Free cheese! Fcuk me! No wonder Ireland is sometimes laughed at!

    Seriously, think about it.
The country is in a very bad way and one solution they come up with, is to hand out free cheese!

    Crazy schite altogether.

Can I have your share so if you don't want it :)

Folks, spare a thought for Alison O'Riordan. She paid top dollar for a block of Kilmeaden at the height of the boom.

I see people here are knocking the idea... as well as a host of terrible puns. The cheese is from the EU intervention stores, ie purchases of dairy products in order to keep guaranteed prices for farmers. If it wasn't distributed then it would have to be dumped so giving it to the needy is a good idea.

Its funded by the EU, there is no extra cost to the taxpayer because of this. Indeed it might reduce the cost to the taxpayer through reduced storage costs. Don't knock the scheme because its just cheese.

Biggins, you're old enough to know exactly where the cheese has come from, its the same as butter from days gone by. This isn't a solution to the economic woes and isn't intended to even be a gesture towards them. Basically its an announcement that the dept of agriculture is dumping its intervention stores, as I said earlier, possibly to reduce storage costs.

Cheesus, they must have been on crack(ers) when they came up with this plan.

That's fair enough. I'm sure we can understand that - if that's what it is (they should say that).
But what the minister is spinning it as with his announcement, is another thing.
