Can anyone explain why my i7 930 overclocked to 4GHz only gets a rating of 7.7:eek:

not too dissapointed tbh considering it was a budget build. i did get lucky with the processor though, it unlocked to a phenom 2 X4 with the juicy L3 cache.

also, there's an SSD in the pipeline somewhere.

    cant wait to see flaccus's.

attachment.php?attachmentid=135121&d=1289948820 I have to say, the performance index's apparent log nature makes me feel pretty good about my 2 year old system :D I think 3D mark or the likes would beg to differ.

I have the same score with a i7 920@380ghz so could be the max from a i7 chip maybe? What you using for a main HD btw?

seconding everyone who wants to see what skittle has under the bonnet =P

if you click on the "view and print detailed performance and system infomation" you get a much better read.

how often does microsoft update the index? it says that its currently limited between 1.0 and 7.9. surely hardware has moved on enough since they first brought that out?
im thinking a pci-e flash REVO drive (version 2 is released, with a read and write speed of nearly 1gbps/800+mbps respectively) will exceed a standard raided SSD system, which should give 7.9?

    Hi all,
Firstly apologies for not given the details of my rig, but here they are now:

CPU: i7 930 OC'd to 4GHz (air cooled with Primatech Megahalem)
    Mobo: Gigabyte x58a-UD7
    GPU: NVidia 480GTX
    HDD1: Crucial C300 128 GB SSD on a Sata III 6GB/sec interface
    HDD2: Samsung F3 1TB
    RAM: 6GB Crucial DDR3 1600MHz
    Audio: Asus Xonar D2X

It's a beast of a machine, but I take my PC gaming seriously:D
    (Oh and I've no mortgage)

    This is mine

Looks like my HD is bringing down the score, I'm guessing its due to lack of partitioning

    Runs great tho :D

Nope, it's simply because it's a HD, you need a SSD to break that barrier. I once managed to score 6.0 with a RAID 1 but that was probably a fluke.

    Here's my two .

I recently added a Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X to my HTPC , so I could play games on it . I'll probably upgrade the CPU at a later stage . It's only got an Athlon 5050e in it at the moment .

    +1

As much as I'd like a 7.7 average my Spinpoint F3s do the job well enough for the moment.

Do you really need an SSD to break the 5.9 barrier ?

I think so. I have 3 x 500GB sata 2 in raid 0 and a basic read test it says around 200mb/s read but still only a 5.9 score. I know there are other factors that make ssd better but an average of 3 times faster read should be reflected in the index

I believe it's an artificial cap. As I said, I once scored 6.0 using two disks in RAID 1 but it might have been a fluke.
