Yeah, that article is pretty interesting. Sort of hilarious how ~50% of OCZs SSDs failed...

Also, Aerocool have released some pretty damn interesting fans. No decent reviews up yet (SPCR, LiquidLab, etc.) They look promising on paper though.

    They look lovely too!

Couple of interesting reads this morning, this is that french article on component failure rates updated with data up to Oct 2013.

Also some more Mantle data from AMD, no independent benchmark yet though. It does suggest that most will see reasonable improvements unless the GPU is signifigantly underpowered.

Some more Mantle numbers posted by DICE numbers certainly look impressive.

Wow, 58% faster?! But what I don't understand: how where they only getting 78 fps before Mantle with a pair of 290x's? It's only 1080p. That seems low, even with 4x MSAA.

CPU bound systems/games stand to earn a lot from this. It also shows how much juice current systems still have in them (compared to consoles etc).

Agreed, I just didn't think single player would be cpu bound with an i7-3970x at 78 fps. Presumably that means a cpu overclock would give a boost as well.

Not sure on the level/benchmark as to whether or not 78 fps is normal or not, perhaps it is a handpicked section that is particularly demanding CPU . When you think about it though the more frames a GPU(s) can draw the harder the CPU has to work to make all those present() calls, all you can really conclude from that is that 2X R9 290s probably aren't even breaking a sweat while rendering BF4.

Also they say that in DX11 only about 3/4 rendering threads can be optimally handled which is one of the problem Mantle supposedly addresses quite well

This will hopefully be very good for me as now i'm going to have 2 290x's and a 3820 for 3 screens :D. Now I just have to wait for them to arrive :D

When you get a Qnix, and the customs bill comes, how do you pay it? I'm ordering 1 soon and I need to know!

I have this case, and it honestly the most perfect case I could of asked for. Building in it is just such a dream and the separate compartments are so genius!

I only bought a 300r 2 months ago and have my current build in it. Need to put that up for sale too  Lovely case but not the greatest for putting rads in.

Got all my parts today :pac:
... And I just finished the build. oh the excitement and relief when it turns on haha

building this was probably the most terrified I've been in my life, I made an absolute hash of the cpu cooler because the instructions aren't for haswell and I got very confused :o

Everything seems to be okay currently.. bar I was expecting it to be quieter than it is with the Fractal R4 case.

I went and downloaded the latest catalyst Beta drivers for my R9 290 Tri x and fingers crossed it will be working smooth when it test it out in a few minutes.

Genuinely thought I'd ****ed it up about 2 or 3 times :pac:

What programmes should I use for stress testing?

Just used the basic edition of 3D mark 11 and got 11610
I have no idea how good or bad that is though :pac:

The Uniengine ones (Valley and Heaven) are good and free.

But the best way of stress testing is also the most fun, and that actually playing games :)

Have you had a look at your fan profiles?

Have you had a look at your fan profiles?

    How do i do this?
My fans are connected to the fan controller on the front of the case.

Im a bit worried it may be the power supply. Its not the graphics card as ive tested it on all its fan speeds

Just ordered an msi bf4 edt 290x. Should keep me happy until my other one is returned (hopefully :D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Seaaan

    I still think I should get a 290 over a 280x but I don't think I can spend 400 odd on it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Am I Evil?

Just opened up the case there to check everything out.

By my ears I'm near 100% sure that its the front intake fan causing the noise.. Then again I'm not used to desktops anymore and I'm sitting right beside the case so I can't be expecting much :o

Might change them out down the line if i can find better ones. If only I could turn them off to be certain, might plug them out later and see how it sounds
I was also under the assumption that everything you needed for corsair link was included with the PSU, silly me eh

edit - Just removed the front fan quickly there. it's not that anyway :(

Anybody know about setting up a teamspek server? Or how much it is to rent one?

Had a look at the teamspeak faq the other night but was more confused about the payment system after I looked at it!!

Im not looking to set up one for a sever or anything, just be handy to have a private channel when needed for a few friends

Or does anybody know of good alternatives, dont mind a small subscription fee but dont want to spend loads on it

I have a teamspeak server, if you want I can create a private channel for you on that which would be Password Protected? I do it for anyone that asks and as its not for profit I will be increasing my user limit to a few hundred soon.
If not and you want your own I can help you set it up in linux as I have built my own.

I'm fairly certain you can set up your own password protected channel on the gaellords teamspeak
