Eireann.

    indeed.
your friend Evelyn was on tv 15 minutes ago and it was a fairly prosaic forecast for most to say the least- bascially there would only be snow in the south east and very north west according to her maps.

Slush readily turning to ice now, not a night to be out driving.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

For all the experts on here, what affect will the low pressure that currently sitting in the english channel have on the south of Ireland? If any.

yep. GEFS showing a breakdown on friday with heavy snow for the country as a front pushes up against the cold air. No indication yet if this will transpire. Having said that, and MT alluded to this earlier, temperatures will remain on the colder than average side of things for some time to come

Starting to cloud over in Navan. We had no clouds at the same time yesterday and woke up with snow...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭Cassidy28

I wonder will we get much more snow in the east over the next few days?

  • Registered Users Posts: 197 ✭✭Xxhaylsxx

How are the roads around navan and meath in general does anyone know?

yes pressure will still be staying high in the atlantic. so what we could see is topplers. what we don't want to see anytime soon is the polar vortex renewed. it's game over if that happens.
